My nephew was a BMX racer from 4yrs-17yrs old & I can't tell you how many accidents we saw. Thankfully, he was never injured too bad. He finally had to give it up at 17yrs to join the Army.
As someone who has broken several bikes, gotten many scrapes, bruises, and even still have a few scars from riding bikes... the ones that kill me are the faceplants. That must hurt so bad!
In the US, if a bicycle ride hits a vehicle and the bicycle rider is at fault, there are 2 ways that damage to the vehicle can be handled. If the car owner has full coverage auto insurance, then the car owner can file an insurance claim using their own policy either "uninsured motorists" or possibly "comprehensive". The car owner would have to pay their designated deductible to get the damage repaired. Otherwise, if the bicycle rider has the financial means, they can be sued for the cost of the damages. Typically, the damage in a collision like the one shown where the bicyclist hit the rear of the car is minimal and not worth the hassle of getting it repaired, unless the taillight was cracked or broken, but even then, the replacement cost is under $200.
I have fallen off my bike a lot being perfectly sober. The scariest one was when I went super fast down a hill and stupidly slammed my brakes too hard when I realized how fast I was going. Landed on a bunch of rocks and was glad I had a helmet. Also got hit by a car at a cross walk. No injuries but really sore the next day. I also don't ride on the road even though I'm supposed to because frankly getting hit by a car and dying is not a priority. It happens a lot where I live even with bike lanes. Also, if I was the camera person, I would probably make sure they were OK and then laugh lol
My worst bike wreck involved a jump, me falling off the bike mid-air, and then landing on it. The peg of the back wheel pierced the inside of my knee and left part of my meat, for lack of a better word, on it. Sick-looking wound, required 10 stitches and is still quite a scar. Off that topic, does it annoy anyone else when people drop off high surfaces without popping up their front wheel? It's like, you should have known that wheel was going to drop, going head over ass is your own fault. As for the insurance question, unless the car owner has full coverage I guess it's up to the biker or parents to pay for it, depending on age. I could see this turning into a small-claims case.
I've gone flying a time or two over the handlebars as a kid. Lots of bloody road rash. I was lucky and, never broke a bone. I look back at some of the things I did as a kid and, wonder how I survived.😳🤣
The bike making the buzzing noise appears to have something attached to the frame right above the rear wheel -- something which might be a noise maker -- making a buzz relative to the speed of the rear wheel's rotation. The guy who wasn't in the cycle lane seems to have been trying to pass the bus -- which was initially spilling into the cycle lane.
Some of these are funny, but I know a few of these people really got hurt. Still - great video - great reaction. [ back in my day , there were no such thing as helmets, and pads. Many a kid got his skull knocked, or teeth knocked out] 📻🙂
Where I live cyclists have access to the road bike lanes are an option. Also you might note that the bus was already in the cycle lane... Not enough information about the circumstances but I can imagine that the cyclist was getting set up for a right hand turn.
Cannot even say how many times I've seen a group of cyclists riding bunched up when they have a perfectly safe bike lane right next to them with only one or two of the group in it. Talk about 'Share the Road'! And they have the gall to yell obscenities at drivers trying to pass them.
It appears to me a lot of the ones that pitched over the handlebars need to pull back before landing. Motorcycle is the the same if you brake the front wheel hard and your weight is leaning forward, the back wheel comes up and over.
I did jumps on a dirt bike...it took a lot of spills before I could get the timing and height just right to land on the back tire only and then lean to get the front wheel down. These riders need to practice that and they would land a lot of these over the handle bar crashes
Wish I had a video lol but once hit a stick that got lodged in my front tire and I flipped it and landed face first Into the ground. But as I pushed myself up the seat literally hammered my head into pavement causing a concussion and 3 chipped teeth
I once rode my bike through a parking lot at night. Apparently it was 2 separate parking lots with a 2 1/2 foot drop and i didnt realize it until i was flying over my handlebars.
Why wasn't the bicyclist riding in the bicycle lane? Because if he did, he wouldn't be able to ride carelessly in traffic and cause his own accident, and then cry his pretentious little ass off at the vehicle driver.
