Nickelback is a funny case. They usually get a lo of hate cuz "they don't try hard enough" or "if you heard one song of theirs you heard them all" but they have some good songs here and there.

I have basically decided that the hate for them essentially comes down to people don't think for themselves anymore. Most of the people I have met that said Nickelback sucks either have never heard a song or can't name a song they don't like

The hate on Nickelback is basically just a meme. Some people don't like them because basically all of their songs are super radio friendly and just overplayed on all of the rock stations in the US

I absolutely love Nickelback and think they are awesome!!! The songs are catchy and so much fun. They are one of my favorite bands.

Every time I hear this song I get goosebumps. Nickelback is a great band. The hate makes no sense to me but to each their own.

Nickelback, one of my favorite rock bands. I grew up in a mostly hip hop City in Houston, but I am a metal fan. And a lot of people at my old high school, Worthing High, would sometimes ask me why is a black kid listening to rock music.

I have always liked the band like you Kabir why do so many people not like them? This song is great I would hear it on FM radio coming home from work and singing and feeling it.

They are supposedly hated but yet they sell out their concerts. I’ve seen them myself in 2012. The best party concert I’ve ever been to. It’s basically the people who can’t think for themselves that say they don’t like them. If you ask them what songs they don’t like they can’t even answer.

Nickelback is a bad ass band when I met my husband. We both loved this song when my daughter was six months old we went to their concert I mean I freaking love Nickelback.

Chad Kroger basically spent a year breaking down number 1 hit songs and then made this one with all the elements that made a song a number 1 hit before, and it was wildly successful. The song was played everywhere all the time, to the point where I believe there was a time when there wasn't a single minute in in America where the song wasn't being played somewhere

Kinda reminds me of Star Wars prequels. Everyone loved em in the theaters and was cheering like crazy. Then people ripped into the not so great parts and shouted down everyone else

i think how great it is on the first listen is part of why they were derided. it's such a good instant song that you heard it on the radio constantly which leads to a backlash. just my theory. at the time i never got bored of it but some did i think.

Here's a Nickelback adjacent song for you: "Into the Night" by Santana and Chad Kroeger(Nickelback singer) Everyone hates on Nickelback but I KNOW everyone still sings along with the songs. It's the definition of weird guilty pleasure.

I could be wrong, but I think the part of the song "Are we having fun yet? Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, no no". Makes more sence if it is "Are we having fun yet? Yet, Yet, Yet, No, No." They definatly have a certain sound, I wonder if here is an effect on his voice, but I like it and when it come up on the raidio when I'm driving I'll turn it up. "Rock star" is another that comes up on the radio often.

You've definitely heard this song at some point in your life but probably just didn't know it, guarantee it. Granted plenty of songs from the US don't break out beyond North America but I looked it up and it went double platinum in the UK and was a top 10-20 song in most of Europe.

Between around 2001-2008 nickel back was legit. IMO I think their lyrics were a blessing and a curse. But since then they’ve become a meme and more of a guilty pleasure listen.

My childhood was the early/mid 2000's, so this song was always in my head lol. I can't say I'm a fan of them but they sound good.

My mom would play Nickelback non stop when I was little, so they're pretty much my childhood. I was super confused when I found out a band that I loved so much was hated by pretty much everybody

Basically there was a year where at least 1 station was playing nickelback at any given second of any given day for that whole year. Since this was pre-spotify and people had to turn off the radio just to not hear the band (and when you hear the same song over 300 times, I don't care how great it is, it will start grating on your nerves) a comedian got really sick of them and made a joke about how horrific the band was on national television. The segment with the joke then was used to promote the show so it often played in commercials over a network of channels on tv all over the country promoting said comedy show while also promoting that comedian saying you should hate Nickelback. This made it very popular to hate Nickelback, which internet picked up as a meme. And then you started getting bandwagon haters, who hate things just because everyone else seems to hate them. The sheep mentality. Two years later and suddenly everybody and their mama hates Nickelback for no particular reason besides the fact that it's trendy or a meme. Then you start getting really really heavy haters who will find any reason to hate something and so memes turned into basically posts on why you should hate Nickelback. And now many years later it is just a fact that general internet person knows that there is a band called Nickelback and they should hate it for some reason because everyone does even if they never heard a single song from them. No big reason for universal hatred, just a tidal wave of group mentality.

Canadian band makes it big in the States, Americans hate that. Ahh, muffin.

It’s because so many people (“haters”) cover all their insecurities by ripping on anyone they can…. It makes they feel better (subconsciously) by comparison. And yeah, it’s sad and pathetic and it’s the world we live in. And yes, I’m sure there will be comments in the area of “sounds like you’re hating on the haters, so doesn’t that put you in the same category?” That’s cool. I don’t mind beating up bullies.

I think the basic reason of the haters is the same basic human instinct. JEALOUSY Their songs were played on the radio alot and as I remember...all of the sudden the hate started going around. Stupid! I always loved their songs. 🤷‍♀️♥️

I never really understood the hate either but....I was on a trip in Canada in the summer of 2001 and literally this song was on every radio station 24/7. Couldn't get away from it lol. I think being overplayed on the radio like that soured some people to the band.

I understand the hate even though I disagree. Some teenage-to-early-20's boys measure their self worth by how "cool" their music is. I guess Nickelback was considered too commercial. I was one of those boys--I only listened to the "cool" Progressive Rock radio station and the "cool" bands. I grew out of it and now listen to whatever sounds good to me.

"Might" is the keyword, because I've recently gotten into Gacharic Spin and Doll$Boxx, two equally amazing all-female rock/metal bands from Japan. (Well, really one and a side project. [Gacharic Spin's original frontwoman left for health reasons shortly before a 2012 French tour, so they had a rotating cast of frontwomen on tour, one of who was Fuki {from Unlucky Morpheus and Fuki Commune, and former frontwoman of Light Bringer}. Well, as Light Bringer and Gacharic Spin were slowing down touring, Gacharic Spin and Fuki decided to do an album together.]) Check out Take My Chance and Dragonet by Doll$Boxx (especially the live version of Dragonet with a drum solo afterwards), and MindSet, I Wish I, and the Fantasy Medley by Gacharic Spin (definitely check out Doll$Boxx before checking out I Wish I, though). (I recommend the Fantasy Melody because, yes, it is good, but mainly because their lead guitarist, TOMO-ZO, sings leads for most of that one, and I kinda have a crush on her....)

Also, Nickleback had a lot of Radio-safe songs, while other rock bands at the time had to be bleeped or wouldn't be played. regulations for music on the radio were very different then. So, they ended up being way overplayed. I remember when I was a teen, this song would be on at least three stations, at any given time easy.

They're hated because it's the "cool" thing to do. We're a bunch of followers....ick. He has an amazing voice, they have some great songs and they sell out their concerts.

Most people 'hate' on Nickelback because almost all their songs Sound similar and they are 'overplayed' on rock stations. They don't change it up that often. But I personally like every Nickelback song I've heard and its kind of a huge meme at this point about them too.

Nickelback tried for years to get a record label. The lead singer worked in a fast-food place. Eventually, they self-pub;ished and became just huge. They rock. Their lyrics are cool. Musicianship solid. Voice awesome. I never got it either.

Super random for this vid but Seattle-Portland played in MLS yesterday and the final score was 6-2. Absolute BANGERS and would recommend the highlights 👍 Love the vids as always and personally, Nickelback gets made fun of because their particular style seems to have aged poorly.

I loved their songs then all of a sudden they were just gone. I figured they made their money and bought an island somewhere. It's what I would do!! "Got mine. Go get your own"

Some of their non-radio songs are, apparently, offensive, and lead singer Chad Kroeger has, apparently, done some uh...rather inappropriate frat boy antics (he claims he paid a guy to stick his "junk" in a steel blade fan, and a few moments later "heard a blood curdling scream, it was awesome!") And I listened to a live performance of theirs once, and either Chad was drunk or he's very much a studio effect voice, but that's from a very limited viewing, I can't say whether or not that's consistent.

I don't get it either unless the naysayers were jealous of it's popularity. It rocks hard. The video is great. The haters just made more people check it out. Always loved this song. Thanks.

It became cool to hate them, people called them sell outs and they made radio rock so they compromised and couldn't be taken seriously. I never got it at the time and I still don't. I loved them and saw them live in Dublin back in the day, when they toured this album and it was a fantastic show !

There is a little more to this story than being overplayed. Chad Kroeger can come off as an ass sometimes. Corey Taylor (Slipknot) and Kroeger got into a war of words about songwriting and label push. Both are on the same label. It's out there to find. The metal scene in the U.S. can be devisive. Slipknot, Metallica, Megadeth fans generally shy away from listening to the more pop driven metal sound. Personally I don't care. Bon Jovi went through this backlash as well in the early 90s. They turned out alright.

Only uncultured people who want to be with the Meme crowd hate on Nickelback songs and the band itself. I feel the hate they got was they were more commercial friendly than most other rock bands of their time so they got a ton of radio play and were a bit overplayed there. Ive always liked their songs, Photograph is another good one and most recently they did a cover of The Devil went down to Georgia which is actually heavier metal than most of their other stuff.

Nickelback isn't in my circle of what I would normally listen to. But, I am familiar with the "hate." I think, at this point, it's kind of been memed to death. Like other commentors have said, they're kind of overplayed on radio and overly "pop-y", and they have a reputation as every song sounding the same (kind of like Taylor Swift's and all her songs being break up songs about her ex's)

Ima be honest the hate for Nickelback ain't even serious half the time. It just became cool to hate and now the ppl who did hate don't want to change lol. It's like when John cena gets booed nowadays. Don't take it serious. They're a good band who's made some great hits and well they're lead guy Chad Kroger is a fucking guy who doesn't give a fuck lol. They have a funny video where they responded to a petition against them for playing the nfl Detroit lions Thanksgiving game back in like 2011 lol. These dudes love the hate. I think the dumbest thing is actual musicians in the rock genre like them and their music. I definitely recommend coin for the ferryman or burn it to the ground which are definitely a lot harder than what they usually do but its good.
