I appreciate my parents so much for driving me up to 5 hours for hockey games. As a kid you think you are just going to a game but what we don’t realize until we are older is the fuel cost and the time they take off work to let us play the game we love. Wish I could’ve went further in my career to give them back half of what they gave me.

The last part with St-Louis, he's from my province in Canada (Quebec) he recently did an interview in French about this. Basically, when he learned of his mother's death he took a direct plane to see his family to mourn and asked his dad what he should do (the rangers were in the middle of playoffs) and his fathers replied to him: she would have wanted you to play so go play hockey. I cried so much during that interview

I remember back in the 90’s, American television started broadcasting regular season and playoff hockey. What caught many new American fans off guard in the playoffs was what took place at the end of the series. No matter how nasty, hard hitting and tempestuous the series was, the opponents always line up and shake hands. It’s the Canadian thing to do.
@sab4336

@Trade Bum Simmons BTW none of what you called American Sports were invented in the USA. Baseball:England, Football:Canada, Basketball:Canada. Sorry
@jordanpotasky4915

@Trade Bum Simmons not true, I don't see MLB teams lining up and shaking hands at the end of a series, nor does it happen in the NBA.

And then they pan over to Bourque's son who is crying. I totally lost it lol. Getting teary eyed just typing it lol. IMO Hockey is the most emotional sport in existence.

@@katharrell3737 as a hockey player myself, skating becomes second nature just like riding a bike. Now 21 yrs old, only played in minor leagues but I was always considered the ''better skater'' and I've yet to figure out how skating came to me so naturally. All this to say, guys like crosby or mcdavid (like other legends across all sports) just seem to have been given the gift of knowing how to master something, but where the real credit they deserve comes from them capitalizing / making the most of the opportunities made possible for them by this ''mastery gift'' if you will.

I'm sure most people missed this, but when the video *showed is of fighting. it didn't *say* "The beauty or ---" write it or say it here. The NHL Commissioner changed the rules in that fights are not legal or some other variation. I call it just like the "Fight Club". The first rule of the Fight Club is there isn't any Fight Club.

Kabir is Nigerian and British, so he's well versed in soccer. Off the ball movement is super important there too. I'm a Man U fan and remember, fondly, lots of goals by guys like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dimitar Berbatov where their chances and goals frequently came as a result of what they did without the ball.

We fans in the Seattle area are ready to cheer for the Seattle Kraken! Since the Seattle Metropolitans won the Stanley Cup in 1918 becoming the first American team to win it, we have had over 100 years of great minor league and Major Junior hockey. It just goes without saying but all of the sports that we love possess a beauty and artistry that only the truly initiated can appreciate. It takes a brilliantly produced video like this one that so clearly demonstrates the beautiful skills and abilities that these players posses. As a casual hockey fan, it made me feel like I really didn't know a damn thing about this exquisite game. When played at its highest level, it equals in creativity, finesse, artistry, style, energy, courage, toughness and intensity, any game I've ever seen played. I admit that I have a whole new respect for this game and the warriors who play it. That is something I definitely did not expect when I got here today. Well done Kabir and neutralzoneHD!!! My fave part of that Martin St.Loius story was that Syd Crosby found him before the game to give condolences for his loss. Hockey players are all teammates on some level. Even right after punching each others faces in, they usually tap each other out of respect.

I played hockey as a kid, We never froze our puck, the weather and rink did that for us. Our biggest problems with pucks was that they chipped to smithereens after a while. The game is so fast you _have_ to be a quick thinker to play it well, and your body _must_ use oxygen efficiently or you just can't keep up with the skating, it is so fast. Quickness and speed describe the game quite well, and tremendous athletic ability. The guys who can stick handle are like wizards to watch. One of the best I ever saw was Jaromir Jagr of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He seemed capable of turning guys inside out and embarrassing them as if it was nothing.

hockey is such a fun sport to watch and I really enjoy it. I hope for the future of the sport that it becomes more diverse and inclusive, there's been some pushes to make it more accessible for BIPOC and LGBT players, there's been a lot of charity work and organizations funded by NHL teams pushing to include children that may not be able to afford all of the equipment, which present a huge financial and time barrier entry for kids interested in the sport. like most professional sports there's still a ways to go for more inclusion. I think there is finally an openly gay NHL player as of this year, Luke Prokop. PK and Malcolm Subban, who are brothers, are two incredible black NHL players that have gained a lot of positive attention in recent years, just as examples. I became a big Blackhawks fan back in 2010 when they were on the path to the Stanley cup and hockey is still my absolute favorite sport to watch, even if the Blackhawks now consistently break my heart every year instead of smashing records like they used to lol.

Hockey is all of those things. Back when I had season tickets and went to two or three home games a week, it fed my soul. I can't explain it but when I was there I wasn't a wife, a mother or cook and bottle washer for a family saying and doing all the correct things...I was a screaming, cussing, cheering and booing other person who fed on the beauty. I used to record the games at home so I could watch them in slow motion the next day! Gorgeous, graceful, vicious, brave, angry warriors who would sacrifice their bodies for that win. When we got Gretsky it was such a thrill! You can't explain a love of hockey, you just can't. It has to be experienced before a person can wrap their brains around it. It's visceral and desperately grasping for the heroes to make that goal, or stop it. I believe it saved my sanity! How great it is that you, Kabir, were able to grasp it. It truly is a beautiful game! I can't wait for you to experience it in person, you're made for it!

The NHL players are on average, the lowest paid athletes among the four major North American sports Leagues Hockey isn't my favorite sport. But It's Top 3. My 2nd favorite team sport. I love the blue collar nature of the sport and attitude of most the players.

Until you react to Wayne Gretzky, you haven't experienced the best of hockey. He's the Great One for a reason. Number 99 was retired League-wide when he stopped playing.

Several hockey players have been credited with telling the trainer to "just put them in milk until the game is over" when they get a tooth knocked out 😆

1) The guy at the beginning answering the question "is hockey hard?" is Hall-of-Famer Brendan Shanahan. Perhaps they should have asked a marginal player? Shanahan does have the unusual distinction of being highly ranked on the career lists for both scoring and penalty minutes (one cannot score from the penalty box). 2) FYI: There is a Netflix documentary called "Untold: Crime and Penalties" about a minor league hockey team owned by a mobbed-up guy who also owns a "waste management" (rubbish disposal) company. The team's mascot was the "Trashers." The minor leagues are where most of the fighters usually play, and this team set a record for penalty minutes, plus the owner was arrested for punching an official. 3) It is often said that the Stanley Cup is unusual in that there is just one version of the trophy, which the winning team is loaned after they win. Most sports champions receive a copy of the trophy and get to keep it forever. But I don't know how widely known it is that there are actually three Stanley Cups: the original bowl of the "Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup," donated by Lord Stanley in 1892, and loaned to the winner until 1969; the "Presentation Cup," now loaned to the winner, created to prevent any further damage to the original; and the spelling-corrected "Permanent Cup" on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
