It is an amazing piece of engineering. All those moving parts and to think that it will often last beyond the life of the actual car, apart from a few clutch changes...really fascinating. Great vid fella 🙂👍
Nice teardown video.👍 You can see why people don't mend gearboxes and just put second hand units in, and this is about as simple as gearboxes are. It's a good job it wasn't a 10 speed ZF gearbox as you would need four tables for all the bits and the video would have been about 3 hours long! 😄
Great point! & a good 2nd hand one is the way to go, much like the engine a factory built unit over a recon all day long,Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Awesome video Anton, now if you could only do part 2 in replacing the broken bits and putting back together. My P107 struggles going from 1st to 2nd, so at least now I know what's kinda happening :).. Love ya vids, learn so much from you about this little trio of cars and upgrades ya do xoxo
Thanks Mel, unfortunately this one wont be going back together, a good 2nd hand one is always the way to go, have you replaced the gearbox oil? might help with the stiff gears, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 Yeah, it was more of a hope as I wanted to learn about gearboxes and fix also if req. I haven't yet changed the oil, was thinking of trying it but now you also mentioned it am defo going todo it. Also as it now has just gone over the 60K mark and is probably the original oil no doubt. Am just being soft, its cold I don't have a garage. I will post on ere if it helps as others might have similar issue :).
Hi anton, any books, websites, or another material you can recommend me so I can get more clued up with gearboxes, how they work? How they are designed and made? How to repair them,? Of course I’m watching your videos which are very very comprehensive. Thankyou.
Just had the water pump replaced on my Aygo, as I assumed it was the root of the problem. Turns out it's not, but at least I've got a new one now as I'm at 60,000 miles. The issue: at 30MPH in 3rd, I get a kind of hollow sounding whining noise. Surely it can't be my gearbox? It goes away in neutral when I build the revs? It goes away slightly when it's been driven around for a bit? EDIT - just added a video to my channel, better with headphones! My gearbox doesn't have that rubber bung for the air, could that be the noise source?
It does sound a bit like the gearbox, but it's really hard to hear, turn the radio up!! replace the gearbox oil don't worry too much plenty of life left in that one Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Definitely an interesting video to see how the gearbox works! Could do with a little advice - my citybug really dislikes changing into 1st gear (when stopped, or when doing under 10mph) until it's been driven about a mile... after that point (even after being parked up for an hour, so the car isn't hot by any means) on the return journey changing into 1st gear is as smooth as anything. Any idea what could be causing that, please?

Hi Ant. If a centre stop lamp is not working at all , but both side stop lamps are working. Is this an mot failure. Would the answer be different if centre stop lamp is led or non led. Thanks for the video
If you removed the centre stop lamp or covered it over it is not an mot fail, if it is there and not working its a fail, daft I know, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
