Thank you for the recommendations. I am a Westerner and I feel comfortable in recommending "Kokoro" by Natsume Sōseki. It is the only Japanese novel I have read thus far but I really enjoyed it.

Hi friend, thank you so much for watching the video. I just checked out "Kokoro" on Amazon. It has great reviews and a story line. I will definitely get it from the local library

Yes I too enjoyed Kokoro however as a cat lover my all time favourite has to be “I am a Cat” which is a masterpiece in my opinion😻

I read it a long time ago. It was my first Haruki Murakami novel. I remember it being a massive book and really enjoyed it.

“Convenience Store Woman” was also one of those books that really made me stop and think about how we were all conditioned by culture and society around us to think and behave in certain ways. And how we decide what is “normal “ and what is not, which in turn influences how we treat people who we as a society think do not fit into that “normal “category. Thought provoking, and extremely honest book in my humble opinion. Perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea ( it was my book club’s choice and most did not like it!🤔🫣) but it does address some important issues in our society. Thank you for your informative review 👍

Thank you for watching the video, friend. I completely agree with you. Convenience Store Woman is the most thought-provoking of the books included in the list. I really enjoyed it. It really does indeed ask what "normal is" . I'm in the process of reading The Poisonwood Bible which is based in the 50s Congo. The question of normality, although it wasn't the centre theme of the book, has been asked a few times. This is seen through the lens of Congolese people living in a village in the jungle. Their perception of normality was vastly different to ours.
