Teddy, I adore that you're on the path to StayTiny. It does my heart good. They really are incredible. The live performances of this song that San has broken multiple microphones because he goes so hard on the dance (9:47). As you get deeper into Kingdom, you'll want to catch some of their other tracks because, like SKZ, they reinterpreted them for the show much as they did for Wonderland's version. Re their lore, yeah, deep like a hole through the earth, featuring members as time traveling space pirates trying to restore world order and keep their friendships and group intact. Nearly everything in videos has a purpose, like the red and blue colors you saw here are echoed in their other tracks, Deja Vu, Utopia, and most recently Paradigm. AND they're having a comeback on the 30th with Halazia, which should have some good Hala Hala references. You definitely don't need to follow the lore to enjoy their stuff, but if you did decide to go down that rabbit hole, the hair pulling and overthinking would be fab. Thanks for your reaction! In an industry where face time means a lot-doing this MV in masks just a few months into their career was a huge risk. This dance is regarded as one of the hardest in Kpop. Your reaction to music fits well within their lore. This song has some of the best beat drops. I love the contrasts between the softer parts and the hard driving parts.

It was the perfect time for you to get to know Hala Hala because their new single that comes out in two days has the same tagline - "hearts awakened live alive" and will probably be closely related to that part of their storyline. There's quite a lot to tell about this song and its place in their discography. Their debut was a double title track, Pirate King and Treasure, and Say My Name was their first comeback barely three months later. They were the first MVs that introduced the actual story - we could see our Ateez and opposite them guys identical to them but looking really scary, and everyone assumed that Halateez (as we called them) are enemies or their dark sides. It took quite a long time and several more MVs for us to find out they might be allies and even longer to find out for sure who they are and where they come from, which is a dark, dystopian dimension where emotions and art are banned and where Halateez are rebels fighting the oppressive government forces. That's where the colours come from - the monochrome of the reality and the red of the fight, rebellion, anarchy (like in Wonderland and Guerrilla), plus blue which might or might not stand for our, less aggressive version of Ateez. If you keep watching the Kingdom stages, they all feature Halateez. In real life, Ateez were still kids when they released Say My Name and Hala Hala, and Hala Hala broke so many unspoken kpop rules (and brought down some unpleasant comments on them back then, even within the industry, from music show PDs and such). They weren't trying to be pretty or sexy or cool or cute, they were completely covered, relying on the strength of the performance itself in the MV, and on stage they were so theatrical, so deep in character as scary, creepy guys, that three of them were called the Demon Line. They were krumping, almost convulsing, San would regularly break microphones at the end of the song. They still get so much hate for it from kpop fans who don't like their style. I hope you'll get to watch a live performance of Hala Hala, preferably their first music show stage, because it was the literal cultural reset for kpop, and a recent live performance because they've gotten even more powerful since then, and venues literally shake when Mingi raps.

Their storyline is big, so big that their captain (leader), Hongjoong has said that only 1/3 of the story has been revealed. So let's see what Halazia reveals.

The reason seeing all the members with and without masks is significant is because in their storyline Ateez are pirates who can travel between timelines and dimensions, so the Ateez wearing masks and hats are an alternate version of Ateez from another timeline/dimension that fans call Halateez. They actually have an official name, but I forget. And the ones with no hats and masks are Ateez themselves, but then they put on masks as well and in the video it looks like there are two sets of Ateez dancing, or 16 in all. In one part Hongjoong even walk around himself to start rapping. In the storyline Halateez sometimes join Ateez to fight their enemies. They always have the hats and the masks. Their new song that drops tomorrow seems to also involve Halateez.

It's probably that one that got me into ATEEZ. This performance video is bold and awesome, the way they did not relied on their looks, hidden under masks and thick outfits, was significant to me, who was a bit annoyed by the "glamorous" part of Kpop (now I'm more used to it, at least for some groups). And the sound of the chorus was just mindblowing. But if you like dance too, I recommend to watch a live performance without the masks, 'cause in this choreo they use crazy facial expressions, that add a lot to the performance in my opinion. (Still, it's the right order : this masked performance first !)

Honestly Ateez has zero skips in their ENTIRE discography. There is something for everyone with ateez an that’s one of the reasons why I love them, honestly even their bsides are banger’s please do an album listening party or something you will not regret it. They are having a comeback very soon and are coming back to the uk in February!!!
