Hi folks, NatNomad here. An ex-Buddhist monk from Laos with a big dream of seeing the world. Throughout my time for over 10 years being a monk I kept asking myself this one question "What life is like out there beyond the monastery?" And because of this question alone made me take a big step in 2014 when I finally say goodbye to my wonderful monastic life.
And now I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. Though I am not quite sure if I can say that I'm living my dream but you know what I'm loving my new adventure.
Please make sure to stick with me so we can explore new exotic places together.
Let the adventures begin!
Thanks so much for your support.

As a Thai born by immigrated Vietnamese mom, with respectful of your resilient mother's ritual practice that is like my mom's daily life to live and heal herself as minimum as her body needs. Glad to find your channel and my attention is to go and support some poor Indo-china ppl there.

It is pretty fascinating to see this old practice still alive in most parts of Laos, especially in rural areas. But it is dying fast as many people are abandoning it.

Your nephew is so adorable! 😍 Thanks for showing us your family's village. It's so sad to see so much struggle with the water shortage. I hope it will get better soon. 🙏 ❤ Safe travels, Nat. I am looking forward to your next adventure.

Thank you always. They're building it, and it may take a few years as they have to bring in water from the stream very far away from the village.

This village life gets me, Nat! The simplicity, the quiet, I love it! But I feel you on the heat and matched with the meager water supply, 🥵 Stay hydrated and safe bro! Your family too, especially the cute baby boy 😁

You are a sweet son Nat. Your mom is lucky to have you visit. Is it her tradition to have her own house? I didn’t know cassava can last that long in open air, good to know. This video is very humbling. Thanks again Nat.
@natnomad
@natnomad 4 месяца назад
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, it is her tradition to have her own place because she has the spirit altar in the house. Meaning she's taking care and feeding her ancestors spirit and it has to be like that for the rest of her life. Twice a year she'll make an offering (sacrifice ritual) for her ancestors. Let's say if she were to move into the main house she can't bring in the altar because my brother in law already has his own altar inside. So two can't be together. She will be the last in our family to hold this tradition.

Just worried if heavy rains come to your mother place? The roof looks fragile? Please re-roof if you can. At present very high heat at Burma Thailand etc. I cannot survive at above 35C

The house isn't meant to be permanent. It is strong enough, she's been living there for 6 years already. But within a few years time it has to be rebuilt, and probably make a higher roof and more strong.

Hi Nat, can I hire you as a local guide in Luang Prabang? I will, of course, pay.
@natnomad
@natnomad 4 месяца назад
Hi, unfortunately, without the license, I won't be allowed to take the tour. I have actually waited for two years to apply for two months incentive training in the capital to become a certified guide, only to realize that I am not qualified to apply given my level of education background. But thank you for your interest. I am flattered🙂

If you don’t mind telling, what’s the language you just spoke to your mom? It’s not Lao to me. It’s very interesting, you seem to know more than two languages.
@natnomad

We speak Khmu to each other. That's our mother tongue. I speak only three languages, Khmu, Lao, and English. I'm not sure if I should include Thai because it is so similar to Lao😊

Aw... thank you for the compliment about my English. I'm flattered. I'm 100% Lao. I studied my English in the temple and where I lived as a monk for 10 years. I was very lucky for the opportunity.

In your mum's village is there a school and is education free in Laos? With shortest of water supply why is it people are moving into your mum's village?
@natnomad
@natnomad 2 месяца назад
There are schools in my mom's village, just not free. Actually, this is the most developed area within Luang Prabang province, after Luang Prabang town. Only the water is the problem, but they're working on it. By the end of 2025, they should be able to have water supply
