🇬🇧 I hope you enjoyed the legendary Juarez! Just a quick note (a few people have messaged me about it), yes I am aware of the 2019 Walmart shooting in El Paso - there is a brief mention of it in the El Paso video (next video). Sorry my battery died! Did you catch the list of past Mexico locations mentioned in the video? Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl, Chimalhuacan, Torreon, Culiacan, Mazatlan, Toluca, Durango, Chihuahua, Ciudad Cuauhtemoc! This is final season David!
I went to Ciudad Juarez a couple of weeks ago I go atleast every couple of months I don't live to far from Ciudad Juarez it is a 4 hour drive I live in new Mexico. Every time I go I don't have any problems but I don't look for it either. I go to the restaurants and have my food and beers. Have a great time. I am originally from chihuahua
David I want a day ask you when you crossed into Juarez from El Paso did the Mexican authorities asked to see your passport this time or did they not seem to care and just let it you walk in without even really paying attention to you? I ask because in the past he used to be that I could just walk in in the Mexican side of the border could care less it was more the American side and wanted to make sure you had your papers in order. And I want to make sure that's the way it still is because I'm planning to go back to Mexico here in a little while and I wanted to make sure I could still walk in to Mexico because I don't have a passport I only have my birth certificate and ID and I wanted to make sure the borders were still open in Mexico and they weren't checking for a passport
I went a year ago I’ve been to El Paso a few times & I went across the boarder I went as far as eclipse if you know you know how far that is from the boarder & I must say it was extremely interesting going that far I was at the applesbees casino pretty much across the highway but I love it over there can’t wait to go back
But walking around I’ve gotten a lot of little old even got asked what was I doing over there because I ended up getting lost leaving eclipse didn’t realize how much danger I was in lol but I made it back lol
I am from Juarez, living in Budapest for almost 2 years now. I will never stop missing my town, the food and the people are amazing. Thank you for portraying Juarez as it really is. 🥰
You're welcome Flor! Budapest! Cool! I have some Mexican friends in Prague and Krakow. I'll be in Belgrade in a couple of months, I finally hope to come to Budapest at some point (I was meant to for my birthday in 2020, but the pandemic changed my plans!). I am also a Polish national as well as British and I'm planning to move to Poland long-term, so I'm glad Budapest will be on my doorstep.
Oh what a small world. I grew up in between Juarez and El Paso but fell in love with Croatia and want to move there someday. Hungary is just North of it.
You are about the only RU-vidr visiting Mexico that enjoys the kind of graceless and sometimes maybe ugly urban landscape of the cities in Northern Mexico but when it comes to urban people warmth is the same as any magic town of Central or Southern Mexico. You present a more complete picture of what Mexico is, not just the pretty little old colonial towns, great video David
Gracias Francisco! An ugly urban landscape is where I grew up, after all these years of colonial towns, I think the reason I like the north is that it's more 'me' and a taste of home!
Your timing was perfect on this they just repainted the x during the pandemic I remember looking up and seeing it white and thinking they covered it with some sort of white powdery substance, LOL but that was just the primer and then they repainted it a better red! 🇲🇽 Viva Mexico cabrones! 🫕
I'm too scared no thanks lol the cartel is still very strong there, they run it, corruption. Two cartels run it, police corruption, hell if you get pulled over at a check point there is always a chance you'll be asked for some momey , always have extra cash just in case. The Cartel is smart, but younwill see them there if you know how to spot them etc etc Your brave lol We know people who live there, work a nd guard. They told not to visit, it's not safe. Too bad cause it is beautiful. Ignorance can be bliss though 🙏
I live in El Paso, Texas... But I go to Juarez frequently. The downtown there, is actually more vibrant, interesting and modern than El Paso's. I have never experienced problems either when living there or visiting. I did live in several neighborhoods - colonias, fraccionamentos, etc. And during the supposed " worst years." 2009- 2015. As a woman, I actually get better respect on the rutas , better customer service in restaurants and stores, than here. In El Paso people will not give up seats to elderly or disabled bus passengers and the drivers won't intervene - older women in their 60's can have disrespectful comments hurled at them - in Mexico, - never. If it wasn't for issues of my health insurance I would still live there! Also, even many well- to- do Americans go to Juarez for dental and medical treatments - they are affordable, professional, and efficient.
Annette your local info is invaluable! It's funny, there was a bit I cut out of this about dental treatment, a friend of mine in San Diego does exactly that in Tijuana! Interesting point about manners etc, it's just like where I'm from, same issues with people not giving up seats etc, for heavily pregnant women too. In Mexico I've never seen that being an issue. I'm editing the El Paso video as we speak!
I'm thinking about relocating to El Paso in a year or two. Any suggestion which part of El Paso is good to buy a house or where to stay away from? Much appreciated!
@@LuanNguyen-1548 I live in Juarez, but have in known much of El Paso. So here some ideas. In general terms El Paso is a very safe city, it might clasiffied in 4 areas… East, many natives people from El Paso and Mexicans; North, I believe mostly US citizens; West divided between Mexicans and US citizens, and Central part, mostly natives and Mexicans. From what I know, all of it is ok. Downtown and Center part is Indira of Old. In the Border of El Paso and New Mexico, yo might find more natives Than elsewhere.
This is awesome! I just came back from Juarez yesterday… stayed a few weeks. I really love Juarez although a decade ago things were quite different, now it has such a charm. Juarez is the first place in Mexico I ever visited 13 years ago and I still come back 3 times a year to visit my good friends. This time I flew in El Paso and crossed the border by foot. I LOVE JUAREZ ❤️💕💕THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS DAVID! PS I was at the Walmart Cielo vista 30 min prior to the shootings , visited the shrine few months after yet just a few days ago… Walmart Cielo vista was back to normal 💕💕EL PASO STRONG 💕💕PSS I’m not Mexican but I loved what you said about Mexican having such an impact on the world and YES Mexicans are not what US media portray them to be…Mexicans are beautiful kind hearted intelligent people💕
BRILLIANT! You are in a special club of people who appreciate Juarez! I got a bus to Chihuahua yesterday and I miss Juarez already. It's my kind of place. El Paso border crossing is in the next video! Thanks for the Juarez love!
@@davidostrowski679 I grew up in El Paso now I live In NYC. I have to also agree. Mexican people are the friendliest people . I used to go across the border to the Juarez Strip. I totally miss Mexico. Im considering going to Mex. And being an expat. Fan of your channel. Happy Easter. Safe travels.
Thank you for helping to dispel the myths of Northern Mexico. It’s looks a great place to visit for sure! You’re hilarious and that adds to the video for sure😂 PS I love your hair even more!👍🏽🇲🇽
Myths? The things that happened and happen in Juarez weren't myths. I can understand nothing ever happening to you over there, just like nothing ever happening to me over there, but that doesn't mean the murders and crimes that happened were myths. That's like people saying Germany never did the things they did to Jews just cus some of the residents there didn't witness what was going on, and that's exactly the case.
Thank you for visiting my city! There is still so much to see and discover, you just stepped on the north part of the city, where the rest of the city has populated and expanded is so much bigger, its good that you enjoyed your stayed here, hope to see you soon in our frontier 🙌 next time try riding one of those tour bus 🚌 they are pretty cheep and its a great way to see all the city and what Juárez its all about. Feel free and safe to visit again!
You're welcome Checo! Yes absolutely, I couldn't believe how large Juárez is, and I love heading out into the suburbs. I mention briefly in the El Paso video (currently editing) about how cities like Juárez just endlessly expand in comparison to cities like El Paso. I really enjoyed my time there and the guys I stayed with were awesome. I'm in Chihuahua now but I miss Juárez very much. LOVE IT!
@@Renram22 currently there are no major events to attend, we have an small amusement/fair park called Borunda, where it opens free access to public at night and it's very visited on weekends. There are various shopping malls around the city to explore and try some food: Misiones, Plaza Juarez, Alameda Iglesias, which are more centric and unique. There are various restaurants that go from street food types to high class service, my recommended ones are: Ajiji - Great Mexican food with average cost. Taco fish - Cheap street style fish tacos restaurant. Mariscos Wazza - Great seafood with average cost. Chapa prime - Expensive Mexican style restaurant Viva México - Mexican Restaurant that gives a 1-2 hour show with horses and live music, dancers and all representative of most of Mexican culture 🙌 you need a reservation and arrive early about 5 to 6pm to have time to eat dinner and enjoy the show after (look up Restaurante Viva Mexico Juarez in google to make a reservation online, the show is only available on Friday to Sunday nights). Visit the Central Park, a large open to public park, full of weekend events from early midday to night. Next to it there is the largest Interactive Museum called La Rodadora, great experience for all family and adults, large variety of exhibitions and activities to explore and learn. Please try our speciality, all best burritos of the world (Los Metiches & Aquimichu are my favorites). To have Breakfast visit "La Nueva central", its a large mexican cafeteria open 24/7, great flavor, service and all menu is not time restricted. For night bar and drinks action, i recommend you just go to your nearest restaurant bar or hotel bar, there is no particular place and almost everywhere seems the same, if you really want to visit some, there is San Martin, Azenso Bar, or any bar in boulevard Gomez Morin (please refrain to visit a heavy populated bar, because most of the locals do drink hard and depending of the music, people can get aggressive with each other. Please only visit restaurant-bars if you want to drink and have a pleasant night, or if someone gives good recommendations of a friendly bar feel free to explore. Have fun 🙌
Gracias... soy una juarense orgullosa de mi ciudad y aplaudo que los youtubers sean aventureros y busquen otros lugares en México que no sean los.mismos de siempre
I always heard that Juarez was a horrible scary place that women got killed in and were not safe, I love how you show everyday life in the places you visit and don't sugar coat or play into the propaganda.
Yep I had heard the same about women. Male privilege because when I talk about the whole is *insert country* SAFE thing I'm always specifically talking about it from a single male's point of view
I've been living in this place for 20 years, and this guy just kept to the relatively "safe" places, he has to go to anapra, Riveras del bravo or just get away from downtown so this shitty city can show it's true face. Las muertas de juarez monument is there for a reason hahaha
Thank you for giving my hometown the good spotlight that it deserves, Food suggestion for tortas go to "NO TE LEVANTES HONEY" located next to the border crossing
Thank you very much for coming to my city, I know this city doesn't have much for the eyes but the best thing about this place is its people. Thank you for seeing my city with kind eyes. Hope you can come back again.
Yo soy de cd jaurez para mi es una cd que da mucho a toda la gente que llega y sobretodo me encanta la comida como en todos lados hay cosas buenas y malas disfruten la cd 🤙🏼👍👍👍
Gracias Jose! I wanted to go with a more fast-paced rocky and urban edge to capture a bit of the grittiness and chaos (in a good way) of Juarez! I have a music page on my website with selected songs from videos, I'm going to upload these ones today
David: I’m greatly impressed to see how objective and how appreciative you are of one of the most incredibly giving cultures you’ll ever encounter, you will find humble, dirty and in some cases like myself ugly people that work endlessly for a better future. I was privileged to be born in this humble city and I could not have been born in a better place. You’d never experience hunger, thirst, loneliness, emptiness nor boredom in Ciudad Juárez! Locals will offer and give to you whatever you need before you even acknowledge you need it. It might not be Cosmopolitan, nor is it packed with shallow runway models on their streets, but wherever you go, you will be treated with an innate hospitality, warmth and a delicious humble meal that you will remember and treasure for life, enjoy!!
Hi, David... I'm glad you made it to Ciudad Juarez and am glad you're finally here! I thought you would love it. Your photography and drone shots are stunning! We see La Equis from the rolling hills over here in El Paso, a landmark of this area, and I love seeing it. I've been crossing to Juarez for my dental work for the last 10 years and receive better dental care there then I ever have in the US. We have people who fly to El Paso from all over the US and Canada for dental, vision, and medical care in Juarez for a fraction of the cost. We actually have 4 border crossings between Juarez and El Paso. Bridge of the Americas is also called the free bridge and usually has all the international semi-truck traffic, pedestrians cross as well but it ends up in a residential area of El Paso. Most Juarez pedestrians cross over on the Puente Internacional Paso Del Norte Bridge to shop in downtown El Paso in the Santa Fe Street commercial area and the pedestrian and vehicular traffic is usually always heavy in both directions. The Santa Fe Street area on the El Paso side is also very lively and colorful, and most all of downtown El Paso is nice. We share many connections between our two cities, and many people cross back and forth because of having family on both sides. In El Paso about 85% of our population is Mexican and bi-lingual, and many El Pasoans speak Espanol ONLY. Most El Pasoans are NOT Anglos nor white! Juarez always has lively and colorful street life. Glad you made it to the world-famous Kentucky Club. Glad you loved Juarez so much, I knew you would! And besides the Margarita, you should know that they claim Juarez is also where the burrito was invented! So you had both originals in their source! Tin Tan was a Mexican actor, singer, and comedian who was raised in and began his career in Juarez, and was known for having kissed the most MX actresses in his career. He also did Spanish dubbing of Disney films,
Thanks for the awesome info man! Yep I spent some time down that shopping street in El Paso before heading into downtown. My time was limited because of work in the evening so I only really planned to explore downtown. Loved St Patrick's cathedral! You'll see the funny bit when I was excited about the streetcars only to discover at the end they only run Thursday to Sunday (I was there on Weds), but I did see one go by out of service so I was happy!
¡Amor por Juárez! I am here all the time with my wife’s family and glad you are dispelling the myths of the dangers. Sure there are gang killings from time-to-time BUT it’s overwhelmingly a family city. Sorry you didn’t get to try the Chili Relleno Burritos - the best!!
Oh my goodness David ever since you turned 40 you’ve become so much more cheeky. I love it. Zero fucks given. I love this video. I can’t wait for the next one. 🥰🥰🥰
David, thank you for this video. It is fantastic! I particularly loved the drone shots and your enthusiasm about the city centre. I don't know Juárez well, but did pass through several times in 1992 and 1993. Bits of your video vaguely rang bells, but to be honest I can't remember a lot about the city. Your video makes me want to go back!
You're welcome Neil! Im glad the drone survived the border! I guess the city has changed immensely since then. The growth is crazy! Next video from El Paso but in the prime timeline I'm getting on a bus to Chihuahua!
I understand. I went to Innsbrook in Austria and I totally forgot I went until I transferred my VHS to digital ( I was in Europe, but I don't remember that particular city). That was in 1992. Scary.
En general todas las ciudades del norte de México son algo similares, a mi me resultan muy agradables, tampoco pensaría en mudarme a EEUU. Ni mis conocidos, algunos tienen su visa pero tampoco es que tengan interés por vivir allá.
My favorite part about these videos is seeing how lively the streets are in Mexico. It seems like there's always some event, market, live music, etc. happening in the cities you go to. Here in the US, our cities are nowhere near that vibrant. Mexico just seems way more community oriented. I never expected Juarez would look like this!
Soy Morelense. :3
What exactly makes a "mexican" incredibly awesome? Lol sounds weird, I can say Mexico is cool, but saying Mexicans as a whole is bold. There's a reason why people are leaving from there seeking safety tho, cool to visit, not all that great to live in when compared to the U.S.
I loved this video. I also loved the kind things you had to say about the Mexican people. It great you touched on it because many people in the US mistakenly believe that people are just dying to come ti the US. In fact, there are usually three reasons they actually do: 1- necessity, 2- education, or 3- family unification. Juarez does tend to have a lot of Americans in its consular area as that’s the consulate that processes the immigrant visa petitions. This was a great video. I wish now that I would have expired a bit more when I was there.
Thank you very much! These sorts of places fascinate me. I can't believe it, I realised afterwards that I'd somehow set my camera to high quality setting instead of power saving, hence the battery running out. It's fixed for next time lol
I just spent the last three weeks in Juarez for work. I never felt unsafe at any time. The people of Juarez were absolutely amazing. So kind and friendly.
Glad you like them! That's exactly the plan! I try to go to a variety of places so videos can be remembered instead of just being 393 videos of walking down a beach in Vallarta lol
Thank you! Thank you! For visiting and showing around my beautiful hometown! I moved to the US in 1994 and always long to go back; I try to visit at least once a year and my husband and daughter love it too! the people, the environment, the food! Siempre eres bienvenido en Cd. Juárez! 🙂
¡Gracias amigo! ¡Me encantó Juárez!
Thanks for visiting Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. A vibrant border town with the most amazing people. Once you visited, you wanna come back. Good drone shots. Love it. This is the city where the Mexican Revolution began. This is the city where for the 1st time a president of USA and a president of México meets. Too many great things about this border. Im glad you enjoy it because I enjoy it as well with your video.
Awesome facts Carlos! I 100% agree on your wanting to come back point. The people I stayed with were legendary and I didn't realize Juárez has the historical significance it has. I'm glad to include Juárez in my list of legendary Mexico locations!
yep.. that last aerial shot with the sunset and that song hit me hard..im not from Juarez but from Chihuahua city but I have relatives from Juárez. Best people of Méxicoooooo
Great video, I hope you got out to the cafeteria and maybe even followed a bit of the Juan Gabriel trail. Another interesting fact about Cuidad Juarez is that XELO radio station used to have 500,000 watts of radio frequency and it was actually for about 40 years the most listened radio station in the USA
Loco! Thanks for the interesting fact! Such an interesting area of Mexico! El Paso is coming next time, I filmed it a few days ago but I'm off back to Chihuahua today!
@@davidostrowski679 cool, I was just in Chihuahua two weeks ago, in fact I am going to post a video tomorrow about arriving in Chihuahua, I was a bit sad though because the haunted maniquin is still gone, maybe she came to life 😂
Cool to see you film a video in Juarez. I was there recently for a couple weeks. I had a great time there and didn't even get shot or stabbed a single time. The centro was definitely rough and had a lot of sketchy looking people but it was cool
Love it mate happy to see you happy! Looks like a great place , great vibe. Would you ever consider telling us the prices of the food you eat in the video? I'm probably just nosy. Great job mate! Keep up the awesome videoage 😜
Hey I normally do put a little graphic on the screen with the cost in mxn and usd, I either forgot to in this one or couldn't remember how much it was lol. Will try to remember next time!
Great video as always. You're close to Parras. Cradle of winery in the Americas. Origin of Casa Madero the oldest wine firm. Worth a visit. The capital of Chihuahua has very beautiful architecture and the Tarahumara mountain range is stunningly beautiful. The Tarahumara are a people of runners. Ultra marathon champions
I was born in juarez, my parents decided to move to el paso tx when I was 15, I went to high school in el paso tx... now I live in nm but I still visit el paso and cd juarez often. You are the best.
soy de juarez en el centro hay muchos puestos de comida muy rica y variada lo unio malo es el calor y siertas zonas peligrosas pero ya muy de noche y no siempre
I went to Juarez cross the border and went to the Kentucky bar and waited for my friend that lived in Juarez, what a great experience since the last time I was there was in 2004, I'm definitely going back and thanks for sharing your video
I have a great appreciation for anyone from the hood. I grew up in a fairly average, urban area of West London with crummy drug den high-rise 60s brutalist towers and graffiti everywhere. I didn't grow up in one but they were always looming
About the tortillas I think it depends on the person I prefer flour torrilla, but I also really like corn tortilla, I also always buy frijoles con queso burrito and every time people are like why don't you get something else, but that is what I like the most and that place at the end "Los burritos el negro" they are really good. If you have time and its open you should go and try them.
Hey Maria! Frijoles y queso definitely gets some hate! I like it but this one was a bit overloaded with frijoles! Thanks for the recommendation, I loved walking down Insurgentes with all those art deco style buildings, felt like I was in the 50s!
Did you know Sebastian is from Camargo Chihuahua (my hometown) a couple hrs south of Chihuahua I do recommend a visit. Close by is where Juarenzes go for semana Santa. Los Filtros, Boquilla and el Tigre one of Mexicos biggest Dam there's a lake and tons of balnearios along natural springs. Tons pf partying in Semana Santa. But we're too old for that. Haha saludos from the Parral Chihuahua región.
Hello from a border town on the north side of the USA! I really enjoyed getting a close look at Juarez - especially your epic drone shots and the information about Sebastian (I love that X!)! That said, (and not to minimize how much I appreciate your videos), I have to quibble with your use of the word "destination". Using one of the definitions as "a place that people make a special trip to visit" - you did not convince me that Juarez fits the bill. I can see (and have seen) dilapidated, boxy, utilitarian, mid-century commercial buildings in just about every city in the USA and Canada. Why would I make a special trip to see them in Juarez? The thing about central Mexico, with its prehispanic, colonial and modern history and architecture - it is worth making a special trip to see things that you cannot see anywhere else in North America (plus one can enjoy the same, or arguably better, Mexican culture and food as in Juarez). Vancouver (as a city rather than as an indigenous settlement) is barely 150 years old. Even Montreal and New York are newbies compared to Central Mexico. I wonder how long I would be able to entertain myself in Cd Juarez on a special trip/ vacation? My point is: you might be bored with it, but don't knock Central Mexico (so much, at least ... I agree with you about the narrow focus of many Mexico RU-vidrs). There is much in Central Mexico worthy of one a special trip. In fact, I still discover and learn new things every time I visit. Despite my quibbles ... I am going to miss your "tell it the way you see it" approach to your videos!
Haha we will always have to agree to disagree on this one my man! The boxy more modern architecture is what I like simply because you just don't really get it where I'm from. What is 'Mexican culture'? Culture in thr North is just as valid as in boring colonial towns I mean splendid LOL. And food... omg definitely arguable. The burritos in this were a crap example but IMO food in Chihuahua, Durango and Coahuila is far superior to somewhere like Oaxaca or Guanajuato. More variety, more flavour. I couldn't eat gorditas in Mexico City, they are like supermarket food compared to up north. I guess there is a North/South divide in Mexico!
Love it. Hope you will check out Matamoros, definitely my favorite Texas-Mexico border town. May be buying a farm there this year or next year if I can find a few acres near town.
Awesome! Matamoros was on my plan originally simply because I did a video in the other Matamoros in Coahuila last year. I plan to be in Monterrey at some point so a trip to Tamaluipas could happen... but no promises!
Really like the video and previous others. Are you in El Paso already. Get the bus to a bronco on a Saturday. The speaking rock casino. Is where people go on the weekend too.sunday mornings people go to farmers markets.
Wow, it’s a beautiful city and looks clean and organized. The border crossing looks clean and organized as well. Nothing like crazy ass Tijuana. 🤣 I also went to the birthplace of the margarita, some historic site in Ensenada, Baja California. There must be many margarita birthplaces. Lol As usual, enjoying your videos from sunny San Diego! 🌞 🌊
@@cristianabraham384 I know it has alot of problems like many Mexican border cities, but it’s ok to make some positive comments about some aspects of the city.
I knew it! re the margarita! Yes like Chihuahua I felt it was very clean, of course there were some areas like anywhere with a lot of dog shit etc but you get that everywhere. The border crossing is in the next one! It was very eye-opening! I've done lots of overland crossings but this one was very interesting!
"looks clean and organized" WHAT HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHA HOLY SHIT! After 20 years living in this third world, i'd call this city a lot of things, BUT NOT CLEAN OR ORGANIZED AAHHAHAHAHA
El Paso / Juárez are one community, and used to be even more close before stupid US politics tried to divide. But still in 90% indigenous / Mexican El Paso, nearly all of them have family in Juárez, and many visit several times a week. The vast majority of people on both sides of the Imperial Border in the region are the same families and related.
Same with Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, in Laredo the buildings look more Mexican and in Nuevo Laredo some of the houses looks like the ones on the US side. It's like one city in 2 countries.
If youre afraid of getting ripped off on taxi fare/ not turning on the meter....or taking the long way around.....take a collectivo. A collectivo is a van or small bus where people get on and people get off, for a few pesos here and a few pesos there. No foreigner meter scams....or confusing zones fare to misunderstand.
thanks for helping in the destigmatization of my beloved Juaritos. Yes, we do have a drug and violence problem but our people are also humble and caring. Thank you for showing that other face of Juarez that many don't know. And as our most famous adopted son JuanGa would say... Arriba Juarez!
You're welcome Alex, I think Juárez is absolutely elite and one of my favorite places in Mexico of all time. Like you say, people know there are issues but you deal with it, instead of painting buildings bright colours to give off a false image. VIVA JUÁREZ
I'm so glad you're back in Mexico. I missed your off-the -beaten-track adventures there. I love Mexico but I've seen much less of it than you. I look forward to watching your next videos.
Bravo Amigo! So glad you enjoyed Juarez. Been going since I was a little girl to visit family and always have enjoyed it. I love the “basic bitch” burrito! 🤣🤣🤣 It’s definitely a different vibe than southern Mexico and being a border town give it has a lot of character.
The cathedral downtown is from the 1600s but the interior was remodelled, in fact the whole downtown has been renovated and even got rid of somestreets to make it less car centric,
Haha it doesn't help that there are so many British accents as well! Even I can't always tell the difference especially with some northern England accents because I haven't spent much time up there
When I visit border towns in Mexico I have that awkward feeling that I dont know if the town can be described as beautiful or ugly, to me beauty can be found in diferent ways and this video (I think) is intended to transmit that... keep posting this type of material!! Thanks
Ok I'm all about exploring Chihuahua, Torreon and Cordoba but Juarez always did scare me really but hey at least you went there to show us how wrong we are Don't worry I don't believe Juarez is as bad as Kharkiv, Ukraine or Bangui, CAR
I just enjoy your videos. I was born and raised in El Paso and growing up there yes there are dangerous parts of both El Paso and Juarez but some things that I love are the food and the rich culture. I just wish i grew up in a bilingual household but do know a little spanish but havnt had the chance to practice it in a long time. Anyways keep up the amazing videos and cheers and have a great day :-)
I was shipped off to Juarez for 2 years to be a missionary, as I grew up Mormon. Back in 2010-2012, the place was a little more rough around the edges, but even still, I absolutely fell in love with the city, the people, the food, the weather, and the mix of cultures. I'm glad to see that Juarez has gotten safer since then. Safety is much a matter of personal responsibility and common sense. Stick to the right areas at the right times and you should be fine. There were however, a lot of dangerous areas in Juarez when I was there. Tierra Nueva, Rancho Anapra, Jardines, etc. I love Juaritos, and I don't want to slander it, but in the spirit of being impartial, I've got to say, there is more to the danger than meets the eye when passing through as a tourist. I witnessed multiple homicides in my time in Juarez, I was jumped/robbed more than once, I preached to many people who had blood on their hands and confessed to murders, I also preached to many who had lost close friends and family to the violence, I learned to find my way home in the evening while avoiding the sounds of gunshots. Yes, it is a misunderstood city, and it's gotten better. However, I have to say, 10 years ago, it was indeed dangerous compared to most other cities. Worth pointing out that around that same time, St. Louis, Baltimore, and Detroit were all right there as well, so I don't mean to put Mexico below the US in any way. It's just that some cities pass through some unfortunate circumstances. I'm glad to see Juarez has been healing.
Yeah it’s hard to say. I lived in El Paso for 4 years, met a bunch of people, been to Juarez. Even though I’m Mexican, there’s not much to El Paso/Juarez area compared to other American cities. It’s very dull to me & boring, but I guess that just part of the desert areas and doing the same stuff for “fun” over and over & there’s no other nearby cities either. Anyone saying Juarez is not as bad as it seems…is lying to themselves. People I’ve met, had friends that got disagreed w another man at a bar, and the guy got off his seat and point blank shot the friend in the head and walked out. That just doesn’t happen occasionally in the US, not to mention the corruption in the police.
When all the bars and nightclubs were closed (2021 or 2022)one....nightclub immediately upon first getting off of the pedestrian bridge opened up but for sit down restaurant meals only( not just a beer or drinking alcohol without buying any food). Since it was the only bar or nightclub open there was a long line. Anyone who just wanted to enjoy a cerveza in Mexico border or just a margarita alone was not allowed in. Turned away from the line.
Juarez-El Paso are like twin cities, since many elpasoans have mexican origin, and viceversa, so they cross the border for school, work, and so many have double citizenship as well. Just realized what you meant when stating "learnt spanish by immersion". Cool 😎. Same thing with me learning english, since here at the border, you get to listen to US radio, open US TV, and get to practice every weekend by crossing the border. I learnt english way before going to college in El Paso for some time (UTEP, University of Texas at El Paso), thanks to radio and TV, and because some of my relatives are americans, altough my english writting is still quite poor. Thank you so much for visiting us. I hope that you brought good memories with you from Chihuahua. Cheers!
Hey I'm from El Paso and everyone's always saying oh what is so dangerous you'll get jumped in a second and all this and I never knew what to believe because I never. But I was a bit worried after I planned on a mission trip with the used to go there so thank you for kind of portraying it everyone's saying that it's actually not as dangerous as people make it out to be. Can anyone give insite on juatez
