I think if Ivanchuk would have been a little more patient in the middle game, he would have beat him. That early extra pawn snag and he had a much better overall position in the middle game as well. Black got lucky.

The position after Qxh6 (+-) is something that most of you will know from team games. The team mates say: "Hey, our man on board six is winning, he is a pawn up!" "Yes, I guess, he is winning,. Should I offer a draw in my game?" "You can do so because our man on board six is winning. He picked the pawn on h6 for free. It can't go better!" This is the truth, but the truth is that a grandmaster like Ivanchuk is not able to win this position as you would also not do in your team game. Why is this so? I think it is because your opponent doesn't let go. He just don't want you to get an easy win like this.
@kevinwellwrought2024

The title of this video is prejudiced as Ivanchuk never outplayed Maghsooloo, in fact, it was maghsoodloo that outplayed Invanchuk leading to a lucky escape for Icanchuk with a draw. It is a shame to discriminate against maghsoodlu like this.
@dunkel-zombi_fiziert-heit

wsry, are you blind? ivanchuk controlled all game until he pulled of the combination, which was a point of no return. s.th. went wrong, but he had him under big positional pressure - without counterplay. both are GREAT PLAYERS and this was excellent chess, nontheless. very exciting, too. why is that discrimination? i dont get it.

@@chessandmathguy you are wrong, outplayed means from move one till the end, of course, we are aware that Maghssodloo is higher rated and stronger player but Ivanchuk in his youth was strong too.

I like Rxf4 for the genius factor, but it doesn't seem to win. The simple thing is that if the attack doesn't lead to mate and you are a rook down you just can switch to perpetual check - if this is possible. At the end master player Ivanchuk could be happy with the draw.

I think the position after Bg5 should be 1,5 for white. Black wasted a tempo with Qb6-c7 for no reason. Ivanchuk just wasn't able to crush him. This is why he was demoralized at the end.

I thought Ivanchuk had the upper hand until 47:47 then it started going down hill. Think he should have used his Knight sooner, corner the king or get rid of the Bishop, then move the second pawn. Using the Rook to take the pawn was not good.

majid Vafa The white queen trades for the two black rooks, and then it is a pawn race. Black promotes first, but it does not matter, because white promotes right after them. A queen vs a queen is an easy draw from there...
