Ukrainian music really can be unique, different, special. K-pop took over the world, I'm pretty sure if Ukranian singers won't stop mixing, experimenting with their folk, it'll be fascinating, trendy, popular! that's really lovely
I love NAHABA as Ukrainian which is now in Ukraine during the most terrible war in the world after WWII I just can say that it's our mood now. I think they are dark horses. We want to scream like them now
@@vikkyrose7831 then I'm happy for your mental health. Looks like you don't see terrible war. Because I don't know how you can not scream like that every single day after all that missiles and death
@@VladSem I live in Odesa and I know what is like to hear the sounds of shellings, incl.when a missile hits smth in 2 blocks from you. I just want to concentrate on things that make me happy
Nahabas song very aggressive because they are singing about war and frustration. Verse that's repeats the most translates to "and like broken glass, under the attacks (shellings) you screamed to me Don't cry" It seams that non-ukrainians don't like it because they don't really feel this song, but in the comments a lot of people who wrote that they actually cried because of this song. Same effect have their song Vesnianka (also have eng subtitles), my hands were shaking for the rest of the day when I first listened to it.
And some Ukrainians also don't like it because they don't want to feel these emotions when you or or your close person can die quick, don't like to feel these sufferings and also don't like this sound of a famous russian band that can obviously be heard in the beginning of the song. And Ukrainians aren't guilty that this is the 1st thought that comes to their brain while listening to this, cause we were stuffed by that music 20 years ago and it's not our fault. Yes, there are bands from other countries that have similar sound but much less of people have heard them. A Ukrainian person that dislikes the song isn't less Ukrainian, it just means that his or her mind/emotion condition is different
@@vikkyrose7831 okay, and? Who offended you so much? You don't want to feel "bad" emotions, want forget about war? Ok, you can flee anywhere, borders open now, no one force you to struggle so much. But some people met war earlier, not just in this particular song, so this emotions already exist inside us. My friend died after missile attack, I wish that I wouldn't feel pain and this song would be only one thing that makes me feel bad, but it's not. Btw i see that you actively rooting for melovin which is ok, everyone have their faves, but when you start bashing song because it's not melovin with happy europop music - well don't listen to it, it's honestly great that you don't feel related to topic but a lot of people do.
@@vikkyrose7831also about russian band - is this band in the same room with us? Because high obsession with a russian content is a little bit concerning, everything were created by almighty russians now? Because they don't create this genre and it's don't belong to them. High pitched female voice + electronic drums are not some unique russian inventment. I'm old enough to be the person who's heard tatu constantly for years, but I'm not obsessed with them so I don't hear anything related except electronic music and female vocal. And from where did you bring the take that people who don't like this song are less ukrainian? I stated that foreigners aka non-ukrainians don't like it because they don't live in the context of this song to understand why they screaming and what's going on, what you have to do with it?
@@marselinamar2913 I didn't want to offend you with this comment, I just wanted to say that Ukrainians are not the same and it's not bad to be different, maybe I didn't express my thought in the way that everyone understands. And I'm sorry that your close friend perished because of russians((
@@marselinamar2913 Foreigners that don't like it can dislike it just because they have different taste in music, that is all. Liking or disliking isn't always connected with understanding
As a Ukrainian, my fav this year is Nahaba with Glasss Ukraine has already sent several folk inspired songs in recent years, and Glasss is a nice change of genre. And the lyrics, oh the lyrics. Broken glass, attacks... It's our reality of windows exploding every time a russian missile hits nearby. The lyrics just speak to me, and I believe they can come up with a memorable staging for such an emotional song
I love Nahaba 😍. I will vote for them, but I understand they will not win. Also he is a soldier, and this song is connected to war, like it's showing emotions of people during war time. And it really found place in my heart.
About Mother Teresa: She never gave pain medication (she claimed that pain brought one closer to Jesus - that it was a blessing - even though she went to Western hospitals when SHE needed medical care), and probably kept thousands from obtaining proper medical care that could have saved their lives.
NAHABA is a performance. Their song’s about a girl who lies under fire and on broken glass, the guy tells her not to be afraid and not to cry, although he himself is seriously wounded. This is a very strong song. I hope their act will be as strong
I KNOW IM LATE BUT YOU ARE NOT ALONE, i was voting for them and they were my winners since all songs came out , next month i will go on their concert so sad about them placing second still...
How wonderful to hear so many songs with such high quality after a slew of very mid national finals. My personal favourite is YAGODY but I wouldn't be mad if Alyona Alyona & Jerry, ANKA, Melovin or INGRET ended up winning. I even quite like NAHABA and DREVO.
I also have Melovin at my first place, i really like lyrics in his song, energy and power he gives to audience. He is a good strong artist, i’m sure he’ll perform very well. Interesting fact that he went to a cemetery to write “Dreamer”, i think that’s why it has such mysterious sometimes dark vibes. Thanks for your reaction and analysis!
No, he told that he wrote this song while he was in Lviv and it was a serious shelling this summer, and there was an explosion like 200 m from him, and he started writing it during this attack
@@kristinayakovleva2388 in the interview on Lux fm he told what I just told you 😮 Ohh have I missed the interview on Suspilne? I need to watch it quick. But why he behaves like this? In the same period of time tells different things about same topic 😮😮 Something wrong is going on.
@@kristinayakovleva2388 I have listened to that part on Suspilne. He told Ann that he would tell her later how he wrote the song, and he told that he visited a famous person that isn't alive anymore. He didn't tell that he wrote the song on cemetery, so you misunderstood a little bit
Vidbir always makes me despair because i'd be happy to see like 90% of these songs in Eurovision. Theresa & Maria made me cry because the melody is divine so that is my pick but really, I would be almost equally happy to see Palala, Dreamer, Place I Call Home, Glasss, Queen or Tsunamia go forth.
My "pleasure pheromones" lie entirely in BenidormFest Tom but my "serious admiration" vibes lie in Vidbir this year. What quality. Production levels are off the scale and for me to get 3 downloads from Vidbir, is quite something for me. My 3 against the field are Jerry Heil & Alyona Alyona. This is just lush....dare i say this sounds like an overall winner in Malmö. You heard it here first.😂 Yagody is the second track that i am loving.....ethnic/modern crossover music is right up my street. You say "Fulen" vibes. Yes, agree but more Tanxugueiras i think and i love it! My 3rd is Yaktak. His voice is gorgeous. Like the nicest tasting cough syrup! I can see the "Dance" moment being a thing amongst the fandom. It is with me, already! 🙈 Now, i understand why Ukraine is so high up in the odds. Just winning Vidbir will be tough enough!
Haha i think it’s a good sign when a Benidorm fest Stan is feeling the love for vidbir, just shows the quality 😂 I agree that those 3 are 3 of the standouts. I think we’ve a few leaders of the pack, but it’ll all come down to staging
As a refugee, Ziferblat's lyrics made me cry, in a good (bittersweet) way. As retro music enjoyer, their harmonious mix of different genres and elements are so fun to follow along. What I'm saying is, this song definitely has it's audience:D Was my number 1 from the first listen
hello from Ukraine and thanks for reaction. 🇺🇦 its yagody or nahaba for me yagody feel different enough to stand out meanwhile being culturally rich and energetic but in terms of meaning Nahaba (actually the translation of this word is “the ignorant/arrogant one”) are shockingly heavy. while it feels dancy rythmic the way it makes you want to dance but when you get the meaning of the lyrics it’s tragic and horrifying. suits our situation nowadays huh)
Tsunamia is my favourite from this selection, but there's a lot of great choices here. I think that instrument you refer to is the bandura, but that's guesswork on my part.
Vidbir is amazing this year. So much quality. I love how they held traditional and modern and this selection shows that to the highest degree. Love so many of these entries and how they are so unique to each other. I can’t wait to see who wins and I will honestly maybe even watch it when it is on. My top 5 of Vidbir: 1: Keeper: beautiful and unique in its production. Amazing voice as well and I love the message of the lyrics. 2: Dreamer: I interpreted the song as being a part of a minority and the struggle you go through being yourself and just wishing you could express it more (I immediately thought of the LGBT community first but any minority group would work). And the vocals are impressive and powerful as is the song and progression is just so enticing. Love it so much. I loved Under The Ladder but this might be an even better song, I don’t know yet though. 3: Tsunamia: this is fantastic. Cultural and captivating imo. Love the white voice as well. The mix of ethnic and modern is great with the white voice and rap being mixed perfectly. 4: Teresa and Maria: love the progression of the song and everything just works perfectly here. The chorus is fantastic and the vocals are perfect and I love the message of lyrics as well. 5: Place I Call Home: just a beautiful entry that has a deep message that I love in every sense of the word. Wish it had some slightly more Ukrainian elements to it but as it is it is really fantastic. I also love the 80s vibes of this song in the instrumental of the song. I also kind of feel a bit of 60s psychedelia about it which makes it even more unique tbh. And btw the people I got listening to Endless Chain were Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam or Scott Stahp from Creed I immediately connected them to Drevo’s vocal style. I like all of the songs other than Palala, Glasss and Time Is Running Out. Pretty much any of them could work at Eurovision but I think their best option is Tsunamia as it is kind of like GO_A as they are both very Ukrainian which us what people want from Ukraine. Unique style is instrumental, vocal and look.
I HIGHLY recommend reading the translation to that last one. This is exactly what all Ukrainians feel at the moment. This is the only "war song" I can't hold myself from crying to, each and every time
I love Teresa & Maria, Palala & Tsunamia. Melovin has the vocals but the song lacks that strong Ukrainian identity that stood out so much with gorgeous entries like Shum & Stefania!
Thanks for the review. I love to see how Nahaba's song surprises at the beginning, and especially at the end, when the voices connect. You got the point of Nazva's song, so it's nice to see your reaction as well. From Ukraine with love.
Melovin is my favourite, the production on that track is just so top quality it’s a treat to listen to. Also does anyone get really strong Lion of Love vibes from it??
I think the stars are aligning and this is Jerry's year. Kinda wanted her to win last year but I get why it didn't and I love Heart of Steel. Teresa & Maria is catchy and I feel like non Ukrainian speakers could sing along to the chorus (kinda like Stefania and Shum). It also kinda reminds me of 1944 rhythm and melody wise but not as dark. However, I'd be fine with any of these songs going to Malmo. Ukraine is a country I trust can turn anything into a diamond.
My Top 3: 1. Dreamer Got a bit obsessed listening to the song. I love that beat which builds up slowly as the song goes; a little bit like "Il bene nel male" by Madame last year (another song I was obsessed about). Hope in a bold finish. I would rather him do a different and more interesting note that that long and montonous one 2. Teresa & Maria This is the song I liked the most after the first listening. It didn't wow me after that though. Still a lovely one and don't mind if they win. 3. Time is running out This is very atypical in its structure (has no chorus almost). Agree falls a bit flat in the middle but omg, it just explodes after that and finishes in a lovely vibe. Very intrigued how it will look on stage.
Add a lot of songs to my playlist and listening them on repeat💜 In love with Hahaba and Yagogy😍 Melovin and AlyonaAlyona&Jerry Heil is also cool😇 Thanks for review
I am torn between alyona alyona/Jerry Heil, and Yagdoy, have relistened to them so many times and can't decide If either if them win Vidbir I would be happy. Can't wait to see the staging , we *KNOW* Ukraine staging for Vibbir, then ESC is always amazing.
Thanks for your video, very nice criticism and analysis. Good, competitive Vidbir from our side this year. Hope Jerry will get her chance this time. She deserves it.
Ukrainian language has a lot of “la” and “lala” in it so it mostly happens unintentionally 🤭 But I agree, the whole chorus being lalala is a bit too much Palala is an actual word tho
yea i thought that Palala looked like a real word so shes a little unlucky there. I do think they could have spread the 3 la songs out instead of having all 3 of them in the first 4 songs
Oh, I have decided about the strongest one - I'll vote for MÉLOVIN at Vidbir, it's the most powerful song ❤ Mélovin's energy and vocals are incredible 🔥👌
Nahaba в саме сердце, але це дуже боляче, настільки боляче, що хочеться затулити вуха. Тому мій фаворит Melovin, який несе позитив. Nahaba is in the heart itself, but it hurts so much that you want to hide your ears. Therefore, my favourite is Melovin, which is positive.
Completely agree with your top two, it’s very close between them. I would maybe choose Alyona & Jerry above Melovin as he has had the Eurovision experience before.
I wished they allowed for more wildcards. I really enjoy PARFENIUK - Серед вітрів & Carpetman - Endless Fight (he's a member of Kalush Orchestra). I thought Parfeniuk's funk/groove/jazz song was super fun and unique for ukraine and I also like the smooth rnb/hiphop elements of Carpetman. But of the ones in current contention, I really like Inglet's song because her voice is just so gorgeous. As for others, Yaktak is catchy, anka is growing on me. Some other songs were nice too but needed more progression like Yagody's and Melovin's and glasss for example. I enjoy what they were going for but it needs a bit of tweaking imo.
Find the lyrics for Teresa and Maria. It is strongly Christian, and that has its pros and cons (for me, it's a con). If you're going to ding for problematic lyrics, sending something religious where there are a lot of secular voters is a risk. I'm okay with Melovin; I really like Yagody, since ethnic really appeals to me.
@@валера-р4э that is true, but they are using two Christian women as examples, so it still is a Christian song even if the message transcends religion. And one of those women, mother Theresa, wasn't as perfect as you might think, so that could be problematic too. I really like the song but it's too religiously connotated for me to chose as a winner.
You are wrong to think they are so good cause they are our very best artists- apart from 3 contestants, they are all "no-names"/ new names to us in Ukraine. Vidbir is always so good cause Ukrainians are so musically talented that it doesn't really matter whom we pick for Vidbir - nearly anyone is very good🙂
Jerry heil and alyona alyona are very talanted and very popular in Ukraine. But this song isn't their best. I like Melovin more. Nahaba also has good chances. As Ukrainian I want to scream with them every time I hear the song, even usually I don't listen to such kind of music. It's about how we feel today. It's sad and angry. I also like Ziferblat. It's my cup of tea but I don't think they'll win. Wating for live performance. It can change everything.
For those unfamiliar with the work of Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona I highly recommend their another song which make me very emotional: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CU-1ugD-ceg.html
Hi! In the song "Tsunamia" (Yagody band) you can hear TSYMBALY (is the Ukrainian version of the hammer dulcimer) If you're really into harp sound check this instrument out!
