YES!!! Two of my favorite youtubers!!! I actually thought I clicked on the wrong video. Awesome!!! I grew up doing historical reenactments with my parents. Most who were in the community have either passed on or no longer can do it for health reasons. It's a dying art. Thank you for putting attention on it. The old ways were DEFINITELY best for survival. I thank God my parents showed me that.

Certainly reminded me of the land and areas I was born and raised around 99 years ago just outside of a small town in Virginia called Lynchburg. Seeing some of the small children actors were going barefoot, just really made me think back all those years ago when I would be outside helping my old granny makng lye soap. Some things you never ever forget. Such as the sight, sounds and the SMELLS.

I remember as a kid. There were places out here in the Great Basin where the history could be visited. There were no restrictions for us kids to respectfully become emersed in the places. There were people who had either been a part of that history or were Son's or Daughters of the Pioneers. Not all were Mormon, but all were Pioneers. Life was tough, I learned to make steel when I was still in grade school. Gathering food from all sources available. And yes cooking it. I loved cooking Breakfast the most...lol I guess what I'm trying to say is... Teach your children, and if you can.. Find those people around you and share and learn from each other. As much as you can now... No one makes it in this world alone... May God bless.

How wonderful! We have "Pioneer Days" in the Fall at numerous parks where I'm from in Indiana. These celebrations/reenactments are the highlight of the season! One of my big brothers was the park Blacksmith, giving demonstrations and selling his Ironworks. We now have a nephew who has taken my brother's Blacksmith log cabin and works the hide of various animals for his demonstrations. Our ancestors were hard-working and faithful. The reason for the existence of future generations. I truly enjoy learning and experiencing these reenactments. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of yours! From one mother to another, Happy Mother's Day, Patara!

Heating with wood, hunting, sewing our own clothes, and all that life gives us is acepted with thanks to the lord. Even here it is getting harder by the day. The city folk are way down in the valleys, but seem to know more about farming, and living on the land. Than us who do ! It is a worldwide problem. I wish you luck, and a good harvest. Thank you Patara. That was awesome! We have occasional re-enactments and demonstrations also, and I encourage everyone to learn as much as they can about where they come from. Our ancestors went through so incredibly much in their times and we should honor them by our interest. After all, we share DNA! Like you, I have Native American ancestry, as well as sooooo much more. I have ancestry who served in every American war. Just yesterday, I visited a regional library and research center here in TX where many of my ancestors papers, photos, and possessions are on display. That ancestor served in both the Texas Revolution (after fall of the Alamo) and the Civil War. His grandfather served alongside George Washington in the American Revolution. So many stories! It just makes my heart want to burst. Research your ancestors and network while you still can!

What a wonderful, beautiful example of living history telling! My ancestors on my father's side came over during the Great Migration in 1635 on a ship called The Blessing. The first great grandfather and great grandmother ( x's 10/11?) who crossed over, were both gone within 8 years. And they had only ONE son who went on to not only be the beginning of the family tree here in the U.S., but served in a very important part of the community as one of the very first in that position in that town in this country. We have had a family member in every major conflict since the Revolutionary War. My maternal grandmother's family immigrated in 1914 through Ellis Island. As a young adult I remember seeing their immigration papers in the family photo album. They came from Holland to escape the looming WW1. Why is this important? My great grandmother was a Dutch Jew. If they had not immigrated, I may not be here today. I am eligible for the Daughter's of the American Revolution on both sides of the family. One side having been documented. Make copies of your family history and keep it in a safe place, like a safety deposit box or a fire and water proof box hidden away.

Patara, Yep... I'm a Muzzleloader magazine reader and it's great to read all the stories of the 1700s - 1800s. And I have a few flintlock rifles, they are fun to shoot, but up here in WA. State, it's hard to keep your powder dry. We have had our pioneers throughout are state like Lewis and Clark and all of the trappers and hunters of the 1800s. My family came from Minesota and from all over the Great lakes area. The Downhour's and the Deney's, We have a few trade fairs and living history meet ups up here too. I have learned a lot from them and my grandparents.

I love Townsends I am a reenactor as well. I have been since I was 5 years old and im 32. I started with 1775, then 1850s with the CSA and lastly 1079 by the SCA. I love learning and each has brought something important. 1775 I learned tomahawk and knife throwing and did competitons. 1850s I learned outdoor cooking and Southern charm school. 1079 I was an adult and learned cooking, medicine, how to manage a campsite, sword fighting, continued my archery and axe throwing in competitions, taught my children how to fight, sewing, making clothing, etc. There is so much to learn and do. I encourage everyone to join a reenactment for the learning part.

Excellent! As a young man I was introduced to many such historical sites through out the eastern uSA including my favorite, Williamsburg, Virginia. Another excellent one is Nauvoo, Illinois. Both of these have excellent year round live re-inactments and demonstration of early American pioneer skills and practices. Others, found almost everywhere are essentially museums but nevertheless worth visiting. Some are far off the motor path such as Kirkwood deep in Hell's Canyon on the Snake River. Others in small towns such as Council, Idaho's Adams County Museum. Contribute your time and treasures to these institutions. Join your local historical society.
