Grootman never disappoints. 👌🏾 The point he made regarding eye contact is often misunderstood in the West, they think we’re cowards while we’re showing respect.

Great conversation. What would be amazing is if young AA men could be allowed to come and attend initiation schools in SA as part of rite of passage to manhood. These would bring them even more closer to their Africanness.

@@MrBylaw1 Not all cultures do initiation in South Africa. It's mostly Xhosas, Pedi, and Venda cultures that take it seriously. In other cultures it's optional. 😅 I never went to initiation, and based on the feedback from my friends who went, I am glad I didn't.

Lovely and very informative conversation Rickey❤ please pass my gratitude to Mntungwa for representing us so well as South Africans. Greatly appreciated 👏 Quite often, you'll find those from very humble backgrounds responsible. You'll hear them saying; I do not want my children to go through the same struggles as me. They are loving, caring and considerate towards how they live their lives and also conscious how they treat others. Grace always locates GOD's children wherever they are. He will hold their hands, provide counsel, strengthen, purpose and align them according to HIS master plan. David was not groomed by Jesse. It's not always the case you find those coming from normal homes upright. It is my wish that we all are raised from normal households, and my wish moving forward that GOD turn the hearts of the fathers to their children. It was GOD's original plan and still is. ‭‭Malachi‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬ [6] He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”

Indeed, I'm aware. So they can be initiated in those cultures that take the practice seriously😉

Don't look an elder in the eye...that's interesting

Especially when an elder is reprimanding a younger person. Its considered extremely rude and a show of defiance if the young person stares back at the elder . You can look up every now and then but should mostly bow your head or tilt it and not maintain full eye contact . We also do it when greeting elders. In Venda culture women greet elders in traditional settings and traditional functions by lying on their side in a particular way and covering their faces with both hands. They completely avoid eye contact.

@@asadelmalikphd Yeah bro, it's very rude in all cultures in SA. It's interpreted as being confrontational, especially when you do it to an elder person. 😅😅 Respect is very important to us.

True in other cultures like Ngonis from Malawi, Lozis, Tongas or chewas you dont speak to an elder while standing up and the elder is sitting @MosesMatsepane
