Since that time they have entrenched themselves in power to the effect that they see themselves and their political party as more important than the country and its people. ( see the recent statement by Zandile Gumede, the disgraced mayor of Ethekwini and also that of the ex-president, Jacob Zuma) The ANC has through state capture and its corruption, cronyism, nepotism and cadre deployment policies bankrupted the country to the detriment of especially the poor. Those in power also have flagrant disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law and have thereby alienated themselves from the populace who see them as nothing less than a criminal organisation who oppresses the masses through economical means. That said, it shows how relevant our national anthem is and why it remains a symbol of struggle.
