lol fern, I love how you’re always so concerned about the background noise, but I never ever hear what noises you get annoyed by lol. I didn’t even know they were doing construction 😂 love the videos 💖
So happy Greta is planted. When she was a big girl she was magnificent, but i understood why you had to chop her. Last year a found a beautiful one in a 8 inch pot with gorgeous big leaves and great variagation and had to repot her into a 10 inch pot, was drying out so much. Mine is hanging and love it, i dont use moss poles. Your Greta was my inspiration. Thank you for all you do. You are amazing ❤
I havent been keeping up lately, because ive been so jealous of your collection! I had to get rid of almost all of my plants when i moved last year, and the few i kept, died during winter 😢. But this video made me feel inspired to go get some new ones soon!! I will always appreciate your content Fern!
I vote for Greta GTG as name. She’s ‘Good to Go’, ‘Good to Grow’ and def a ‘Good time Gal’ I’ve had a great time watching her make her comeback ❤️ Thanks for sharing the journey with us!
Hi Fern I would lik e to thank for a discount on Molly's mix I'm ready to try her bend now for the new spring growing season.I Hope your well and Happy . See you in the next Video 👋 ❤😊
Cover pots! I just thrifted one yesterday that’s a ceramic bean pot (random, I know) that’s like 6 or so inches wide! Plus it’s glazed on the inside so it can retain water. Anyways, don’t forget to check the homewares!
Love your videos and plant collection! I’m getting started in tissue culturing plants and also growing these hybrid purple tomatoes 🍅 Super excited to see how both progress over the year ❤
It has been beautiful the past week. In the 70 degree territory. Nearly 80 a couple days. I imagine you’ve been getting some nice weather too. Well that was nice, I’ve for gotten what I was going to say. lol. Old age. So far this is a nice video. I’ve got a couple up pots I need to do. One plant to cut back in hopes of getting some growth. It’s been stuck for theirs my crimson princess the past year. I’m not outdoor gardening though I have in the past. Thats all.
I’m experimenting with outdoor gardening this year! I’ve never been good at keeping flowers alive but I recently planted some dandelions in the front yard, and I’m growing spring onions in water!! I love little planty experiments
I just started adding moss to the top of the soil around the anthurium/alocasias stems, seems to make them happier so far I do the same kinda plant purge, usually while doing other planty chores, realize there’s ones that don’t make me happy, they go! We’re moving to a new property with a big backyard, with a 1/2 wall planter and I’m so excited to do some outdoor gardening!!! Gonna do a veggie patch, plant some bulbs and put up a greenhouse!! Can’t wait! I’m with you on the amount of cuttings for a moss pole, 2-3 are perfect for what we wanna do, except for my Adensonii, it’s on a really wide pole though Queen Greta!
I’m also in the PNW and I’ve got kale, broccolini, cherry tomatoes, and some verbena seedlings going! Just started germinating some bell peppers too 😊 this is only my second year outdoor gardening so I’m still getting this whole “starting plants from seed” thing figured out
I got some elephant ear bulbs that I started today! I live in the pnw too so I put them in pots and brought them inside. I was never a big outdoor plant person but I’m super excited to see how big they get this summer 😊
My frustration with outdoor gardening is what got me started with houseplants! We live up against 130 acres of the Angeles National Forest in the high desert of California (ie…not much green!) so anytime I plant anything out there, the wildlife vine from moules around to devoir it. I’ve tried everything. I think the only way I will be able to grow veggies outside is with a greenhouse. It’s on my wishlist!
I have two monstera on one pole. Thats cause the two came together in one pot and I didn’t realize until I put on a pole. The roots are all intertwined so I le ft it as one.
The time change is a killer especially the older you get. I have struggled big time this year. My Circadian rhythm is totally screwed up I am getting maybe 4 hours sleep maybe 6 since the change.
Fern, self watering hanging pots have been a game changer for me and my strap leaf anthurium. Actually, for all my anthurium. Plants I get in soil go into a very heavy TFF (50%) and aroid soil mix into self watering or no drainage. If they’re bare root they go in PON.
I also feel like this year is super busy. I have my own wedding this year and also my soon to be sister in law’s. I keep on saying I can get a plant in a few months when finances stabilize but realistically I think my plant collection will be staying the same for a while (and hopefully while I’m busy I don’t have many plant deaths)
Hey Fern, I've really enjoyed watching this and all your current vids cos I'm pretending that we're in spring too🤭🙃 But obviously I'm prepping my plants for winter, getting the heat mat out again for my alocasia and other little props I'll me preparing in case the mother plants die over winter. AND I'm excited to set up my new tension Plant hanging pole (from an Aussie company called The Urban Jungle) as well as my one and only Soltech Aspect Grow Light with its Archetto Transparent Wall Mount....I'm so excited!!! Also, I will be re-arranging my 'plant room' (er... it's not really a room, it's just a section of my house in which sits my Baby Grand piano and my daughter's drum kit and around which about 60-70 plants live🤦🏻♀🫣) Anyways, those roots on your Vittarifolium looked like Stalactites haha! Very nice 👌🏼
love propagation videos!! you're making me wanna chop some of my plants or something👀 but fr I got some green lace wings to battle my thrip outbreak and I'm so excited to actaully do something about these little assholes... pray for me yall
I have the poles. I have the moss. I have the plants. I’ve somehow been scared to try actually putting them on the poles. I’m doing it this weekend! Seeing you do it so often has given me the confidence!
Lol. That's EXACTLY how I felt. I ended up just using a cutting I had a bunch of just a queen marble pothos so that if I ruined anything it wasn't the end of the world lol it gave me confidence and now im addicted. However ... that being said. There's nothing to be scared of lol. It's easy and they LOVE it. Lol.
I did the same thing. My Syngonium aurea, I just keep cutting back. I made one pole for my monstera and let the moss dry out. I may sell the second pole I bought. One moss pole is enough.
Idk how I missed this yesterday, bc I watched the vlog as soon as i got home from work.. but it was lovely having another new video to enjoy after work today as well 💚 I'm so excited to see how Greta does on the pole!! And as far as filming in advance and then showing updates right away that sounds great, but also what if you just showed us how last month's re-pots are doing at the end of re-pot videos? Obviously we just had the tour (which was amazing!!) so we've seen all current updates, but say if you repot in april you can show march's plants? Am I making sense? Idk maybe I'm just rambling? haha Happy Spring!! 🌱🌿🍃🌞
That stem could have been laid horizontally in the soil (like how you lay wet sticks on moss). I've done this with several kinds of props and the new growth always grows out normally without issue 😊😊
I think so too 😮 i’ll prob have to find another place to put it soon! The yellowing was on the props though and they weren’t in the window, I think it was just because they were so dehydrated when I cut them off x
I appreciate ALL your efforts Fern.. I hope you feel our love 💕 I have started tomatoes and leeks from seed. I have a raised garden bed to keep the rabbits out and my hubby is making me the “greenhouse” frame to sit on the sides of the garden bed. We will use some heavy plastic to drape over the frame and I am hoping I will have less critters eating bits of my tomatoes before I can pick them up.. I like Glow Greta 💚🐶
If I plan to get rid of a plant that is bothering me, or is bothering itself, I do the 2 step rule. 1st step: Set outside. 2nd step: See if it survives in our NW weather. If it does, great, it lives the rest of it's life outside. If not, then fate chose.
Help!! I’m having the hardest time propagating philo micans. How do you do it? Is it better to use sphagnum or perlite instead of water? My water prop for micans is unsuccessful 😩
Hi! The one that I’m using right now is from ravenvision-orchid-supplies.myshopify.com but I also love this one from crystal star: www.crystalstarnursery.com/collections/botanical-treasure-accessories/products/one-mile-sphagnum-moss
Hey :) I'm sure you've said it before but I was wondering which sphagnum moss it is you use. I'm in Canada too (near toronto) everyone's I see online looks so pretty with pink kinda prettier colours (lol) the one I ordered off Amazon is blah beige and looks a lot less life like If that makes any sence at all lol) also was wondering a good perlite I can only seem to find miracle grow and I find that to be tiny and crappy.
