Mark lives in California right in the heart of Gold Country and spends most days searching for long lost mining camps from the 1848-1865 era. He is also an avid and very successful gold prospector that uses metal detectors and dives underwater in rivers, creeks and streams for gold. However, whenever a witnessed meteor gets sighted, Mark is in a small group of meteorite hunters that travel the globe looking for freshly fallen rocks from space. Mark is very well known in the meteorite community as well. Mark runs a website called ExpertDetecting.com where he teaches courses related to many facets of treasure hunting, detecting, prospecting and even hunting meteorites.
Mark has been a treasure hunter for 35+ years and is a published author and expert in using metal detectors. Spent all of his adult life as a Firefighter-Paramedic in California. Hey that’s Steve Arnold, how cool! You’re right about that being a tough spot to hunt, every rock out there is dark and to the untrained eye I’d think there all space rocks 😂

Yes, a brutal hunt with all of those black rocks. Steve is a hoot to hang out with. Thank you for the view and for your comment!

There are several historical strewnfield in the area. I was really shocked I didn't find a stone from an old fall with all of the area I searched on this adventure. Thanks for the view and comment!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was in Arizona for several weeks this year too. Your so correct, very difficult to even be able to recognize me a meteorite amongst all of those black rocks, let alone have the luck to stumble upon one. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment!

I seen that Meteorite come down. I saw the Radar returns and they didnt seem quite right from what I saw when it came down so we went in a different direction then you guys. It took us like 9 days in a row this week and last to hone in but we finally struck bigtime pay dirt. I will mention thats not the only Meteorite to fall there, We found a totally different class in the exact same area as the probably LL that this stony meteorite most likely is. I tried telling James but he was insistent on that data and wouldn't listen to me so we went with what we saw instead when it came down. It was hard to tell exactly where you guys were but we grid searched the area with all the 50 cal belt links so im guessing we were close before we ventured to the spot we finally started finding them. based on what we saw when it came down, you were in a totally different part of the desert. It seems everyone's using that dirt road when they should be coming up the trails from town

We were using the coordinates given to us by the guys at strutified.com from their radar hits and solution to the radar hits using dark flight modeling software. Some of the pieces that were found were in this area however only a few pieces were found as you probably know. It was also an LL. I searched the student-filled hard for 3 days straight covering many many Untold miles I'm ground with no luck. I wish I lived closer I would go back and continue to search. It's good to hear that you guys had luck that's fantastic. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment!

When I go rockhounding, the position of the sun is a major part of having success. I've found some awesome specimens under greasewoods that were missed by rockhounds back in the day. 👍👍👍

So I have to ask, which lighting do you like better do you like Shadows behind shadows in front or no Shadows with the sun directly above? Thank you for watching the video and for your comment!

I live in Quartzite and saw it fall, when you lay out under the stars at night it feels like you can just reach out and grab the stars, its really amazing, not to mention seeing the Milky Way in all its glory is incredible. Everyone should get to see an Arizona sunset and night under the stars in their life, you really dont know what your missing. Be careful and dont go unarmed at night especially, this isnt the east coast and it surely isnt Cali. Not to sound silly but theres things in the desert that come out at night that arent friendly to humans. Always have a buddy with you when your out here who knows what they are doing in this environment.

No we never use metal detectors on Fresh meteorite Falls typically they're right on top of the ground and fresh burnt black rocks are pretty easy to see. However there are several metal detectors that will detect meteorites. Thank you for the view and for your comment!
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 7 месяцев назад
Yes I have never had to use a metal detector to find a fresh meter at fall I just use my eyes and look for a fresh dark black rock sitting right on top typically especially in an area where it doesn't look natural. Thank you for the viewing for your comment!
