Minelab Equinox 800 Pro Tips you NEED to Know!

Yes this machine is a huge upgrade to the AT Gold and the Equinox 800 is also one of the best VLF gold detectors available as well if your looking for mostly gold. I have been at this for 38 years but you me beat! A couple of old, grizzled detecting vets we are! You say this is the best VLF machine on the market, I totally agree for gold. I like my Minelab Gold Monster 1000 for VLF but this Nox 800 is just a bit deeper. My Gold Monster has paid for itself many times over. Now if I can just get my GPX-6000 to pay for itself! @@BrassMedic Hey Mark I don't run a GM 1000 but from what I've seen on other channels, Nugget Shooter Journals for instance, the GM may have a slight advantage for gold. As of last summer I've taken up sniping, Tasmania is a great place for that with some pristine rainforest rivers, so I went for the nox as it's waterproof, I love it, a very versatile machine. I will checkout your nugget hunting video later. As to your GPX-6000 I heard from my cousin last week, he had a dryblowing set up at Reedy in Western Australia for many years we, hammered the area for years, he's retired but went back there with his wife last month with 6000's, 12oz. between the two of them in 2 weeks. He is impressed with the performance so I'm sure you can make it pay. Happy hunting, John.

I rarely ever pinpoint as well for the same reason (productivity). Most all of my outings are out in open fields looking for iron so the spiral technique is mandatory! The 800 sure is an awesome machine for a new detectorist so that they don't get frustrated and stay interested in the hobby. Do you feel that the AT Pro is as good as your 800 was? Yes it's so common that almost everyone has a story about an incredible find on the way back to the car. As long as you do your diligent research, you will find a good site where you can find your first silver coin. Here's the secret... Be the first detectorist ever to find a spot. In other words, a virgin site that has never been detected! You will find silver! Also go to an older park and listen for high conductors that are very quiet and deep, beat chance for silver! @@mrsryz199 I purchased mine locally at a pawn shop in West Covina. It was the same price as what it would have cost me online. If you are in S. California, the name of it is Cal Gold pawn. I was there yesterday and he had several in stock and was giving away a free 6" coil with it.

I wouldn't give over $899 on Amazon. I looked in your local area and didn't see any dealers for Minelab. Edit: I just saw Equinox 800 with free 6" coil for $899 on Amazon. It said they had 3 left. Thank you for the view and kind comments!! This is also the case with my Minelab CTX-3030 as well as far as the X staying in one spot. Also Iron gives a slightly delayed signal to the ears whereas a coin for example is a quick and sharp response. Good point about the pinpointer mode as you could null the real, desirable signal out by swinging out and over a co-located iron target. 😬 Thanks again for watching the video!! 🙏🤠

Not sure if you're being serious but it's funny you ask this because my PI machines like the Minelab GPX-6000 And GPZ-7000 both give off a loud false on wet cowpies. So I don't dig them anymore learned the hard way it was a false! I mean it's just grass so I don't mind digging in them but it's a waste of my time. Thanks for the view and question! ⛏️🤠

In my experience the "detuning" affect is based not on just pressing the pinpoint again, but instead it is based on the baseline signal the detector is picking up at the time you enter pinpoint mode. What this means is if your detector is over empty ground when you enter pinpoint mode your detector will be at it's most sensitive and will sound off when it gets anywhere near a metal object. However if you enter pinpoint mode while directly over a target your detector will use that level of signal as it's baseline and will be VERY detuned, resulting in a very small detection area, or even not making a sound at all. You are basically telling the detector what the zero point is for the signal. If the zero point is empty ground you get the maximum range the detector is capable of. If your zero point is close to metal it greatly increases how strong the signal has to be for the detector to make a sound.

So the Recovery Speed setting being so high at 7 is more where the circuit is able to hear co-located targets of ferrous and non-ferrous in close proximity to each other. The higher settings of 7 on FE (Iron Bias) allow the bulk of the iron targets to be filtered (discriminated) at the cost of overall depth. If your using a 6" round coil on the Equinox 800 and in heavy iron you can try lowering the iron bias down to 6 or even 5 but you really need to keep that low and slow swing going if you try that. But for me here in California in the old gold rush camps of the 1850's I tend to be in heavy square nails and broken bits of food cans. I definitely start every hunt at a new site with my 7's settings and the 11" coil. When targets start getting thin switch to the 6" coil and eventually will lower my FE down to as low as 5. What kind of items are you mostly finding in your beds of iron? Thanks again!! Mark 🤠

@@BrassMedic my sites are mostly mid 1800s as well. Im a coin shooter at heart so I always try to pluck the silver, and copper coins out of the iron 1st. Then i start digging the mid tones... Thats when the relics start showing up... Buttons, broaches, crotal bells... Things of that nature. Once i feel I've hammered the site to death and the signals are far and few between... Thats when I start changing modes and settings trying to "beat the iron" I have never once not missed items in the iron. Once I drop all my settings and literally crawl through it I always find something good

Yes, it's a fantastic all-around machine and it's came way down in price as the new Equinox 900 is now out. The Minelab Equinox 800 is one of the best all-around metal detectors ever made. Great on gold nuggets too! I can highly recommend it (at this price range). Thanks again!

Hi Gene, Great question, so the FE and F2 are in fact independent of each other and you can choose either one or the other. So since I highly suggest detecting in Multi-Frequency (switching to single frequencies only when trying to decide when to dig or lower frequencies when only trying to detect deep park silver) I only use FE. So you are correct, when FE is chosen, F2 therefore is in active and has no effect and vise versa. So in this particular video I'm suggesting an FE use and setting of 7 when around iron or park trash such as iron bottle caps. Also safe to assume that not everybody has done the update to even see F2 but that's a whole other video!! 😆 Thank you for the view and question!!

Great question, kind of depends on where you are detecting. If your in fields looking for relics I would use FE unless your getting lots of really thin scraps of iron that are giving stable/constant target ID's. Another time to switch to F2 is in a park where you are detecting and digging iron bottle caps that sound good in FE at 7 (because in FE, bottle caps sound good at anything below 6). But generally speaking I use FE because I am always in fields looking for relics. A few other things for everyone to keep in mind, F2 is only available to users who updated their machines on Minelab's website. F2 is completely independent or FE and it's either one or the other as both can't be used at the same time. And lastly the entire Iron Bias circuit is only active when in Multi-Frequency mode. @@offthebeepinpath Great question and I'm glad you took the time to ask it. The reason is, I may not recommend the rule of 7's for your exact situation. My rule of 7's is more for detecting in areas with lots of iron such as old square nails, broken iron food can parts or in a park for example where there is a lot of concentrated people traffic over many years with bottle caps and especially crown style iron bottle caps. These settings will work great for these heavy iron areas. But if your in a typical park out in the areas where sports are played or in tot lots or playgrounds or a grass area at a school where recess and PE take place (as these are always the best areas for finding gold jewelry) these types of areas are not typically heavy iron or bottle caps as much as more picnic type areas are at a park or areas in a school where they eat lunch. Or in your case, down at the recreating areas along rivers . . . . In these areas I would be in Park 2 with an Iron Bias of 5 and recovery speed of 5 or 6 (depending on which coil your using) and I would really be on the lookout for all of those mid conductor and low conductor, repeatable signals. Unfortunately, you absolutely have to dig all pull tabs and foil signals if your looking for gold jewelry. Every once in a while you will be in for a nice surprise when that typical pull tab signal pops out of the hole and it's an 18k gold ring! So if your in areas such as you described and they are not always absolutely loaded with trash try these other settings I mention here.
