The spreadsheet I originally did, is a basic outine with the objective for people to create the basics and then modify it to suit their individual needs. It certainly works for me 😊

Hi Nigel I posted a photo of Hilda's Mix seed on a Facebook gardening group that I got from Andy also. they were last year seeds I saved. I did watch your link about the planner you use, thank you Steve Colwell

Hi Steve, yes quite a few gardeners are using Hilda’s Mix. I think Andy dished them out 4-5 years ago now 👍🏻. A great tribute to his late mom

Hi Duncan, the planner is very useful, particularly if you have holidays planned, also good to look back on past years 👍🏻

Hi Nigel Great video as always. You got me using a spreadsheet a long time ago but I can see from your it could use a few modifications. Thanks for the tips. Cheers.

Hi Keith. During the day I tend to keep notes on a scrap of paper (with the date on 😉) I update the spreadsheet at night or on a rainy day. Sometimes I can have 3-4 days to enter but it don’t take long 👍🏻

Thanks Nige got me headphones on that camera shutter sound made me jump a foot. Ive started off with a spread sheet for the last three years inspired by your system, but after a few weeks i always mess it up and forget to update it

Yep, love my Vitopods, Nigel. There is no rival. Good tip with the duvet (I use an old 99p Ikea fleece LOL) I am a bit slow with my brassicas this year so thanks for the nudge (or kick up the arse). I prefer the older grey Agralan plug trainers to the new green ones, they seem easier to get the plugs to pop out. Great video buddy!

I don't think your that 'slow' Steve, I don't really start mine until March, so what would that make me! : All the best - Steve

@@SteveRichards Ah, but as you know Steve, I sell 90% of what I sow. Many would rather buy seedlings than sow their own. With this biblical rain we're having I'll have to start selling watercess! Another 20mm forecast by lunch today 😥

As you know Nigel I'm generally not keen on sowing onions until February, but yours are looking stunning, makes my little babies look rather sad by comparison. When did you sow yours? I'm keen to see how they go, you might even change my mind, it has been known : All the best - Steve
@MuddyBootz
@MuddyBootz 6 месяцев назад
Hi Steve, the onions were sown 19 Nov in the Agralan Plug Plant Trainers. Into Vitopod @ 18C with no added lighting. Transplanted into 12cell trays half trays on 17 Jan with bottom heat set at 12C. I remove the lids during the day so they are at greenhouse ambient temp. Lids go on and bottom heat comes on at 19:00 until 07:00 next morning. Cheers Nigel

I taught you only sowed the clapton cauliflower nigel, just wondering if your just chancing the others. Unfortunately I have clubroot and onion rot so I'd appreciate any advice ...thanks
@MuddyBootz
@MuddyBootz 6 месяцев назад
Hi Andrew, because I grow mainly F1 varieties, they tend to crop at the same time, so by adding a few more varieties I hope to harvest them at different times. With clubroot I added either dolomite lime or a product called PERLKA to the soil. Onion rot can be a nightmare. Fortunately I have not suffered with it my self but I seem to remember adding calcium nitrate to the soil helps… but double check that first.

Love the lil quilt idea I’m gonna adopt that idea. I grow from the window sill to an unheated greenh use. I have the n heated vitapods on my window sill..they’re expensive now chuck. My tough ball onions sown with you last September are doing fab in the outside grow house. Lots of lovely little idea gems x ps what brand are those mini root trainers please?
@MuddyBootz
@MuddyBootz 6 месяцев назад
Hi Lynne. I was amazed at how much heat gets trapped beneath the quilt. Every little helps 😉👍🏻😊 The root trainers are from Westlands. Gro-Sure Visiroot. You can by just the cells (12 pack about £11) or you can buy a kit which includes a lid and base.

i used to keep a written account of what i'd sowed, when, germination rates and weather during my pre you tube days. i did this for about 9 years. nowadays, i don't bother. the main thing for me now is watching out for cold snaps..............brian
@MuddyBootz
@MuddyBootz 6 месяцев назад
I find the records invaluable for myself even as a reminder to something I may have forgotten to add to sowing list. I can definitely see a pattern of things being started earlier, also at how many varieties have disappeared from the shelves over the years
