hi, fern! as a fellow lover of super thrive, here's a quick tip: when you open new bottle, poke a hole in the seal. that way you can simply squeeze however many drops needed and not have to mess with a dropper. 😊

I'm super duper impressed your BF knows the difference between a liquid measure and a dry measuring cups. So many people wonder why their recipes don't turn out and that is usually the problem. They don't say baking is a science for nothing. 😉😊 He's a keeper.

One thing that's never failed me for spidermites is using mite spot on treatment that you would use for rabbits, ferrets ect. You use like 6 drops per 100ml. I saw it in a plant group once and tried it and was amazed 😂 I now spray my plants every month or so, when I remember and It definitely stops them coming back. When I get lazy or don't spray for a couple of months the spidermites pop up here and there, but it literally doesnt bother me now as I can easily get rid 🌿 Love all your videos and vlogs Fern!! Thanks always 😊

I have had a nepenthes for over 10 years,it is huge!!!My conditions:I live on the Baltic coast in Poland,my pitcher plant lives in the west facing window(it has never been in a cabinet).I have it in a big pot,the soil is an orchid mix,a lot of bark,perlite,lava...also some organic soil,it loves moisture but I water it when I remember.It is a very forgiving plant,I love it.

i actually got my castile soap yesterday to make this after you mentioned making a diy mix because spider mites might be present in the plant oasis. its just very odd to me that there is more alcohol than peroxide in this, i drown my plants in peroxide when i go from soil to pon and it helps tremendously in preventing shock. Also with Nepentes, i have mine in a dish of distilled water that i keep filled at all times, mine is a thirsty boi... I was also told by the nursery i purchased from that carniverous plants do not need any type of fertilizer because they get their nutrients from the insects they absorb. Another thing i learned from another video (i dont remember from who to give credit, its been a minute) When your pitchers get crispy on the top, you can cut the crunchy part off the top and the plant will continue to collect bugs. I was also told that if you happen to dump the water in the pitchers you can just squirt some distilled water to cover the bottom so it doesnt dry out and gets a jump start on refilling. Take this info with a grain of salt, i have been doing this and mine is doing just ok D:

Yes!!!! That’s exactly where I found it, like 3 years ago and it’s WONDERFUL!!! I no longer use Captain Jax etc., just use some systemic here and there for more of a preventative! I hope you like it Fern! It’s a great leaf cleaner too and keeps the pests away. Any new plants that come in get sprayed with this too. You should make up some gallon jugs and have it on hand. I’m telling you g you it’s worth it. And it does smell great. I don’t wipe off most of the time when I’m just using it to clean the leaves. ❤❤❤

I have been using this DIY pest treatment for a while now and it works like a charm! I’ve treated spider mites with it and was able to get rid of them. Which totally impressed me. There is a Dr Woods brand of these soaps on Amazon. I’m sure other places too. And they are considerably cheaper than Dr. Bonners. I got both Dr. Woods tea tree and peppermint for $29.99. I just heard you say you couldn’t find it. Hopefully you can. It makes it much cheaper. Well, at least half the price. I hope this works for you. I am glad I came upon it!

In the PNW climate you can expect to get powdery mildew on outdoor plants like cucurbits , especially when the rain comes. Preventatively treating squash, melons, etc will help. I’ve never used neem as an anti fungal but it works on chewing insects for sure

I am curious to see your updates down the line on how the DIY mix will work. Lately I have switched the following method. I very generously spray any plant with annoying pests with 70% alcohol. I leave it with it for a few seconds to max a couple of minutes. Then I hose them down in the shower and that's it. I feel it works because alcohol kills anything on contact and showering them removes it so it doesn't damage the leaves. I have used beneficials before but tbh I don't like how they look hanging on the plants and it feels like a shame sign on them 😂 Plus I do like to shower my plants to clean them every couple of weeks and with beneficials you have to wait for so long before you can clean them. The DIY mix you mentioned last time that contains alcohol as well so I feel it's promising 🙂

If someone is claiming they are “plant food”, it's likely that they cannot legally call it a fertilizer. All fertilizer will have an N-P-K because it's required by law because plants definitely need it to survive.

Your peroxide issue is a C1xV1 = C2xV2 equation, which you might recognize from your nursing days. Short cut method breaks down to: [(% you need) ÷ (% you have)] x desired total volume = volume of 3% peroxide needed (1 tblsp = 15mL, so hard is 7.5mL) So (1 ÷ 3) x 7.5 mL = 2.49 mL 2.5 mL = 0.5 teaspoon! Excuse my nerd moment! Lol
@mzwtch
@mzwtch 11 дней назад
I also just realized breaking it down into mL from the beginning would have worked, too. 1 tblsp = 15 mL and 1 tsp = 5 mL 0.5 tblsp = 7.5 mL ÷ 3 = 2.5 mL or 0.5 tsp

I used a fluffy makeup brush, dawn soap with a splash of alcohol in a spray bottle and filled it with water then sprayed my Alocasia with crazy spider mites. I used the fluffy brush to lightly scrub the plant in all its crevices and I’ve never had a spider mite issue since - it might be more effective than constantly having to spray plants with what you’re using, it’s worth a try! After I scrubbed the plant I let it sit for 5 mins before showering the soap off! 🪴💓

Hey Fern! Consider growing your carnivorous plants in a closed container. They don’t mind sitting in distilled water and I can go like a month without watering mine in the particularly deep closed containers I grow my pings in. I fill the container up until the water is like… two inches below where the plant is. I have a little crocheted vase cover (but you can use a sock) to keep the algae at bay.
