Spiritless Wolf that is also a really good method!! 🤟 I don’t entirely trust the selections made by the magic wand tool to go close enough to my lines though xD but then again I could’ve just expamded the selection afterwards C: thanks for sharing the pro tip 🤗

This is a great technique, but alternatively, if you are prone to not closing off all your lines (like I do, especially in hair), the wand is useless at this point. So laso is great for open lineart :)

Nadia, you introduced an idea to me that spread like wildfire in my mind several months ago. The idea that you don't have to go to art school to be good or even great at creating beautiful art! I almost couldn't believe my eyes at how you change mundane strokes of a brush into something that looks so lifelike I touch my monitor just to make sure sometimes :P Seriously, thank you so much. You inspire the hell out of me, please keep being you girl :) (p.s. I love your voice, it's so calming)

Jack Norvell wow, Jack, thank you so much for telling me all of this ☺️😊 It made my entire day!!! In my country we don’t have art schools per say, so it was never an option for me. I always had to rely on books, online materials and my own discipline to move forward. And today I work fulltime with my art - having an education that doesn’t even relate to my craft haha. So I was very happy to read your comment - it means thr world to be to know I can do a difference with my work. Thank you so much 🙏❤️

Hi Nadia! I am at a point of absolute despair. (I'm also a complete PS beginner). Every time I open my PS and want to start line art for a character I notice how my brush strokes are not completely opaque. Whenever I see anyone draw in these tutorials the lines appear completely black and opaque but mine are still quite grey. My opacity is on 100%, I put 'flow' on 100% too and played around with different settings, but I can't get my lines 100% black, like cartoon/manga line art. I use the preset brushes in the program. The one where the ends are slightly angled to create more natural strokes. I also use a Cintique 16 and have pen pressure turned on. Google doesn't give me answers either. What do I do? Please help!
@Nadiaxel
@Nadiaxel 4 года назад
Hmmmmmmmmm 🤔 That does sound really frustrating and weird. My first guess would've been that it was the flow, but since you already tried adjusting it, I have some other ideas for what you can change: 1) Make sure it isn't the tablet's settings. Inside the tablet's settings, try looking for the pressure settings and see if anything looks off. Do you by chance have a different drawing program you can test in? (Just temporarely) 2) The brush you are using.....it might have some transfer/opacity on it which is locked by default. Did you try with other brushes? Are they all doing the same thing or is it just the one? 3) I found this link to a page that suggests you reset the brush. Let me know if it works: feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/brush-opacity-at-100-but-seems-transparent

I knew all this stuff already from just playing arround with software in general, but that didnt make the video any less enjoyable! I always have to edit my masks a lot cuz it turns out i messed something up n have to redraw it thus messing up my colors that i already did. I usually dont know how i feel abt a piece until i color it tho

I'm happy you enjoyed the video anyways C: I also sometimes have to go back and edit SO much stuff just because I had to make THAT LITTLE CHANGE to the lineart (>w>) I usually end up just merging everything together and work on a single layer, completely destroying the purpose of building of all the structure to begin with haha!

I can't believe how easy this actually is! An hour ago I was almost crying at how weird this whole PS Clipping Mask system works. I do a digital art course at the moment and the teacher uses the normal photoshop solid color, hue and saturation and also curve Clipping Masks, and it wouldn't work for me. She concealed the clipping masks, so it was filled with black color, then could add / do the things she wanted to, which wouldn't work for me. Only when it was white or inverted. I honestly did almost lose my mind. BUT THEN I FOUND YOUR VIDEO AND NOW EVERYTHING WORKS - WAYYYY EASIER. YOU are my hero, thank you from the bottom of my heart 💖💖💖

So does that mean a clipping mask will go through all the layers under it or just the one underneath? Like for example if you were to have hair layer and under hair you have a layer for eyes, if i do a clipping mask on top of hair and start coloring will the color also go through the eyes?
@Nadiaxel

No, it only applies to the layer it clips down to. You can stack clipping masks, but they still refer down to the same base layer :)

What you're trying to do with layer masks is already complex. There's a few ways to make selections from a layer, and you use the most nonsensical way of doing it. You got people who don't use the lasso tool as if it were a pen. Hell, you don't even tell the viewers what the settings should be for the tools you use. If they goof, they'll have 0 idea what went wrong. Like me. I followed you step by step and got different results. I can't even color in the folders under the layer mask, making this tutorial useless to me.

I'm sure this is in some way rewarding or at least nice to hear so I thought I would say thank you for this two-part series. I'm currently diving into digital art and this was very helpful. I have been wondering what to do with those masks but it will surely take a long time to get familiar with all the things layers and their settings are capable of. Still I'm glad to try this medium - most art supplies have always been too expensive for me so it's very pleasant to finaly learn how to color a sketch and I don't have to feel like I will ruin a piece or waste money by just experimenting. I know I have a long way ahead (the next step will probably be buying a PC and a tablet so I have a larger area to work with, drawing on my phone in my hand compared to paper on a desk might be easier on my back but I get the feeling that the missing shortcuts and small display space slow down everything significantly) - but now I think I'm at least a bit closer to understanding the capabilities of the tool I've been given.
