I remember when ODST dropped and I was bummed because all my local stores were sold out, my dad came home with dinner and noticed how sad I was about not being able to play ODST, he told me to get the forks he left in the car for our take out food, and I remember opening the car door and seeing Halo ODST on top of the forks, I remember being so excited I started screaming and going crazy outside at night, I left the forks and ran back inside and gave my dad the biggest hug because idk how he was able to get a copy, all I knew was that he was able to get me one. I remember loading up and dropping into New Mombasa for the first time to start a new journey in the halo universe. To all my friends I used to play with I love and miss you guys wherever you are. Thank you for the memories and the good times Thank you halo, and thank you Bungie

Just another of many lost 25 year olds coming back here for nostalgia and a bit of peace in the shitstorm of adult life.. Feels like not a single thing has gone my way since 2018. I’ve lost so many friends far too young, some in combat and quite a few to suicide.. I’ve thought about it myself so many times.. but to any and all out there like me, there will always be hope. The storm will clear, love and understanding will find its way to you. You deserve it. The pain will lessen and we will find relief. Don’t quit. You’re not dead yet, so don’t you dare try and beat them to the punch. Keep fighting, every damn day you put those hands up and keep fucking fighting. Remember, “we are green, and very, very mean!”

8 years ago a friend of mine went offline, yesterday he came back and the first thing he did was invite me to a halo game he promised to play the day after he went offline, glad he remembered. Two years later he passes away, may he rest in peace

My first 360 broke. Red-ringed, right before the release of ODST. The guys I played with said they'd wait for me, and we'd all drop together. I told them not to, I wouldn't have enough money for a while, and I didn't want them to miss out. Two days later I find out they chipped in to pay towards a new 360. Some days it's hard to get up in the morning. Then I remember my friends pulling me forward. We all drop sometime, lads. You meet the right team though, and they'll make sure you get back up.

This reminds me of my childhood friend I used to play this with all damn night on the weekends. He got really sick one day, and next thing I knew, he was gone. I still come back to this video from time to time just to remember those moments. Rest in peace brother, I'll see you on the other side

its 1am, i cant sleep. came here looking for some semblance of peace. played the games on and off as a kid with my brother but didnt seriously play them until recently as an adult. Sci fi, in general, has been a love of mine since middle school (im a college student) and while the main games are lovely, reach and odst just hit all the niches i love with sci fi games. reach taught me stories dont always have happy endings. odst taught me that even in the darkest of times there can still be light. im going through the darkest days of mg entire life. im sicker than ive ever been, im fighting a heart condition and a neuromuscular disorder thats killing my mobility, im struggling to adjust to new routines with having my service dog around. im fighting just to stay on top of school work and my job and all the little things are falling apart around me and there hasnt been a day in the last several months i havent had a panic attack or cried. Ive wished i was dead more than once. Its so hard and no one gives you a guidebook on how to get through. No one tells you how to manage it all. sci fi worlds help me forget. Theyre not...safer, but the beauty of the stars, the majesty of the unknown, of a story bigger than i am, it calls to me. I think im going to play odst again tomorrow. i miss my helljumpers. I could use some of their humor.

My girlfriend of 2 years and I just had to make the hard choice to separate. We weren't great for each other and should have ended it long ago. I'm super thankful for her and all the time we shared, but now I'm scared for the future and not very confident in my ability to meet someone new and move on. I'd appreciate anyones thoughts or prayers. I've found this video and its community to be very helpful recently. Stay real, yall.

I always come back to this because my older brother and I used to play this game when we grew up. It was the only time we didn't fight. We'd hide when our mom and dad did and just turn the really old tv on and play this game. The music always calmed us, and we became a real team. We would just explore the map and get lost along the way. We don't talk much now and I really miss those times. I listen to it sometimes at night now, and it's cool seeing a lot of people also come back to the music close to our childhoods.

I feel like I have the confidence to share my story since alot of other strong souls have done the same. I didn't play halo growing up but my friend urged me to play it during the lowest point of my life. I had lost alot of friends , I moved to a city where I knew no one and had trouble fitting in and my mother of 50 had just passed which had made me go kinda numb she was a single parent and did everything to raise me and my siblings. I wasn't convinced to give halo a try until my friend played this theme for me and it immediately hit me and put me into a feeling and mindset I had not felt up until that point it made me think about everything in my life mostly the bad but sparks of the good but mostly how things will never be the same. After I immediately got all the halos and played them as a way to distract myself and not focus on my life that had fallen apart. I played and beat every single one of them with my friend and even though I was late to the party it helped me alot through that darkness and was a form of comfort I didn't expect. Coming back now this theme hits deeper and while my life still isn't great this theme and the comfort of the games gave me the strength to keep going even when everything around is in flames (land in hell feet first if you will) but reading your guy's stories and not being the only one to go through hard times and have this and the games as comfort gives me drive to make best of life no matter how shitty it gets. All you guys are stronger than anyone will give you credit for and I'm honored to share this important memory/experience with you gentlemen.

I lost a piece of myself back then. I like to believe it’s frozen in time just playing this game with no concern of tomorrow. No fear of the consequences that lay dormant. No worry of pain and loss. Back still wound free and mind still unbroken. He could smile. He could enjoy life and all things life showed him. Never played the halo games as a child but they were my girlfriend favorites. She's now showing them to me and the late nights we spend together as she gushes about every little detail are incredible. I love her so much.

This soundtrack still makes me tear up all these years later. Growing up in less than optimal living conditions meant that sometimes the only thing that could keep my mind occupied was video games or music, and Halo offered both. Sometimes the only way out was through another universe, one where hope took precedent, one that told you that despite overwhelming odds stacked against you, it could be okay. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the lives saved. Thank you.

Reading the comments is almost like being Rookie again. You come here alone and see bits and pieces of other people’s stories. You get a very small but relatable glimpse into a strangers life and realize your not the first or the last to pass through here. So read the little memos and leave a broken dog tag in the dirt, someone else might need to read it. Recovering addict here, this soundtrack is one of the only things that brings me peace and lets me forget about using for a while. It reminds me of playing Halo with my dad as a little kid, and knowing that he was so happy to be playing a game with his son as a recovering addict himself gives me hope. Thank you, Halo.

Been listening to this video for a long time. It’s gotten me through nightmares and bad times where I couldn’t sleep or couldn’t think. Here I am a year later coming back to the same video. I’m deployed and I feel a bit nostalgic, Halo…will forever be my favorite. I cry and the pain is imbedded in my chest, I can barely breathe. Wow guys I didn’t think I’d ever comment on this video. I’ve been listening to this track for many years now anytime I need help sleeping. The nostalgia and pure beauty of this song paired with the rain make for a wombo combo that knocks my ass out without failure. I’m 21 years old, and am having a kid with my beautiful wife in one month. It hasn’t been easy on me, and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it’s been for her. We’ve been doing well, I got a good job programming radios, and her pregnancy has been going smooth. As we’ve been starting to prepare for our little guy, I find myself thinking about all the times people have doubted us. We have faced so much backlash, and have been battling negativity, and doubt from relatives, “friends” and strangers constantly. But we persevere! We are so excited to welcome our little dude into this beautiful life and to show him everything we know, so that one day he might do the same for his child. I wanted to share this with you guys because I know all of you have your own battles too. Anyways I’ve seen a lot of comments from our brothers under this video and I just wanted to share some thoughts with y’all. We all have battles in life, some big, some small. Each one builds us into the person we are today. Remember that just being here, is enough. Life is beautiful if you choose to see the beauty, like this little pocket of nostalgia for so many of our brothers. No sunshine... No cheer... I can't remember the last time a day has had me smiling with true sincerity. I don’t know if anyone’s gonna see this, but hearing those first few chords brought me to tears. Parents just moved out, other family members moved in, and I feel like I’m never good enough for the few good things I have in my life. I’m fresh off an ankle injury and I haven’t worked in months because of it, no gym either. I feel like a lazy piece of shit so often because of it. I have no idea what I want to do with my life, every option feels like a waste of time. I’m 19 and it just feels like there aren’t any good options for careers, and my only hobby is too expensive to do at an entry level job anyways. I just feel like no matter what I do I’m never going to be good enough for my girl or for my family. Idk if anyone’s going to read this or not, but thanks if you do.

I’m 14 so i missed the glory of halo but when i played it it was amazing and I’ve loved it so much and I also love hearing the story’s of the true veterans. And the music especially odst is amazing and sometimes I get overwhelmed with it all so I listen to it before I go to bed and it’s very calming. I love halo and its community.

Ive found myself here again, as I do many times over the years. Life has continued to be hard, and to be something that buckles my foundation. But im still alive despite it all; so I implore you my brothers to continue on as well. There is little mercy to be found in this life but every day we continue to draw breath is another miracle among the myriad of sadness we fight through to live. Keep going, never give up, as we are the pilots of our own destiny.

The wife and I moved from WV to TX at the end of '23. Our situation was dire brothers, but I thought about what it means to be an ODST, what it means to be a man. Your race, creed, ethnicity, sexual preference, gender matter not. The only thing that matters is that when they kick you down, you get back up and give them a reason to fear kicking you again. I love and believe in all of you. You can do this, stay strong brothers ❤

Finds this...suddenly flash back to 12years ago. I’m 22 years old, my family and I have just been evicted from our home. My friends family take me and my little brother in. My dad has to be homeless because they have no room for him. My dad makes me and my brother stay put with them so that way we can be safe and not out in the elements. I sleep in a recliner, while my brother sleeps on a fold out bed on the couch. One day my friend brings home ODST and we literally stay up all night playing. That night we were able to just forget everything about what had happened we just had fun taking turns and watching each other play. Flash forward years later. Im married and my brother will be soon. Me and my wife are at the local thrift store and I find a copy of ODST in their glass case. She asks me “Did you like this game?” And I look at her and say “This game is very important to me it helped me get through a really rough time in my life”. They only wanted $3 bucks for the game and I bought it without hesitation along with Halo Reach and Halo 1,2 and 3. As we were walking out and we sat in the car I just looked at the game for a moment, I remembered everything from back then and I looked at her and she said “I know you had it rough back then but....that’s not your life anymore. You did your best, you raised your brother at a young age and you did a great job. Now look at all you both have. Isn’t that great?” And you know what? Yeah it is pretty damn great. Don’t lose hope folks, don’t ever lose hope for a brighter day even when you’re lost in what seems to be an endless night.

The fact that most of us here have probably been in the same lobby and even fought each other many years ago is kinda scary

I saw a few people posting their ODST stories so here’s mine: I was born in the north and moved to London at a young age when my parents divorced, it was hard and I was too socially awkward to make any friends so I found sanctuary in games. I loved the solidarity of Fallout and Minecraft because it was familiar. and then ODST came along and it taught me that life is lonely but it doesn’t always have to be, I just had to find my squad. So I came out of my shell and met my best friend playing Firefight and then I bought Destiny on release because I’m a Bungie fan and on the very first week I met a girl in a strike, she’s my fiancé now. People say a lot of bad things about Bungie but I’m grateful for everything they’ve given me, a friend, a fiancé and my fellow ODST’s like you. I may not know you personally, but you’ll always be family to me. Edit: if anyone is interested in more of the story, we met on the first week of Destiny 1 but we didn’t get together until the Crimson Valor Valentine’s Day event so Valentine’s Day is our anniversary day. She is from Florida and I’m from England so it’s been a long and patience testing relationship but I couldn’t be more glad that I never gave up, we’re proof that long distance can work but it requires lots of patience and honesty between each other. I couldn’t be more happy and next year we’re getting married! I’ll be sure to upload a video of the wedding on my channel for everyone interested Edit 2: thank you everybody for your support and kind words! This is exactly why I love the ODST community, you’re all amazing Edit 3: bad new update :/ In January I found out from a friend that my fiancé had slept with three other men behind my back and I tried to repair the relationship but I just couldn’t sleep at night knowing what she did so I made the heart crushing choice to break up with her in late March. She messages me from time to time claiming she still loves me etc but I just can’t forgive her. Anyway I’m not doing as good as I was 11 months ago when I originally wrote this post but I’m surviving and thankful for all your kind words. I won’t lie and say that everything has been peachy keen since I last commented but there have been ups…there’s also been downs. I told myself a few years ago that the world will get better and the peace and tranquility we all knew would return. But it hasn’t. It’s gotten worse. Nothing has gotten better. Fighting, destruction, hate, fear, war, it’s becoming more and more common. I noticed I’m becoming more apathetic to it all and I don’t want to be. I want to care but I can’t. I’ve watched the kind acts of thousands be completely washed away and overshadowed by the actions of the rich and powerful few and I’m just tired. Tired of watching those who can make a difference make things worse. Tired of watching good people get screwed. Tired of feeling like the only one who can see that everything is wrong. What can I do in the grand scheme of things? Sometimes I wonder what I’m even doing here at all.

In my opinion, Reach and ODST are the two best Halo games. Because you the player are fighting a losing battle, always taking one step forward, two steps back. I know Halo is built on saving humanity, and epic space battles. But the depressing tone of these two games somehow makes them my favourite.

I remember. I would sleep in the basement of my grandmothers town house. It was always hot and a fly would be buzzing around in nothing but pitch black and silence. I would eventually drift to sleep. My grandmother would wake me up. Would make me breakfast. Eggs, bacon and sausage. Then my father would pick me up from his 12 hour shift job as a technical nurse. He would always have a tire look on his face, but he still had enough energy to pick me up. By now it would be 7:00. My dad and I arrived at the house. My dad then got an Xbox 360 brand new. It came with Forza Motorsport 6 and Halo 3 ODST. We got it hooked up to the tv and I loaded up ODST. I would be playing early in the morning while my dad is sleeping upstairs. I was playing in the living room. Whenever it was the nighttime part of ODST, i would always just sit there and listen to the music. My dad would sometimes play with me until he would fall asleep. This is the one thing I remember clearly from my childhood and god damn did I love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I used to play this game with my dad I used to play all the halos with him our favorite was reach. Recently my father left my family I haven’t spoken to him or seen him in over a year hearing this music brings tears to my eyes the soft jazz in the rain when I was a kid I never understood how peaceful this is until now. 3 am thinkin about my father and how I miss him and how we used to play together. Time moves on and we have to continue our fight and continue to live. The Lord has also blessed me with being able to come back to live with my mom to help her. God is so good. There will be a day where she passes away and I will look back on the time I was blessed with her and praise God.

This is my designated pick for night ambience or when I need to focus on something and need consistent background noise.
