Legendary drummer, Steve Smith shares stories from his early beginnings and about how he got into Konnakol (Konnakkol) in the late 90's/early 2000s. Steve has been collaborating with many Indian musicians as well as with western musicians playing in rock, jazz and fusion settings.
He shows compositions and exercises and talks about his original approach to the translation of the South Indian Rhythmic language to the drum set.

Love the conversations Asaf. Any chance you can dig up some non-drummers to talk about Konnakkol with? Have you heard of John McLaughlin? He's a really good guitar player who like Konnakkol. JK. Not kidding! Looking forward to listening to this. Thanks so much for good quarantine content.

Hi Paul and thanks for your feedback. This is a great idea in fact, I've got people such as pianist Vijay Iyer coming on the show in July. But you're right, its a good idea to interview players of different instruments!
