Alice Cooper is a legend, and I've seen many of his shows starting with his "Welcome To My Nightmare" tour in the 70's. Even though his stage persona is the quintessential bad guy, he is a devout Christian and the nicest guy you could meet (he credits Jesus for saving him from dying from alcoholism, and being faithful to his wife of 40 years). He does a lot for charity and has established urban centers for young disadvantaged kids to learn music and to help them stay out of trouble. Alice is the man!!!!
The nice thing about him, though, is he is a GENUINELY nice and kind man. He doesn't beat you over the head with his faith. and he's been very good to younger musicians who are anything but Christian!
I saw him a year ago and not only did he sound great but the theatrics were awesome, his wife and he were moving around the stage like they were 20 yrs old, amazing
For a fun time if you can find it give his radio show Alice At Night a listen. It’s a fun time with good music and stories from someone who was there and lived to tell the story.
Fun story: I sing in the choir at my church, and was really surprised when our youth minister posted something on a Sunday afternoon that said, "Who noticed Alice Cooper sitting in the congregation today?" :-o He was doing a concert that night in town, and attended our church that morning! Looked like any other person. So I've sung for Alice Cooper, without even realizing it!
Yep, Alice is a conservative Christian, and from what I hear a really nice guy. Doesn't do the drugs and alcohol that he used to way back in the day. But he can still rock.
Alice Cooper was my jam when I was in High School. He is considered a pioneer of shock rock and his stage show was known for pyrotechnics, guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, reptiles, baby dolls, and dueling swords. Other songs worth listening to are: Billion Dollar Babies; I'm Eighteen (this was my school's song for the senior class of 1976); School's Out; Teenage Lament; Poison; Welcome to My Nightmare; Desperado.
"All of them very different from what other bands have done" Weird opinion. You must not have listened to much music, other than radio tunes. You generic humans never cease to amaze me about how derpy you are.
I have also seen the Grateful Dead more times than you seen concerts. I also seen Bob Marley. I'm not a generic anything. I did listen to the radio, 8 tracks and albums. I have probably over 500 records. You messed with the wrong music lover. The fact is l forgot more than you will ever know.
This was the original Alice Cooper band from the early 70's - Alice Cooper (vocals), Michael Bruce (lead guitar), Neal Smith (drums), Dennis Dunaway (bass) & the late Glen Buxton (guitar)... Alice Cooper went solo in 1975 after the breakup of the original band; the man is 70+ years old & still records, tours and performs 'No more Mr. Nice Guy' in concert 🤘🤘🔥🔥😈 Megadeth did a great cover of 'No more Mr. Nice Guy' in 1989 🤘🤘 and their mainman Dave Mustaine calls Alice Cooper his godfather... Cooper's past struggles w/ alcohol made him reach out to other entertainers who were struggling w/ addiction, and Dave Mustaine was one of them.
The original band was bad ass and blew our minds when we saw them, in the early 70s no one had seen anything like his stage show and his band was one of the best and had the chops to bring his outrageous show to life. God Bless Alice Cooper!
I've been a big Alice Cooper fan since the early 70's. He is a rock legend and has so many excellent songs. He was the original shock rocker and got bad press and even banned from playing in a few countries just because of the press. So in this song he's kind of saying, " I'm a nice guy, but you all think I'm bad, so you haven't seen anything yet, No More Mr Nice Guy"!. He is a great writer and performer and has a great sense of humor. Here are a few other songs of his to check out, Schools Out, I'm Eighteen, Billion Dollar Babies, Poison, Under my Wheels. He has 50 years of great music and is still puts on one of the best rock shows there is and still puts out great albums. I have tickets to see him live in April!
I saw him perform back in the early 70's when his "Killer" album came out. He is known for his charitable work and I have a friend who knows him personally and she has nothing but good things to say about him!! Other songs are "Eighteen" and the "Ballad of Dwight Fry"!!
He still does a lot of charity work in Arizona. He puts kids from all races privlidged or not and allow them to be creative musically. God Bless Alice and his wife.
I saw Alice in 1979 and again in 2019, great show and great music. He is still touring and releasing records. Teenage Lament '74, Billion Dollar Babies, Cold Ethyl and so many more!
Drugs were never Alice Cooper's thing (just in case anybody's wondering), he was a major alcoholic and it almost killed him. Absolute legend at 73, still making music and still touring.
I've seen Alice Cooper in concert over 60 times and have tickets to see two more of his concerts this year. He is AMAZING live. His shows are part rock show and part monster show with theatrics. His current touring band is incredible live. If you haven't seen Alice in concert in the last 15 years, you haven't seen him at his best.
Last time of a dozen times he had Halestorm open for him, mind blowing sets from both bands then Lzzy came out to jam on Alice's encore of Schools Out, gave me wicked chills and just plain a rush seeing that entire group of musicians reach for rock and roll Nirvana!
I've always been a huge Alice Cooper fan. One of my favorite films is "Dazed and Confused" and they use this song to perfection in that movie! Love Alice Cooper and love that y'all are listening to him!
I've noticed that the third guy on the right is the only one that understands rhythm regardless of genre or musical stylings.Brad and Lex talk the most and know the least. Other dude talks the least and effin* gets it. That goes for all videos he's in. Word.
If you're going down the Alice Cooper rabbit hole you should check out: Welcome To My Nightmare, Only Women Bleed, School's Out, Cold Ethel, Devil's Food/The Black Widow (2 songs that are back to back), Poison, I Never Cry, Billion Dollar Babies, Under My Wheels, I'm Eighteen, Goes To Hell.
I saw him about six years ago in Manchester, he still dressed in a white suit and hat. One of my favourite track ' Poison' for some reason he didn't play. He is a devout Christian I used the do the collection at my local church , I wonder how much Vince would put in the box!!🤭🤩😃😁
It was a master stroke to do that final verse in the 'californian' beach boys / jan & dean style. Both bands in their time were seen as the nice guys of rock, with their blond hair, sun-tans and white teeth, with most of their songs about surfing and teenage romance. Alice Cooper on the other hand were for a long time seen as the darker, less desirable face of rock, but this song emphasizes that this is all a front, designed to shock, because that was what sells records: that was what the fans were expecting because THAT was what the music media designed. The image of Alice Cooper was one perpetuated by the media, then the fans, and finally accepted by the band themselves, because the media needed someone to despise, and the fans needed someone for society to despise. For goodness sake, even the media had named the vocalist 'Alice Cooper' years before, (The vocalist was originally Vince Furnier - the band was Alice Cooper,) in order to make him/them even more controversial.
@@72KingDavid My favorite is Paranormal Live at The Olympia. Its the most recent and features his current touring band plus his wife and eldest daughter, Calico, in the show. Brutally live is 20 years old at this point.
So much great Alice ….. dude still touring in his 70’s & not just getting through shows, but kickin’ ass just saw him a few months ago. Thanks for this one.
More Alice y'all need to hear are Teenage Lament '74, Muscle of Love, Is It My Body, Be My Lover, Billion Dollar Babies, Under My Wheels and so many more. Alice Cooper is a legend.
Not really getting the whole Alice Cooper experience without seeing his shtick. Saw him live for the first time a few years ago with Motley Crue. Never thought I wanted to see him live, I was wrong. He lives in Phoenix and a a legendary nice guy.
Alice had two outstanding albums that didn't get any air play. The first is an album about a nightmare he had called "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell" and the other is a true story about him going into a rehab facility called "On the inside". Both are on RU-vid. Check them out. Both outstanding! I think all his albums are on RU-vid.
Alice Cooper is one of the greatest , down to earth, hard working, serious people on earth. One of the MOST fascinating things about him, is he was really close friends, and golf buddies with Glen Campbell until Glenn death. He talks about it a little ,in a couple of different documentaries.
he was a friend of Groucho Marx and all sorts of legendary people... Alice tells the best stories about those people and that era from the early 70s to the end of the decade
Alice Cooper was revolutionary. One of the first shock rockers and he isstill going strong. An interesting fact: he was on the track team in high school (and one of the best in track) . He and some of his fellow track friends entered a talent show and lip syncd as a band. They won, loved doing it so they formed a band and learned to really play.
He was on the muppet show in the 70s! I remember seeing him when I was a kid. I liked “clones (we’re all)” from his 1980 flush the fashion album. Bought it when I was 13. It’s Hot Tonight is great too, from Lace & Whiskey. Billion Dollar Babies album…so many.
Idk what it is about this song, but everything from the sound engineering to the guitar tone to the melody has always spoke to me. Fucking love this song so much
Lex and Brad. Alice cooper is awesome live!!!! I saw them about 8 years ago. Alice cooper the singer does the same live performance as he did 40 years ago. He looks creepy but he is a gentleman!
@@drServitis heh, no. His real name was Vincent furnier. The name Alice Cooper (if you believe the band) came from a Ouija board. They asked it how they could become famous and it replied Vincent had to take my name. When they asked what name it answered Alice Cooper. Take it with a grain of salt because it certainly bolstered the creepy vibe of the band.
@@rick5908 I was going to continue with the Cooper name joke and the band using that name and it being yours too, then I saw your videos about your beloved wife and I don't feel like joking anymore. So very sorry for your loss. You clearly loved her dearly and she was a wonderful woman. I cannot imagine how it was and is for you to lose her. So very sorry for you.
Alice Cooper is FANTASTIC! I’ve missed one tour since 75. He is fun, horror, and killer music. He is kind and generous, comes from religious family, and plays golf daily.
The first time I saw Alice Cooper it was the original band June 11, 1971. Glass Harp played first. Cooper were the 2nd act on a 3 band set at The Fillmore East. The headliner was Bloodrock. Alice Cooper was on their Love ItTo Death tour. They blew the opening act off the stage with their “theatrical” show… straitjackets… guillotines.. and the song Eighteen that became their first hit…. Oh, and a great band.. I saw him a lot after that, Boston, Phoenix..
Cooper had such great songs. You should watch him in concert though, because he put on an amazing show. Everything from "Easy Action," to "Dead Babies" and "You Drive Me Nervous," or "Under My Wheels," to "Teenage Lament," "Muscle Of Love," all the way to "Crazy Little Child," Cooper had some great even iconic music. He's still touring today. Still using a guillotine in the show, although I don't think he hangs himself anymore. He does continue to get his head chopped off.
I went to 7 Alice Cooper concerts in the late 70s and early 80s. The shows were always amazing. His band changed lineups quite a bit but the music was always fantastic.
I saw this live for $9.89 in Boner Springs KS. I will never forget the absolute satisfactory pain of being "Magic Johnsoned" by Alice Cooper. During the song he was throwing canes to the crowd. At one point we lovked eyes and as he was about to throw it to me he blind passed it off to his right. Beautifully classic roast. I think I enjoy the memory more than I would the cane to be honest.
I've known Alice on and off since I was17(I'm now 68),and he's a really nice guy, actually. XD I used to take Christmas presents from online fans out to his house in Paradise Valley. I live in Phoenix,so it isnt even 20 miles from my place. The fans would send the presents to me and I would deliver them to him. He and his whole family, wife, kids, and his Mom are awesome people!
Schools Out was a staple back in the school daze..Alice is a great guy!! Nights with Alice Cooper great show and also helps/supports unsigned/independent bands/artists!!
I was a freshman in 1969 when AC played our high school in Windsor, Ontario across the river from Detroit. They were in the LA scene just getting started. They were crude but very promising because of Vincent Fournier, who most people still think was "Alice Cooper". Can't believe it's been 53 years! BTW, my buddies and I regard "Love it to Death" as their best album. School's Out and Billions Dollar Babies are great as well. Halo of Flies the best song!
Found this online…Cooper wrote this song about the reaction of friends and family toward his over-the-top stage persona. The maniac he plays on stage goes over well with his audiences, but the folks in his mother's church groups were unsure how to handle it and were uncomfortable talking about it. This song was the shock rocker's declaration that the "gloves are off," and he's no longer going to apologize for his wild-man stage antics, as there are many worse things that he could be doing with his life.
Yes! I requested it on their covers stream the other day but no luck. It was for the movie " Shocker " they did the song " go to hell " for Bill and Ted 2.
My favorite band. Dead Babies, Working up a Sweat, Elected, Halo of Flies, Billion Dollar Babies, Wish I Was Born in Beverly Hills, Serious.. A LONG career..and a great wife and family.
Definitely his stage persona.. (and sometimes offstage) was the hair and makeup.. but every time I've heard him talk in interviews he's very nice and polite.. yes he's on the edge entertainment wise.. but I think he's a smart sensible guy who's very successful.
Every time I hear this I think of the scene in Dazed and Confused. That whole soundtrack was killer. Good movie if you haven't seen it. Ton of stars when they were young.
Alice Cooper is always a great choice, he is a very deep rabbit hole to explore. His stuff in the early - mid 70s with the original Alice Cooper band is absolutely classic, and he helped invent shock rock and outlandish stage shows. You really should check him out live from that time frame, search for the official I'm Eighteen video, it will blow your mind. His work later on just added more great tunes to a huge catalog and his shows were so good, no matter who was in the band that I ended up seeing him at least a dozen times. Also try the Black Widow live, his version with Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on guitars is beyond belief. Enjoy! 🎸
Shock Rock n Roll royalty Alice is also part of Super Group Hollywood Vampires along with Johnny Depp, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, and Cooper's guitarist Tommy Henricksen from German band Warlock.
Great finally someone is playing some old classic Alice Cooper! This guy was a big deal when I was in high school. I know some people are going to disagree with me but I liked Alice Cooper with the original band. Once he split off on his own it was a little too corny and commercialized for my taste. The original band was great …had a great bass player and two lead guitars that would jam back-and-forth and the whole band wrote the music. But of course back in those days there were so many great bands out there it was easy to give up on one and go to another😂 million dollar babies and schools out albums were my favorite, I Remember on the schools out album it opened up like a school desk and inside the vinyl album was wrapped in a pair of panties😂 and then of course billion dollar babies album which this song is from open Ed up like a giant wallet and if I remember right, it had a giant bill in there with a picture of Alice Cooper instead of A president
Megadeth do a AWESOME cover from this...Alice Cooper is the Godfather (real) to Dave Mustaine from Megadeth. Alice look after too to Keanu Reeves when Keanu was a child!
His early stuff with the original "Alice Cooper Band" is his best. "Love it to Death", "Killer", "School's Out", and "Billion Dollar Babies" are all classic albums.
Great Alice Cooper song. If you wanna hear a "heavier" version of it. Megadeth did an AWESOME cover of it for the Shocker(Wes Craven horror movie) Soundtrack. \m/
Early Alice cooper with original line up is amazing. Got all their early albums. They had a very much punk aura about them and the music. My favourite song has to be ...eighteen...
He has a restaurant in Phoenix that he will randomly show up and sit in with whatever band is booked that night. He also puts together a huge celebrity packed variety type show for the sole purpose of raising money for local teens. It is named Alice Coopers Christmas Pudding. I've been to one and it is a fantastic night.
Vincent Fornier AKA Alice Cooper one of the best stage performers I've ever seen . If you have the chance to see him live do it you will not regret it.
I'm 18 was my experience for 1st time noticing him! I was 14 or 15. I am now almost 65 and Still love his band. R'N roll perfection. Unusual theatrical performances and make-up. Adds more to the entertainment value. Only Women Bleed is a softer cut unlike most of his shining 🎶. 🎸
It's hard to explain today how enormously, gigantically, phenomenally huge Alice Cooper was in the early to mid 70's. The first album didn't go any where, but once Love It To Death came out with the hit "I'm 18", the band just took off. That album, plus the next 3 or 4, helped to create the persona of this demented, sadistic, dangerous character called "Alice Cooper" that the kids loved and their parents hated. The songs acted as a window into Alice's weird life, adventures and neuroses, with a good dose of humor on the side.
If you grew up in the era this song was released it will be a part of your life until the day you die. Very few songs have an effect throughout your lifetime. But this is one of them.
Some more conservative elements of early 1970s UK society tried to ban him from coming to the UK, but he still came and was a huge success there. He hit the UK scene at the height of the UK's 'glam rock' era. He and his band started out very similar to Iggy Pop and the Stooges, some say he was influenced by Iggy, but what he added was a very theatrical side, to fantastic well written pop and rock songs. One of the first 'shock rockers'. He told a great story for a UK show about the top 10 all time glam rock artists. When he took the flight to the UK, he sat next to a little old lady, had a nice talk with her, she'd been travelling around the US. She asked Alice to tell the staff not to wake her up when the meal was served as she was tired and wanted to sleep. When the plane landed, they found out she was dead! The headlines in the UK newspapers said "Woman dies sitting next to Alice Cooper on plane!" What an intro to Britain. He said, if he'd thought about it, he should have put two small holes in her neck... :)
Alice Cooper had been my favorite band since I was about 12. After 33 years of listening to them, I still can’t get enough. There’s so much to discover and their creative genius is incredible.
He was in my opinion the Godfather of gothic and glam Rock. Before KISS and Bowie. Or maybe about the same time. He said once in an interview that there were no villains in Rock music, so he created Alice Cooper, the rest is history.
Him, Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Grand Funk Railroad, and the MC5 were the southeast/Detroit wave of rock back in the 70's. Detroit rocked so much even Kiss in which was from New York made a song called Detroit rock city.
Fun Fact he bought one of the "L" s in the Hollywood sign on the Hollywood Hills in memory of his former neighbor and friend Groucho Marx. When they were neighbors, Groucho suffered from insomnia and when he couldn't sleep, he'd call Alice, and Alice eould go over with a six pack of beer and they wouls drink beer and wtch old comedies and such until Groucho could fall asleep. After Groucho's death, the Hollywood sign was in disrepair and going to be torn down. A group got together and sold the letters to people to refurbish them. Thats when Alice bought one of the Ls in memory of his friend.
