they are everything the hall is suppose to be about, absolutely spectacular band that are also absolutely unique and individual and the creativity is suppose to take precedence over the mainstream success and popularity. but we are well past the point where very mediocre but successful bands keep going in while the really interesting bands with big loyal followings get ignored. i fond Cindi and Kate two of the most under rated vocalists of all time.

The vocal harmonies of Kate Pearson and Cindy Wilson are one of the defining sounds of the B-52s. Kate had the big hair and was playing keyboards. Cindy had the white dress on and joined the vocals mostly for harmonies. You've heard this and Rock Lobster, Time for Planet Claire.

Yes I agree, one of the best songs of the Eighties featuring Cindy's incredible powerhouse vocals, gives me shivers. Live The B-52's go all out, guns blazing to have fun, but musically I think they are incredibly creative & Arty. Just describing them as some sort of party novelty act is way off the mark. Just listen to 'Ain't It A Shame' featuring Cindy on vocals again, so heartfelt, one of the most beautiful songs ever.

I only heard their Wild Planet album because my brother had it when it was fairly new. "Private Idaho" is the only song I heard on the radio back then, but that was maybe a couple years later, and I didn't hear it often. It probably wasn't until the late 80's when I heard their first album. Can't recall if that was before or after Cosmic Thing was released. I remember hearing a profile of them on Brave New Waves, and shortly after that they were more popular than ever with "Love Shack" and "Roam".

"Like he was joking, but he was not joking." Oh, he was definitely joking! The big hair and retro '60s look was a big part of the B-52's image; they did it to be weird! They were a little bit punky, a little bit kitschy, and part of the Athens, Georgia sound that came out in the late '70s - early '80s. You would always hear some of their music at every college frat party, back in the day.
@jaynagerber7474
@jaynagerber7474 2 года назад
Well, considering they were part of the "College Radio" scene back in the day, that's no surprise at all. That label applied to some fun, quirky bands in the early to mid 80s which included them, R.E.M., They Might Be Giants, The The, and Violent Femmes (that I can remember, there's probably others that I can't); their music was very popular on various college radio stations throughout the U.S (which was kind of odd in a way, since none of these bands were anywhere close to the mainstream at the time, although B52s and R.E.M. did have commercial success in the late 80s and early 90s).

The B52's, out of Athens Georgia, were part of "the new wave" music scene, along with Blondie, Talking Heads, GoGos, and so many others that were a tad more musical and less serious than the contemporaneous punk movement... Yeah this whole John Ritter kind of goes down the new wave Alley the whole thing was to do the music that came before The Beatles cake house ideas of those sounds bring him back and put a Different Twist on it Diva was kind of the same thing although they're more like some sci-fi experiment that happened in the early sixties Elvis Costello was also in this wheelhouse when you think about it it's really an awesome thing because they took that old genre of music and expanded on it so it wasn't just lost to the dustbins of time these bands brought it back it was the totally brilliant idea and that worked and they created something really new and different with that retro Style

One thing about New Wave that drew me was the dark undertones, ominous messages accompanied with upbeat music, very strange. Interesting, and awesome

B52s are goofy but fun. Lol. New wave retro surf rock, punky rock. They were so unique. Good comparison to Cake and Beck. Odd, fun and goofy.

I still own their tapes. Love them. They’re so fun! Roam is so good too!! ‘Cosmic Thing’ is my favorite album of theirs.

The band is from Athens, GA, home to the University of Georgia where they were students when the band was formed. Don’t figure them out - they are just FUN. Also from this little college town: R.E.M., Widespread Panic, Drive-by Truckers, of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, Azure Ray, Pylon, the Glands, Vigilantes of Love, Vic Chesnutt, Reptar, Apples in Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Dead Confederate, John Barry, Ravenstone, Danger Mouse, Love Tractor, and so many more. Just an amazing little town that The NY Times said is the birthplace of indie music.

Love you guys!! The naive nature of your musical acumen is great! It's awesome seeing genuine reactions for the first time! Kate Pierson (the keyboard player) is a musical genius. Look it up dudes. Love your channel!!!

Simple music played so well. This band is in the pocket! Artistic and funny at the same time. Like satire.

This is the real artist take. All of their music is party dance new wave. Cindy Wilson & Kate Pierson have pipes. Those women can sing. ‘Give Me Back My Man’ is a great song with Cindy on lead vocals. when I saw her sing this live - she brought the house down. the most applause until the last song and 3 song encore. Fred Schneider is not your typical lead singer but he’s got kind of a science fiction nerd voice really suits there songs. He’s a great performer Plus (the late) Ricky Wilson on a guitar with only 4 strings for his unique sound. Keith Strickland on drums. He moved to guitar after Ricky’s death. Ricky & Cindy we’re brother & sister.

1980. Early new wave, over the top, wacky. Yes the girl in white was singing background the whole song.

Tongue n Cheek PERFORMANCE ART for Sure :-D IT makes a HUGE difference that you can see them perform for a better grasp of who they are as a band. Both females Sing lead in different songs. Cindy (in white) sings lead in BRING ME BACK MY MAN and she is BRILLIANT!

So happy to see you guys listening to this quirky and fun band. I like this better than Love Shack. Can you react to Quiche Lorraine by the B-52s in honor of my roomate who was in a band that covered this band? He died from brain cancer in his early 20's and he loved songs like this and Quiche Lorraine.

Love that you guys appreciate and dig all types of music. `52`s were nothing but fun and yet serious musicians. The female singers were out of this world.

New Wave was music by Baby Boomers who grew up listening to the radio and buying vinyl and going to concerts. They had appreciation for what had come before and weren't trying to make music that was entirely new of distinctly different. They put their own personalities into their art and saw every aspect of musical entertainment as something that could bring out their creativity and individual spark. They weren't afraid of being drafted and forced to fight an unconstitutional war and if a nuclear war happened wouldn't you be glad you had enjoyed your life?
