The B-52's Rock lobster was my second favorite song, 1979. My first song was Plante Clair 1978 greatest music. In all times, the sound of music changed the world. I was only 16 years old. From pomona California, my friends thought I was crazy to listen to this. Because I was a gang member. But this song changed my life & the way I was 😊😊
THIS is in my top 5 songs of all time! Never understood how Rock Lobster was more popular because this has a much more catchy beat and is a great dance tune. It's great for pushing a stereo system looking for weak spots. :) I had this blasting in my car late one night and hit a red light. A car load of young (I ain't no spring chicken) ladies had pulled up next to me and started honking the horn. I looked over and they were all be-bopping the car yelling, "What song is this? It's awesome!" and another group of B52s fans was born. :)
To be honest, as a guitarist, it's hard for me to decide which of Ricky's pieces fascinates me the most. Private Idaho is certainly one of the most influential. I find B52 Girls even more driving. Still… for more than 45 years now. Ricky is here! 🎸🎸🎸
In the 80s/90s I thought of them as a retro band because of their retro style which convinced me that their sound was retro as well...but no it isn't a retro sound at all! Just some really fun quirky spin on the new wave sound. Their music is a blast to listen to and puts me in a happy/perky mood.
No, Kate doesn't seem all too happy, but as she once said, she was wanting to kind of give off a Ron Mael of The Sparks kind of stage act back then. She was like that on much of their earliest stuff and then came out of it by '81 or so. And I saw them live in '82 or '83 when I was like 14, and she was actually the most entertaining up there on stage. I still love Kate. She is one of those really amazing souls that changes people's glow when she is around them.
She gives a sudden weird look off to the side of the camera at 3:38. The weird cut that comes directly after it makes me think the look was not at all intentional and was actually an epileptic seizure that they cut from the video after giving her time to recover and finish the rest of it. With a studio dubbing later covering the live audio on set it isn't surprising that cutting it cleanly was difficult due to syncing required. I say this because the look seems less intense than confused, and a guy I knew with regular epileptic fits sometimes had that far off look when he started a seizure.
I remember listening to a radio show late at night, in the UK, by probably one of the most "out there" DJs called John Peel. I first heard of big names like The Police, Ian Dury and The Blockheads, The Pretenders, and The B52s. If you wanted to know what was coming next in the world of music, he was the guy to listen to. I remember the first time that I heard Rock Lobster on that show and I loved it! That was my fav B52s track until I heard Private Idaho and that one is my fav until today :) I am a new subscriber to your channel and I really love it. I hope that all is well..please come back and react to the music I love...I really enjoy it :)
Don't anyone listening to this try and deny that when this started, they weren't doing the sound they were making in the beginning!!! we all were lol. definately a song that gets you moving
I've seen Dolly live 3 times not counting on television and she makes a point in every show of thanking the audience for coming to see her and spending their hard earned money. "Because it takes a lot of money to look this cheap!" 🤣
I love the B-Five-Twos, as my ex used to call them, and the 80s & 90s are pretty boss... BUT, it's MY youth, in the 60s & 70s that I crave! Is there a Boomer Rewind Cat???
First of all, how do you train yourself for the first twenty seconds of every clip? One take of breath! Phew! Even after so many years i have no idea if i like the voices or not. Music is smoking, but vocals are still....just like licking a nine volt battery. It is a weird sensation, but somehow you do it again. Saw them live and it was great fun to watch, but the vocals....
I remember seeing them do Planet Claire on Plymouth Hoe (UK) circa way to long ago. I can safely say as a died in the wool punk, they were the weirdest thing I ever saw perform....though Chumbawumba came close
ok..will subscribe..IF..react to sparks wonder woman..or green eyed lady..or maybe BTO..gimme your money plz..seems like your new age 80's..i like..and ty
If you are generation x...then this is a review...not a reaction. There's no way you can live through the time, and not know their work. You are a hot girl and probably listened to Journey,Bon Jovi and such....but the B52'S were pretty big and everyone liked them. Goths , stoners, jocks, metalheads... everyone liked the B52'S , ACDC and Van Halen. If you went to a multi clique party...those were the 3 bands that everyone would agree on
