Check out Robert Plant “Big Log”. It’s not what you think 😉Its really beautiful musically.
@SG-js2qn
@SG-js2qn 2 года назад
In his solo career, I always liked "Big Log" best, but this is a good one too. "Big Log" has the special guitar work, and it's a good driving song. :) Other hits from this period include "Little By Little," "In the Mood," and "Heaven Knows."
@peterwalsh2470

agreed "Big Log", would have been a better pick IMO
@SG-js2qn
@SG-js2qn 2 года назад
@@peterwalsh2470 I think reactors steer away from songs with funny titles. I've suggested "Big Log" for reactions on other channels and nobody does it. Same with "Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey." I can only guess they look at the funny titles and think they're being played.

Tall Cool One is for when you WANT him to sound like Zeppelin. Or more precisely, stick actual chunks of Zeppelin in the middle of the song he's singing.
@pebblehilllane
@pebblehilllane 2 года назад
@@HeavyTopspin - There most definitely is a 'taste' of Led Zeppelin in "Tall Cool One." Possibly that is one of the reasons I like it a bit better than other Robert Plant solo career songs. That 'taste' of Led Zeppelin was largely because Robert Plant brought Jimmy Page into the studio to play on the single “Tall Cool One.” That song sprinkled in samples of the guitar riffs in “Black Dog,” “Dazed and Confused,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “The Ocean,” and “Custard Pie” along with lyrics taken from “Black Dog” and “When the Levee Breaks” and with Jimmy Page playing it, it had a good bit of Zeppelin sound. Page & Plant .... always a great combination.

When I first heard this back in the day I had a similar reaction to Lex's. Following up from Zeppelin is not easy but Plant did it the right way, exploring his own sound not a Zeppelin redux. For many fans this might have been hard to take but this a very pretty and mellow song that still showcases his talent albeit in different way.

As the lead singer of one of the greatest rock and roll bands, Robert has a very recognizable voice. Since leaving Zeppelin, he has had an eclectic carrer but I do love many of his post-Zeppelin songs. I won't repeat what others have already mentioned but he has also collaborated with Alison Krauss on two LPs. Alison is a bluegrass singer and, until recently, was the female with the highest number of grammies. Please read the letter and Killing the Blues are fantastic songs from the first LP by Plant and Krauss.

I remember Robert Plant caught a lot of grief because, as a solo artist, he "didn't sound enough like Zepplin." His response to the criticism was that he didn't want to sound like Zepplin. He wanted to create a different sound. He succeeded with lots of good music. "In the Mood" is probably my favorite Robert Plant track.
@TheKitchenerLeslie
@TheKitchenerLeslie 2 года назад
He irked Jimmy Page saying stuff like that in the press, but he was ok with it. Then he had Jimmy come in to play on his latest album. After that was over, he played him some of the other songs, one of which was Tall Cool One. If you know that song, there are samples of about 5 heavy Led Zeppelin songs all over it. He said Jimmy stared off into the distance with a look of quiet wonder on his face as if thinking, "Is he taking the piss out of it?"
@evilfantasy69
@evilfantasy69 2 года назад
I saw him on this tour. He went as far as having two drummers (playing completely different drum kits). I'm not sure why but it felt right and created some amazing sounds. We bought the tickets last minute and ended up setting behind the stage off to the side with about 30-40 other people and it was actually a great view. Security didn't stop us so why not? We were like 30 feet away from the stage and our ticket seats were WAY in the back. At one point Plant turned around, pointed us out, and sang for over a minute to the people behind the stage. It was an awesome little acknowledgement.

In the Mood is such a cool song! It came out when I was a kid, but I didn't like it back then. Part of the reason was because the song's sound is vaguely eerie and creepy...and that kinda scared me as a kid lol! I love it now of course :)

Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin are my favorite band. His solo career was quite good and demonstrated that he was versatile and could cross genres. I loved Big Log, In the Mood, Sea of Love and Tall Cool One. Plant and Alison Kraus dominated the Grammy’s in 2009; such an unexpected pairing that was magical. Gone, Gone, Gone and Please Read the Letter are masterful. Recently, they did such a creative rendition of When the Levee Breaks. There is so much more to Robert in addition to Led Zeppelin; he never rested on his laurels and always wanted to innovate and look to the future.

All of the remaining artists of Led Zeppelin created very different music as solo artists. JP Jones put it best in an interview when he said that what made Zeppelin great was their differences. He said that they all has completely different record collections. Jimmy Page was influenced by Classical guitar and flamenco music, Robert by Celtic Folk and Elvis, Bonzo by Motown and Blues and JP himself by classical and Jazz. This was the basis of their unique greatness. See Robert's work with the "The Honeydrippers" and Pagey's with "The Firm" and JP's various solo works for further insight to their vary different styles. The Band Bad Company were protégés of Zeppelin and are very worth also reacting to also.

I've always loved this song. "Turn this boat around!" I find myself saying time and again, as our collective ship of fools does one ludibund thing after another. This is a more age-appropriate song for the old crooner. One of his best. Thank y'all.

This song had an influence on me as every time I see something that boggles my mind, this song will play in my head. Like when that trans MMA fighter broke the skull of another female MMA fighter, I thought this is nuts, I'm crazy on a ship of fools. Other than that, it's just a great song that reminds me of my teen years.

Once Robert dissolved Led Zep ( because Bohnam died ) he was determined to not repeat that style with his solo material. He def never went back to the heavy blues thing again. People have been crying (and offering millions !) since the 80s for Robert to do a Zep reunion and he refuses. A true artist.

...a band like Zeppelin can never exist again, too much has changed.... A MAJOR part of their popularity was their secrets. They didn't do many interviews, they didn't put their pictures on their albums, there was no MTV, internet or cell phones and they got ZERO radio airplay (at least until Zep 4) so they kept themselves "underground" , adding to their mystique. In addition they could NEVER get away with the things they did BITD. 14y/o girlfriends, drugs , crazy groupie sessions, Peter Grant (manager) dictating how things will be to concert promotors & music executives. Zeppelin could have only happened when it did. Robert is smart for not wanting to revisit it.

This tour was one of the greatest concerts I ever saw, it’s the closest I’ve ever got to see Zeppelin as this was the first tour Plant did with Zep tunes in the set list.

Unlike Led Zeppelin, who sounds timeless, this reeks of the early eighties. I was in my early teens then and this was played heavily. A lot of established bands stated to try to be punk ew wave and I look back and laugh. It didn't stop me from going to his first solo tour. He had some guy named Collins Phillips or something on select dates. Including the one in Philly at the old Spectrum.

You didn't have to wait years between L.D. and Plant's solo albums. Check out "Sixes and Sevens", "Too Loud", "Little By Little" or "Trouble Tour Money" off of his "Shaken 'N' Stirred" album.

Robert Plant also released a few songs under the band name "HONEYDRIPPERS". The songs are all covers of songs from the 50's. Just like "Ship Of Fools" none of the songs sound anything like LZ. There's only six songs on the original release, later another song (live recording) was added when remastered. You gotta listen to the originals "Rockin' At Midnight", "Sea Of Love", and "I Got A Woman".

Tripped out by this, check out Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Live (When the Levee Breaks, in Glastonbury 2022 ). Realize of course that Alison in a famed Bluegrass singer, and the two have collaborated numerous albums together, Where Bluegrass and Rock Collide. Good stuff, enjoy.

Plant knew he'd not be served well with a Zep redux.......Zep ended in 1980. This is an updated style.....lots of good music made still..... but more modern. Another one is 'In the Mood for a Melody' and another more rock is 'Big Log'

In 1984 I saw Robert Plant in concert performing his solo albums. The tour was promoting his album Now and Zen. It just happened to be that his drummer was Phil Collins. It became a very memorable show about 1 hour 20 minutes in when he said on the microphone "We'll be back in 10 minutes." During this time period in 1983/84 he also had put out another album called The Honeydrippers Volume 1 an older style Swing music sound. On my ticket it only mentions Robert Plant. The band came back after the 10 minute break then the fun starred, the Swing sound of the song "There's Good Rockin' at Midnight " Probably the most memorable concert I saw outside of Freddy and Queen in 1980. Check out the Honeydrippers the big hit "Sea Of Love"

Just for you, Lex. Robert Plant brings his Zeppelin DNA into the 8o's with his song TALL COOL ONE. He hyperventilates over drum loops, snapping fingers, pulsing rhythm and a squeeze of his old Zeppelin DNA. It is a welcome and delicious reminder of his former glory, updated and pushed forward. The album , NOW AND ZEN, is still in my cd rotation as it is still great to listen to on my Bose. The only song more satisfying to hear is BIG LOG. Enjoy.

Did Metal Church redo this song there way. If I'm wrong, Ship of fools is on The Dark. If u haven't listened to this album, you're missing out. 1 of the top 5 Singers in my opinion. Kind of a cross between Halford and King Diamond. He's dead now but give it a listen, u won't be disappointed.

He just loves exploring different musical sounds, but his voice is always unique, just a super talented genius! Give a listen to "Sea of Love" from his album with the Honeydrippers also different; Even though I think you should react to some of Robert Plant's songs from his debut album "Pictures at Eleven" closer to Led Zeppelin sound like "Burning Down One Side" with Phil Collins on the drums, and "Like I've Never Been Gone" and "Slow Dancer".

Plant is having a long creative solo career. Probably 40+ years solo vs 11-12 with Zep. Ranging from old rock n roll with Honey drippers, the Alison Krauss stuff, World and Moraccan influenced stuff, really all over the place so hard to recommend specifics. Maybe try Shine It All Around (sort of kind of Zeppish ) or All the Kings Horses from Mighty Rearranger. Big Log or In the mood were hits from early in solo career.
