I’ve noticed the comparison. “Up all night” has the same melody and timing as “Back to life”. The similar vowel sounds also help draw the parallel. I doubt one was inspired by the other though, especially since Back To Life was released in ‘89 and Up All Night in ‘90.

I’ve been listening to this and “Back to life” by Soul to Soul since I was a teenager in the 80’s- (Plus all the other greats we had-always will listen to them) Never made the connection til Lex mentioned it. Now I can kinda hear what she’s referring to..

I was in Kingman Arizona for a few months as a younger man. When I finally made some "cool friends", they took me out to their outdoor party spot for some drinking and smoking. They said we were going out to "the slaughterhouse". After about the 3rd time at this place, I asked them where the slaughterhouse was they kept referring to. They pointed to a residential property...a home...and said "there". Turns out, it wasnt a place where animals were killed...it was the home of this band's singer's family. Mark Slaughter had grown up there and his family still lived there. It was the Slaughter House.

RIP to guitarist Tim Kelly who was killed by a drunk driver back in the 90s and was a great guitarist. Slaughter was never the same after his passing.

The song at the end was America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee) written by Samuel Francis Smith in 1831. Regarding Slaughter, the year was 1989, the height of hair bands. Slaughter, Warrant, Winger and so many others were popular with the high school kids (myself included). We had a local radio station that played constant hair band music, the stuff that was popular and just coming out. At that time there was a lot of great music, but when grunge came out in the early 90's, it all but killed hair band music for a couple decades. It is still popular to us and always will be.

Mark Slaughter stole my hat and gave it to someone else. 😅 When the band was signing autographs behind a barrier near the stage, I handed Mark my hat (baseball cap), and he signed it, then looked directly at me and handed it to someone who was around the corner of the barrier who I had no way of getting to. Kind of hurt at the time, but now it's just funny to remember it. 🤣

We we're invaded by a thousand "hair bands" in the late eighties and early nineties. Marc Slaughter {lead vocalist/guitarist} and his former band mate Dana Strum {bassist} from the group Vinnie Vincent Invasion spawned and hatched a new glam rock group, simply named "Slaughter", in Las Vegas 1990.

At the end of the song, the fade out is from before cable and 24 hour TV, the 3 channels we had ended broadcast and waved the flag, playing America the Beautiful or Star-Spangled Banner to end the night.... Up all night and you'd hear it lol

Mark Slaughter (lead vocals) was first enlisted in the 80's as the singer of Vinnie Vincent Invasion on their 2nd album 'All systems go' alongside Dana Strum (bass) and former Kiss lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent... However, Vincent was an erratic character in Kiss... which led to his sacking in 1984... and he was erratic w/ Vinnie Vincent Invasion as well... Their label dropped him, but re-signed Mark Slaugther and Dana Strum, re-naming the band Slaughter and hiring Tim Kelly (guitar) and Blas Elias (drums). Slaughter's 1990 debut album 'Stick it to ya' went platinum and the band was a success, releasing a 2nd album 'The wild life' in 1992. Unfortunately, 90's grunge and alternative rock hit the band's popularity hard and Slaughter was forced to change labels and released 3rd album 'Fear no evil' in 1995... and 'Revolution' in 1997. Both records sold poorly. Tragedy hit Slaughter in 1998 when guitarist Tim Kelly was killed in an auto accident (R.I.P.) Jeff Blando (guitar) joined in '98 for the last Slaughter album 'Back to reality' in 1999. Slaughter has toured, but not released any new music since... Jeff Blando and Dana Strum both play in Motley Crue vocalist Vince Neil's solo band.

Hey Lex, if anything Slaughter was inspired by Soul II Soul as "Back to Life" was released in May of 1989, and "Up all Night" was released nearly a year later in April of 1990. Personally, I had never made the connection of the two tracks, though I know both very well... Good ear!

Saw Slaughter and Ugly Kid Joe open for Ozzy in Sacramento CA for Ozzy's No More Tears tour. Mark Slaughter was a real pretty boy and a lot of young girls with boyfriends in tow pressed up to the stage. Ugly Kid Joe was on first and their lead singer Whitfield Crane saw an ocean of young teen girls right up front and immediately launched into a mosh pit inducing Madman in Disneyland. In short order there was a general flow of bruised kids streaming away from the stage.

Slaughter was one of my favorite bands in my teens!! Loved and still love this song! They were great in concert even when I saw them live in 2005!! I went to see them in a large bar venue and got to be in the front and got one of Mark's guitar picks he threw to me. it was so exciting even in my 30's! I felt like I was back in my teens and starstruck. Fly to the Angels was a song my husband and I listened to a lot after one of sons passed away. Sadly, he is now gone too and my children and I love the song still and I think of him and my son in heaven. Great reaction!!

Lex, that "Back To Life" comparison - these 2 hooks are also reminiscent of the main guitar riff in Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water". It's those first 3 notes, a I-III-VI progression.

Yeah these guys are from Las Vegas now they're based out of Tennessee somewhere the lead singer is Mark slaughter and this guy has one of the purest most beautiful voices you will hear live from anybody singing hard rock or metal I don't know if they still do hard rock or metal but I think they're in Nashville yeah this wouldn't fly to the angels is another great song off of that that album

This "Band" was just a product of the industry putting together what they thought would sell and main steam (M TV) ate it up. Metal heads thought they where a joke commonly called posers but the first album sold well and so did there concerts but innless you were a 17 year old "rock chick" going to see the pretty boy "Rockers" or 15 year boy going to see the 17 rock chicks no one would ever admit to buying a ticket to one of their shows. They were pretty much on the same level as Winger.

In my playlist right now-our crew listened to this a lot back in the day- I had a beach T-shirt that said “Up all night, party all day” on the front- A guy that was quite interested in me got it for his sister but gave it to me cuz I liked it.😁 What’s bad is I was already “friend zoning” him all the time and he wouldn’t give up! 5 years and other girls later.. he “won!” And I was like.. “I waited this long!” Duh😫and then I was in love with him!😍. Its just..I had had this other guy I had been in an up and down relationship with for a few years..and NOBODY could replace him until finally… Anyway songs bring many memories!.. I’ve got tons! So just thought I’d share a bit..🤷🏻‍♀️🙂✨

I was a thrasher metalhead teenager when this came out. I learned a ton of hair metal on guitar for my high school sweetheart. Shortly before the lockdowns she posted videos of her and her high school friends attending a Slaughter concert...In a year that starts with a 2. Amazing what endures.

This album was my first CD. Before I even had a CD player. Used to take it to the library to listen to it with headphones. Fun fact: the bass player for Slaughter recommended Randy Rhodes to Ozzy for a guitar player for Ozzys first album.
