This song hit number one on the charts in 1977. It was during this period that Stevie Wonder was sweeping just about every Grammy Award for which he was nominated, year after year after year after year. Finally, after he'd won seemingly every Grammy Award there was to win for like four or five years in a row, he finally didn't release an album one year, and whoever it was that won the award got up at the podium to accept their award for Best Album and said, "I want to thank Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album this year." It was hilarious. He was about as hot as an artist can get in the music business for about five years in the '70s.

I was 12 when this song came out in 1977. I can vividly remember listening to CKLW-Am Detroit/Windsor on my little 7UP can transistor radio in my grandmother's back yard. It was summer, she, my 7 year old sister and I were picking plums off the tree near the back fence while her white German shepherd dog ran around us. Those were great days. It's so cool that a song can take us back in time so easily.

I'm just amazed how they never seem intrigued enough to find out what a reference, a phrase or word, or in this case names mean in a song. Especially when it's so easy to find out! It reminds me of asking a younger worker at a store, where something is located, and they shrug their shoulders and say "I don't know" as they don't miss a step as they walk by me. It doesn't even occur to them to go find out or ask someone else to show them.
@rsw1227
@rsw1227 2 года назад
@gigi v I've seen many other reactors stop and Google something. One even called his grandma! I'm sure it has something to do with that the channel benefits from having a lot of comments. The fact that they guess a song's meaning (which is usually wrong) and then ask for comments doesn't make sense to me. It would be funny to see their reaction to their interpretation vs the actual meaning. To me it just seems disingenuous.

Brad and Lex, if you're really serious about listening to and experiencing popular music throughout the years, this song is naming names you want to be familiar with. After all, these are the artists and musicians that influenced the performers of early rock and today. And there are sooo many more. Every decade has it's hitmakers and influencers. Take note, look them up, enlighten yourselves and you'll enjoy the music much much more. Too often I hear from you both "I don't know" and it's NOT coming from your outro. I appreciate your reactions and think it's great that you're checking out old music, but you're just scratching the surface. There's so much more to know, understand and experience. Good luck and may God bless.

Love your enthusiasm Lex. I love that sound as well. In fact, I started playing trumpet in public school in 4th grade and played it all the way until I graduated high school. I was first chair most of the time except for sometimes being demoted for a week due to pulling a prank on someone or something. But at any rate in high school, this song was so popular we learned it in marching band. And I loved playing this trumpet part so much I can't tell you. I mean I love the song as well and I already loved Stevie Wonder back then but and I didn't like marching band very much but I did love playing that. I believe we also played it in pep band or Stage Band. I mean I could pick up my trumpet today and still play that note for note, it just feels so good. If you haven't covered them yet, another fantastic one from around then is called I wish, man that thing is funky. But he's got so much good stuff, Signed Sealed Delivered from his early days of course but, I really really really really love his early 70s hit that I heard on the radio when I was in grade school, Boogie on reggae women. He's slurring his words like he's drunk but it's not, it's just a weird texture with very funky multiple layers of bass and synthesizer and it's kind of poignant, because he's talking about how he wished he could see these women dancing naked under the moon above, or in a different verse, just seeing two people truly fall deeply in love. And he's blind. So instead he makes this incredibly fun and contagious song. Here is a link to it. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6XauJUkYrso.html
