Thin Lizzy is one of the most underrated bands in rock history. They pioneered the 2 guitar sound that so many bands today used, and even the older guys like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.

Thin Lizzy has this vibe that's both laidback and badass at the same time. Like AC/DC is the kind of rock that makes you think of guys that will come into a bar, shotgun a bunch of beers, make a bunch of noise and take over the place. Where as Thin Lizzy makes me think of the kind of guys that are going to go sit in the back of the bar, smoke their cigarettes and just be rather inconspicuous. But if shit goes down in that bar, they're going to be the ones to end it.

One of the best things that can be said about a riff like the hook in "Jailbreak" is that it's "simple". The beautiful thing about a riff like that is that whilst it glides by seemingly effortlessly when you listen to it, it's actually quite a challenge to actually play correctly. Add Phil's "lead bass" style of playing and the sound is unmistakable. One of the greatest Irish pub bands ever. And their hay-day they could sell out 15K arenas on a weeknight 💯🤘

Thin Lizzy defined a sound and style that influenced just about every British rock band that followed them, as well as a great many European ones, and some of the biggest American acts of the 1980's. Thin Lizzy was huge overseas in Europe during the '70s and early '80s. They were from Ireland. Had a good following here in the US as well, but somewhat underrated here in the States like another band U.F.O. (unfortunately). A lot of it had to do with the concert tourings and promotions back then I believe. They did tour here in the States, but also many of their concert were cancelled or postponed due to the bands wild lifestyle (bar fights, drug use, heavy drinking, legal issues, bad luck, illness/hospitals, etc). So they were inconsistent on the US concert tourings. But, their songs were still on the radio station and records were sold. They were a hard rock, early metal type band also a little funky at times. Also a lot of Irish folk music in some of their songs. . Very popular and influential. '70s wasn't all just disco lol. Thin Lizzy inspired many metal and hard rock bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, White Reaper Foo Fighters Bruce Springsteen, Cheap Trick, etc. Especially with the twin lead guitars sounds, harmonies, and guitar solos. Check out their other songs like "Boys are Back in Town", "Cowboy Song", "Angel of Death", "Chinatown", "Emerald", "Opium Trail", "Soldier of Fortune", "Opium Trail" , "Emerald", "Rocker", "Whiskey in the Jar" (Metallica covered this), "Black Boys on the Corner", "Dancing in the Moonlight", "Killer on the Loose", "Cold Sweat", and many others, etc. Phil Lynott (RIP) was a great bass guitar player and singer. Unique cool voice and song writer, very soulful, smooth and strong voice. Thick Irish accent, too. He was mixed race half Irish (mom) and half Afro-Caribbean (father). handsome guy with a lot of swagger. Very smart, charismatic, well spoken, etc. The women loved him lol. Very sad he passed away so young in his late '30s back in 1986. Pneumonia, sepsis blood infection from drug use. Mother and wife, kids were about to take him to the hospital during New Years Day weekend. I believe it was too late. They tried to cool him off in a bathtub with ice. Had a high fever, was still conscious and talking. But, did take him to a hospital where he was on a ventilator after getting worse. This was back in the '80s. Who knows, with modern medicine and equipment, he might have still been alive. He was trying to kick the H habit, but I think he relapsed. Very unfortunate. They worship Phil and his mother in Ireland! Huge funeral turn out (hundreds nearly a thousand attended), bronze statue of Phil downtown Dublin, Ireland, mother always interviewed, visited and on TV. And music still played everywhere and on movies. They were almost inducted to Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, but they keep missing the cut. Some day they will get in, in my opinion.

You should react to the song Out in the Fields by these two cats. Just awesome. Gary Moore went on to a great blues career later before he passed.

Thin Lizzy was way bigger in Europe than they ever were in the States. You should here Emerald from this same album

The drums are killer in this song.

I love the drumming in this tune. Songs like this which have groovy breaks in the other instruments allow the drums to shine a bit more, and they put it to damn good use on this one.

Great band that bridged the gap between the late 60"s and early 70's hard rock bands and bands like Iron maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica.

Very influential and respected among musicians. You have good taste. Kind of hear where they influenced ACDC in this one.

This band was soo cool back in the day. Of course everyone was shocked to see the lead singer was black! How many black Irish rockers are there back in the 70's haha. kind of a reverse of some other bands who sound black. These guys freaken ROCK OUT! Phil Lynott is a freaken legend !!!!

I think the unique sound stems from the writing of songs were written around the bass versus the guitar as lead. Phil Lynott was the lead vocalist plus the bassist so I think the focus of the band and the songs were around him.
