Robs such a bad ass guitarist and a really good teacher. Somebody who can shred and jam still knows how to slow things down and explain very clearly for any beginner to learn. Thanks Rob. Keep it up man!
Absolutely! I hope people notice me tapping my foot the whole time too, which I forgot to mention. Its an extremely important time keeper that's harder to do than one would think. 🤘
Awesome man! It's a George Lynch custom, that I had customized to suit my needs. If you want to hear and see more about it, check out this video 👉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gDqWOg1D0DI.html Cheers!
Good stuff. You're as good at guitar teaching as you were at making killer Chimaira riffs! I'm a long time fan but still a novice at the guitar so it's good to see some fundamental exercises. Hope to see more vids like this!
Thanks for the routine 👊🏻 I've been doing this one and your "improve your picking" routine for the last couple of days and already a huge improvement Won't stop until it's all clean and on point
This is what I need . Because believe it or not I play cleaner and smoother speed picking instead of moderate speed . I appreciate your help and look forward to seeing more . Thanks
Might i say your channel is becoming a hub of awesome guitar stuff, rigs, playthroughs, interviews, q and a's, lessons and tips. Keep at it man, makes my guitar nerd heart happy
Thanks for this vid. Work's going crazy now and I can hardly find time to play so I'm putting together a short routine just to try to maintain the basics. This is perfect because it combines so many techniques and rhythms in a compressed time frame.
Thank you very much! I've practiced this today, it's really great! I love how it progresses from very early beginner stages to something an intermediate player should master. Also it's great as a warmup routine. And the format is really really killer, because it's not only one or two separate licks or riffs, it's a straightforward and dumbproof little program you really can do daily. So thank you again and please do an intermediate player follow-up, it's huge help to us! Just please keep the difficulty level under control, going up smoothly from last bits of that video to the next, and throughout the new one!
Sick ass guitarist so glad I got to see chimaira live I left after you guys played. Trivium were headlining and I fucking love trivium but they weren't gonna top you live that night.
if he used an 81, it wouldve been more challenging to hear the dynamics in the way your hands control the sound of the guitar. too much compression not to mention you dont have to work very hard to get clean pinch harms with the actives either. if you really want to examine your playing, you have to use passives. Actives really mask a lot of unwanted sounds, and can mask whether your technique is spot on or not. it doesnt happen as badly in the new Fishman Fluence active pickups, but its still there. I learned just how lazy a player I was technique wise when I converted everything over to Lundgren Black Heavens. I encourage everyone to at least TRAIN on passives, so that when you do end up using actives when you perform, you can really benefit from "clean" playing
Very cool video once again Rob. Lets of great points for people to learn. As you know it's most Important to tune your guitar first, before you start playing. Drop D tuning you should do your next video about all the types of tuning for learners to get started with.
My son just picked up the guitar and he is struggling. He is learning all about music in school band playing sax. It isn't translating well for him when he's on guitar though. I think this vid is exactly what he needs so thank you.
Excellent! You hear all those stories about legends starting on one instrument, and then finding the guitar, and then eventually becoming that legend! (Dime, Eddie, etc). Hopefully your boy is next!🤘
"Come back to it every day" ? Dude, you really think I have the time ???? Wait, I forgot... In a lockdown, here... OK OK, I've got spare time :) Sounds catchy and groovy :) is that a way to tease a new Disaster song ? ;)
Ha! I actually considered putting the new Disaster track in there somewhere, but didn't. But as one of my Patrons Herve, I will be personally sending you the the new track any day now! Stay tuned!👊
Riffage 101 ... kick ass man . Thanks and rock on 🤘🎸 Definitely do more and ramp up the difficulty dude , show all those sick ass techniques. Personally I would love your input on building speed after a wrist injury/ surgery where some flexibility was lost . Left hand of corse
@@RobArnoldWorld hey man, still waiting on this new guitar BUT after watching this and having a diddle on my 7 string, turned my mucking around into abit of a song, if you have time (and feel like you want to) I just uploaded a video onto my page, I'd be keen on feedback on how I can make my riffs better, but even if you give it a listen that'd make my day, cheers again, still looking forward to more
Cool man, I remember sitting in my basement for hours doing shit like this (25 years ago cough) just to get a good clear palm mute and chug sound. Same idea on the acoustic where I'd spend hours just practicing variations of strumming. This is something I find overlooked when first starting out but extremely important if you want to sound good. I would also practice rolling my palm on the bridge and experimenting with the different sounds I'd get from it as even that varies with good players. Good to see this being brought up dude.
Right on Nate! And I agree about the acoustic! If you can sound good clean or on an acoustic, you can sound good on electric no problem! Have you seen this? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o0BIYn3QVvo.html 🎸🤘
Definitely more of a drummer than a guitar player, but as I've mentioned on past videos, The Impossibility of Reason was absolutely essential in helping me pick guitar up and understand the fundamentals. I'll have to give this lesson a try when I have access to more guitars. Also, this guitar has a very interesting tonal quality to it, not sure if its just the contrast from your other ESPs I'm used to hearing but I love the sound of it. Would love to hear it clean.
Cool! And I agree that there's something about this guitar! Spanning quite a spectrum, I used it on both Six Feet Under's Undead, and The Disaster's Healing Process. Two completely different sounding records!
Cool vid Rob. I remember you showing this guitar when you did the guitar walkthrough of you *keep at home during Quarantine* rundown, and I was curious how it sounded. Sounds killer. FYI; I love the control/knob layout/single pickup setup you have on all of your guitars. I get my guitars done the same way. Drives me absolutely insane when manufacturers put the volume knob RIGHT in the way of the picking hand. It has baffled me for years, so to see I'm not the only one makes me feel a little less crazy. Sick riffage, great info. Appreciate you taking the time to do these 🤘
Cool man! Have you heard my Disaster record? I recorded the whole record on this the GL-56 you mentioned. Check it out! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nzyJbkzvdKk.html
I listened to some of it. Not what I expected, but in a good way. Definitely reminded me of some of the 90’s stuff I grew up with, you don’t really here this kind of music anymore . I dig the melodies, and the drum sound is absolutely killer. I think I’ll pick up a copy. You guys did a great job 🤘
Great feature Rob, nice work!!! Are you going to do The Heart Of It All playthrough, on some of your next videos? It is one of my favourite instrumental songs. Love your content. 💪💪💪
Sup Rob, when you do another play through, I suggest Malignant from the self titled deluxe. One of my favorite Chimaira songs. Keep uploading and kicking ass man
Hey man this is great I have been doing it for weeks. I am new about 4 months in on my guitar journey. I just cant get the faster picking down I can do the motions but I think actually picking is hard like I keep getting stuck on the string .
Practice makes perfect! Keep at it bro! I'll plan to release a new video on picking technique sometime soon here, and it will be easier than this Learn To Riff video, but more effective! Stay tuned!🎸
Removed the neck pickup and tone knob, moved the volume to tone position, new pickgaurd, and recently switched to a Duncan JB. Check out this video to hear all about it! 👉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gDqWOg1D0DI.html
Thanks man! Unfortunately I don't think so, but I do have this one, which is a great exercise to master. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XTNqu1kkPkU.html I'm in drop C, but the exercise can be played in any tuning! Plus there are backing tracks, so you can play along no matter what you're tuned to!
I'll consider it! In the meantime, as I mentioned in the description, the TAB and track is available to my patrons for download at www.patreon.com/RobArnoldWorld No pressure though... I know times are tough. Cheers!🤘
You never said that to be able to get that tight with your playing you will also need a noise gate to stop the string feedback when you mute them? Or at least you need a decent pickup installed in your guitar to help with that?
Ahh.. but check this out... I feel like I learned to play tight LONG before I ever even knew what a noise gate was. To prove your point though, I would say you need a noise gate IF you're playing with a super high gain amplifier! I also feel like pickups have nothing to do with tight playing. Pickups, noise gates, scale lengths, amps, etc., are all things one should think about AFTER they learn to play clean. 🎸 You can't fight like a ninja just because you have a ninja sword. 🤘
Hi Rob, love the channel & very informative. I own a few custom & signature series ESP's but I don't have a strat style guitar though, like most i enjoy playing metal & rock. Why do you love the modern strat shape guitars from ESP as opposed to a vintage fender? Is the construction, feel and tone of the guitar comparable to a vintage fender(if you've played any) or is the ESP versions a "repurposed strat" with the characteristics of a M or KH guitar?
Yo man! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you're liking what you're seeing! Check out my video from a couple weeks ago where I explain a ton about the guitar in question! 🤘 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gDqWOg1D0DI.html
Is that your Six Feet Under guitar? I liked this video it was cool, can you do one that is more like in a standard 1/2 step down tuning? Drop D is cool but I think when you use it a lot it loses its heaviness. Kind of like how Pantera only used it once in awhile for that extra heaviness.
Yes it is... Check out My Desert Island Guitars video if you want to hear more about it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iC7jgOOxxck.html
Hi man, big fan of your music and love your stuff. I have a couple of questions. Would you ever get into the Producing, mixing, engineering or mastering business, maybe in the future? What's your advice to someone like myself who can play guitar well, has a really deep passion for music but can't seem to find band members? And what do you think is the most important thing about trying to achieve that unique, personal, signiture guitar sound? Hope your keeping well!
Cool Scotty! These are some good questions for my Everything You Love Show. And in the meantime, I recommend you go back and watch at least the first few episodes!
@@RobArnoldWorld just a personal question for the comments, I bought a js11 dinky and I was going to put a emg 81 on the bridge, do you think it's worth spending £100 on a £150 Guitar?
super interesting, I started back playing after years and I'm quite a novice. One question, if we train sitting on a chair will it be harder to play standing? I currently find it harder
Thanks man! I'm just very meticulous about how everything sounds. If there's a hum or some noise I don't like, I will hunt it down and eliminate it at whatever cost!
@@RobArnoldWorld Yea same. You don't happen to know a neat trick or device to help detect where those interferences are coming from? Otherwise I'd have to walk around the house with a plugged guitar and point the pickups in random directions hoping to find the source of the humming.
I haven't tried the GT-1000. I had an old Boss GT-6 back in the day though! Finally gave up chewing a few years ago. But if there were no consequences, I'd stuff an entire can in my lip right now if I could!
