I used to gig with keyboards like this and in my hands they sounded about what you expect for a couple hundred dollars. In Stu's hands it sounds almost as good as something in $800-900 range

I will certainly share that compliment with Stu! He definitely has a unique ability to make any piano or keyboard sound like a concert grand!

This is like Shakespeare reviewing a Harry Potter book lol The E-X10 reminds me of a Casio I had growing up in the 80s - it proved to be a great entry into keyboard playing and good fun too. I think a local church still has it, even though it's over 30 years old.

I think I still prefer the sounds of the low end PSRs and probably the higher end Casios. If Stu can't convince me on a keyboard's sound, noone can!

Honestly doesn't sound bad and I like the inputs/outputs. I might get annoyed having to punch in every tone number rather than scroll or turn through, but still considering it for the price.

If you get one, LMK if you like the LCD display. The one I just got at Costco lacks contrast & very viewing angle dependent. Otherwise it is great for the grandkids (pests) when they come over.

You might be interested to make a review on the new kids in the town: Roland Go:Keys 3 and Roland Go:Keys 5 Both have the Zen Core roland sound engine which has truly up-to-date sounds that we can hear in today's top hits (unlike some competing keyboards with their decent, but oldschool-ish sounds). Both has a pitch wheel which is kind of unheard of in an entry level keyboard, especially at the price of the Go:Keys 3. The Roland Go:Keys 5 also has 1/4 inch L/Mono + Right Outs, and it even has Mic In. These are just a few of their good sides that popped into my mind right now, their bad side include not great playability due to their not great quality keybed, they seem to be decent for some less dynamic sounds though. (PS. I have no idea why they call them 3 and 5 though..)

Here in Singapore the Roland distributor is really aggressive with pricing. For example the E-X20 is cheaper here than the E-X10 in Australia. In fact the E-X20 is even cheaper than the Casio CT-S400.

@@MerriamPianosit cost me $5500.00 AUD. Not cheap. I’m sorry, as a pianist of level, I’m well aware of the different touches on these keyboards. I know it’s certainly not weighted ( I also have Kawai RX6 grand and a Roland HP digital, which interestingly has a very nice weighted action.) I prefer the keyboard ( non weighted) touch of Roland. The Korg is really not good. You need to hit the key right at the front of it, the spring is too strong . Just my observations.

@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos 3 месяца назад
Hi there! It really depends on what the intended use is. If you're looking for an instrument to introduce your child to piano playing, the Go Key would be the ideal option. However, if you are looking to expose your child to things like music production, arrangement, and composition, the additional features of the E-X10 might be the preferences. Thanks and hope this helps! :)

When will Roland realise that the discontinued EP760 was a gem. Plenty of power in the speakers, and basic but decent sounds. Roland should know how many EP760s were sold, and now need replacement
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos Год назад
The EP760 was definitely an interesting offering from Roland that was very rich in features for its size and price point. The new EX10 has some similarities to that model and is worth investigation if you were a fan of the EP760.

If you're looking to learn piano, I would recommend a piano with a full 88-note range and a weighted touch. The Roland FP10 would be an excellent option for that! If you are looking to play keyboard/synth, this EX10 model can serve as a good starting point.

My goodness.. Made in China? Sounds like a early 80's toy keyboard of Casio.. But I've been never a big fan of Roland. If you also take the BK3. Which is more expensive than this garbage. The BK3 feels also very cheap. It's awfull to touch the keys. Like they can get broken beneath your fingers.

Most digital pianos are manufactured in either China, Indonesia, or Malaysia these days. While this instrument is not a professional level keyboard, it is quite fun and offers a lot of bang for the buck. It would be an excellent travel companion for the creatively minded player looking to flesh out ideas or work out songs/arrangements on the road.
