The ‘smart’ in the hammer category, has two sensor, but the software makes it act like a triple sensor. A guy named Pianoman Chuck talks about that in his Pxs-3000 video. I hope this helps. Excellent video.

Well, mine arrived last week, I was half expecting to be sending it straight back, but... I have to say, I absolutely love it! The action is excellent, I played Rach 3 1st mvt all the way through and was delighted with the action (I'd heard the action up the white keys, was compramised, yes it is a little harder to play than a Steinway but only a little) Don't know how they've done it but, they have! The tone of the 2 favourites Grand Piano Concert and Mellow are absolutely superb. The reverb is out of this world too. Looks superb sounds superb feels superb. I have been a bit of a standing joke with my clients and friends as every single digital piano I've bought since 1990, I've not been happy with,for various reasons namely tone and I've paid a ton of money over the years and lost a ton of money getting shut of them. This Privia Px s3000 knocks all of the makes into a cocked hat. I hope it will last but I'm hoping that in the near future a stronger keyboard will be produced by Casio for piano maniacs such as me. Not that it is at all flimsy. It's build is excellent. I bought 15" P. A active Speakers. Those coupled with the privia make it a 9 foot dream and I only paid £250.00 for them. The Privia sounds magnificent throug headphones also but the internal speakers aren't enough for me. Maybe enough for late night soirées alone but I have neighbours who adore to here me play anytime of the day or night. But if you can't play late, then the headphones option is superb my only mini gripe is that they could be a little louder but a headphones amp might remedy that for 20 quid? So to sum up.. If you would adore a 9ft concert grand but can't fit one in your home or afford even, this IS the one. Run to the shop and get one you'll love it

Stu - Your reviews have basically become my Default / Go-to for Digital Pianos! It's not just the comprehensive knowledge, but it's your exquisite Musicianship! You're the polar opposite of "Piano-Man Chuck"! OUCH! Sorry...that wasn't very nice! I am a more Pianistic Player/Composer, currently living in Istanbul - and I SO need a lightweight Digital Piano, so...from your reviews, I'll probably go with the Casio PX-S3000. It's definitely NOT a Nord, but it covers a lot of Terrain! As for your Amazing Harmonic sophistication, I hear a lot of Bill Evans, and some other favorites of mine: Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Richie Beirach, John Taylor, Bobo Stenson, and Lyle Mays. Thank You for putting SO Much Vital information, Passion - and Love into these Videos!

Dynamic range on a piano changes the timbre significantly or at least it should. I think that's what makes Pianoteq so special. There is a significant difference in timbrel quality as it relates to velocity. The greater the velocity, the more upper partials. That's why these digital pianos actually sound better with smaller bass speakers. The upper partials are lost with an oversized bass speaker. A message to Stu: When you are demonstrating pads or strings, your chords need to be less complex, with less voices. In general 3 or 4 different voices at the most. To address the issue of the "light action," you can deffinately damge your finger joints playing on a keyboard that lacks touch sensitivity. What happens is that you want more sound out of the instrument; but it just isn't there, so what happens is that you stress your muscles and joints trying to get what will never be there. After it's all said and done, I think I will just continue with my PX-150 driving the Pianoteq Pro sound engine. For those that don't know, you can adjust every single parameter on every individual not with the Pianoteq Pro, and one of the ways people make the piano sound more realistic is by variring the parameters slightly on every individual note so the character of each individual note is slightly difference. Pianoteq Pro also has an aging slider. Most good players perfer the sound of an instrument that is slightly aged which means there is variation from note to note which increases with the age of the instrument.
@Mnkmnkmnk
@Mnkmnkmnk 4 года назад
In this case, can't say whether the compressed dynamic range is due to the tone engine or the keybed. What if the keybed / sensors themselves give the compressed midi velocity levels? If yes, even pianoteq won't be able to help.
@JoeLinux2000
@JoeLinux2000 4 года назад
@@Mnkmnkmnk , This is something I have wondered about. I know the Yamaha KX-88 divides the 128 velocity units into increments of 10, but it's an older device. Supposedly my Casio PX-150 has "High-Res MIDI" inwhich the units are far more precise. Here's a thread on the subject: forum.modartt.com/viewtopic.php?id=5897

@@Mnkmnkmnk Just recently I have learned to properly adjust the velocity curve on the Pianoteq as sent from the Casio in velocity setting 2 and there is no problem at all with the velocities coming from the Casio. My Casio is a triple sensor PX-150. Perhaps Pianoteq should explain how to adjust the velocity settings or perhaps I'm just stupid, but it took 3 years for me to figure it out. It's actually simple, I just didn't understand it.
@Mnkmnkmnk
@Mnkmnkmnk 3 года назад
@@JoeLinux2000 I have understood the main velocity curve, but not the note-off and sustain curve. The calibration tool helped. My digital piano, roland rp-102 has a very hard action, and it is very difficult to get high velocities (have to hit really hard to get >90 velocity). So, I had to set a very steep velocity curve from 75 up.

I really like this channel, but like a lot of reviews I think a number of possibilities with this keyboard have been missed in this review. The weight can be fairly significantly adjusted in the settings using the heavier settings which does make a huge difference to the playing experience. The other thing regarding the piano sounds as well as every single sample on this keyboard are the editable DSP settings which a lot of people seem to miss as a part of this keyboard's unique makeup. This can make a massive difference to the sound and dynamic range of every single piano tone, especially the first row of 10 DPS settings. It's a beast of a keyboard, my only real gripe with it personally is the midi connectivity which is annoying from the point of view that the Casio app is fantastic to use together with the keyboard but it doesn't seem like you can use the app and connect to midi at the same time which is a bit silly. Worth looking deeper into this instrument, it has a lot of pretty incredible hidden features.

@Mnkmnkmnk
@Mnkmnkmnk 4 года назад
It has a lot of synthesizer features that I think were glossed over. The ADSR envelope is a feature not present in comparative digital pianos, and can have a huge impact on the sound. For example, increasing the attack will make your piano sound softer and good for ballads.
@khye06
@khye06 4 года назад
While I think the difference in weight between the white keys and the black keys are negligible, the short key bed makes the back of each key really heavy and not fun to play honestly. Most reviewers also seem to really praise the sound on the pxs-3000, but I find that the lower mid range of the piano sounds very digital, while the higher range always have a thump sound even when I play softly (this becomes obvious with headphones). For me, the speakers just do not cut it, even when I had it backed against a wall at home. I had it returned a few days after.

Everyone saying it isn't as good as X keyboard because of the action or whatever, just a reminder this has batteries and is made purely for portability. This is the best keyboard for a gigging musician. I can just bring this and a PA and play literally anywhere for 3-4 hours. There are other keyboards that are battery powered, but none this complete. The only other option is the CDP-S150, which has a 13 hour battery life but comprimises a lot everywhere else. If you're looking for a digital piano to learn on, don't buy this. There are keyboards from Kawaii with action just like a grand piano, and other cheap options that have better action etc. Nothing beats this model for gigging though, and the battery and portabilty of this keyboard is a gigging musicians best friend, trust me.

Something about the piano sound on the Casio has always bothered me. While it's improved a ton, it still has a tinny quality to it with a decay that seems to fall off too quickly. As always, great review.
@IvanEDaza
@IvanEDaza 4 года назад
I wouldn't say it's the decay since this one model just got a longer and more natural decay, if I'm not wrong casio's main problem is on their sampling, it has something between the timber being "spikey" on the register between C3 and E5 on the mid-range sampling covering some of the natural brightness of the strings and the velocity curve response while playing, I own this model, and tbh what I like the most on it is the fact that has string resonance, damper resonance, key on-off noise, damper sound level, it's VERY light, runs on batteries, at this price range is really hard to beat.

@@JoeLinux2000 It is, but seems like there's thin sounding acoustic pianos as well, most times are likely to sound like that cause they don't have the lid on (removed lid), some people love that sound, others just can't make it without a full sounding piano tone, I believe that the string resonance at its max on this keyboard somehow compensates the lack of body and gives it more richness to the sound.

In fact i mostly use it as a midi keyboard with piano plugins that sound much more realistic to my ears. The menu system is confusing and not intuative, having to jump through hoops for simple things. It looks nice and i'm comfortable with the action, but agree with the lack of dynamic range. Onboard speakers are awful as to be expected with their small size and would recommend headphones or amp for this. you seem to search for things to say to soften what you really think about the key action: that it's no good. I saw other videos that demolished Casio for the action on this piano (even taking it apart to prove the point), to a point that Casio felt the need to attack that video and brushing it off as lies. It's a shame they did this with arguments that make no sense and that are proved wrong by the man who made the videos. It was practically impossible to make a good key action due to the small case of the Casio. They put style over playing fun

Adam Norell I have owned it for 8 months now and I can confirm all the downsides mentioned in JPS’ vids as well as in this vid (about the compressed dynamics). Bought this for the portability & aesthetics (which serves its purpose well) replacing my Kawai ES8 as my gigging instrument (it’s now used for home piano only). Speaking about gigging, what bothers me most about this instrument is the hard-to-control dynamics. More often than not I became uninspired with my own playing 😂

What do you call a piano key that doesn’t give? Selfish.

It's funny. I went to Sweetwater and I got all of the specs. Polyphony, action and speaker wattage and size of the speakers. Doesn't seem too hard to get specs

@@johngood8742 wait, what? He stopped? No. Funny I’m the opposite. I prefer almost no playing as I don’t believe I’m getting a real representation of the instrument anyway. I actually want to hear about his opinions and thoughts on it. I’ve gotten too many instruments that didn’t sound anything like in the video. Gotta love RU-vid audio compression.
