Lost count of the hours researching the 5000, 6000, 7000. Chuck is light years ahead with his no non-sense reviews. Thanks PianoMan!

Sometimes I wonder how anyone can live with an acoustic piano that sounds the same for life!! These keyboards just get better and better! I love the black7000 but at my age, half deaf and blind lol, I'd opt for the 5000. If I were younger the top choice but not the yellow. I would need sunglasses to play the thing in that color. Thanks for all your hard work Chuck ( and I can name almost ALL the tunes you played). One that stumped me sounded like Ghost Riders in the Sky but I'm thinking maybe a Zep or Moody B tune.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck Год назад
Ah, but think how cool you'll look being forced to wear sunglasses LOL! And acoustic pianos don't sound the same for life, they actually sound different as they age and wear, its a natural thing with them. A brand new Steinway Grand won't sound the same after 6 months of playing it, etc. But digital pianos will always sound the same as when first purchased. PiianoTeq actually has a slider for piano "age" which tries to mimic a piano's sound as it ages.

Love your videos and that you are reviewing these new Pianos in such detail. The 7000 actually offers the same functionality with regards to programing/customising sounds if you utilise the keyboard interface and piano app. Your point on this makes it sound like this functionality is entirely missing, which might sway people from investing in the more premium model of the series. The 6000 does boast those handy knobs, but they don't add anything the 7000 can't do by other means, especially considering the trade offs. But there is the much cheaper cost factor to appreciate, of course. Anyways, another great video. Thanks for your work.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck Год назад
Thanks for your feedback. However, the 6000 DOES offer customization that you simply can NOT get with the 7000 (even if using the App). The 7000 allows you to choose effects and other choices based on pre-selected settings, whereas the 6000 allows you to fine tune exactly the parameters you're looking for. Check Casio's own video/seminars on this to confirm.
@Tube2097
@Tube2097 Год назад
@@PianoManChuck Which of these are missing because Chris from Casio himself touched upon the 6000 having it all built in, but that the 7000 could still do these things only you needed the app since the keyboard itself only had the general customisations. I'd be surprised if the 7000 does indeed lack any of the 6000's functionality when it is their flagship model.

I got the 6000. I too thought, is it really worth it? After all it was only my second keyboard. But after I got it it felt like a steal! I'm not pro but the upgrade from a value 300usd midi keyboard was so significant for me that it made a huge impact. Only thing to mention is that the black keys have a varying semi-clonky release, taking a bit from the quietness of the white keys. Thank you!

so I was thinking: get the PX-S7000, ES520, P-515, and now you can have 5 top piano sounds in the world: Steinway D, Bechstein, Kawai SK-EX, Yamaha CFX, and Bosendorfer. It is only $2500 + $1300 + $1600, which is $5400 (and if double sensor is fine, then ES120 and it is $5000 total). Or upgrade to ES920 and P-S500 for a higher end piano. Or, get the Nord Piano 5, which has Bechstein (Velvet?), Kawai SK-7 (Silver), Steinway D (Concert Grand Close), Yamaha C7 (Studio Grand), Bosendorfer (Imperial), and you also get Fazioli (Italian), and it is $3499... just that you get only one piano and if anything goes wrong, you will be without a piano until it is fixed. These, and get the Ravenscroft 275 VST, and that is pretty good... some of the top 6 pianos in the world
@Ben-ic1ve
@Ben-ic1ve Год назад
Honestly with todays market, as long as you get a piano that you like the feel of, VSTs will get you the sound you want (as long as you’re ok with using them). Because of that you can just get one and be set, but if need be, have a more affordable back up one that can also be used with VSTs. If you’re going to have a backup, since you might not be using it as often, I’m not sure if you’d want to spend as much on it :) Anyways, fair points, all the pianos you mentioned, I really like but can’t afford right now (the life of a student 🤕). Hope the search goes well!
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck Год назад
If having an extra physical keyboard as a backup is your concern, use the approach that many car manufacturers use with spare tires. They use a spare tire/wheel (smaller than a regular tire/wheel) which will hold you just until you make it to the nearest service station. Using the same approach, go for the best keyboard you want, and get the absolute bare minimum (just enough to get you by) while/until your main keyboard issue is resolved.
@Tube2097
@Tube2097 Год назад
Why not get one that works with apps to give you access to other sounds? I'm not sure if the premium samples are accessible this way, but I have seen people using Korg sounds and other stuff on a Yamaha etc.
@winterheat
@winterheat Год назад
@@PianoManChuck oh yes, thanks. I was thinking of getting a MIDI controller like the SL88 Grand or the Komplete Kontrol S88... so that can be a backup... and get to know how to use a specialized MIDI controller... one reason I wanted to get multiple pianos like PX-S7000, ES520, etc, is so that I can get a feel of different keyboard actions and play with different piano's functions. Another reason is, I wasn't able to get the best Bechstein VST sound and can only get the Kawai EX Pro sound, so it is not SK-EX. The Pianoteq Bechstein is good, and so is its K2, which to me sounds like a Kawai sound. The Bechstein Digital VST is not loud enough... the VI Labs German has a little bit of strange sound when I use the sustain pedal for a long time... one note sounded weird and VI Labs in general has this issue: VI Labs Italian Fazioli, when I use the sustain pedal, let's say the note starts with a volume of 80%, then it drops to 55% quickly and then slowly goes down. So there is a sudden drop of volume. The Ravenscroft 275 doesn't do that. It goes from 80% to 78%, to 76% gradually, without the sudden drop to 55%. So I thought if Casio made the Bechstein sound go into the piano itself as one of its premium sounds, then it should be a good job with everything tuned well. The ES520 is so that I can get the SK-EX sound... and especially ES920 has the longer sampling duration (Extra Long Sampling HI-XL)
@winterheat
@winterheat Год назад
@@Ben-ic1ve so yes, I think one way is to get a piano and then get many VSTs... I was thinking a premium sound on a piano probably sounds better than a VST sound, because the piano maker probably tunes everything to make it sound good. (and especially because Casio has a working relationship with Bechstein). One exception is Bosendorfer sound on the P-515. Somehow they make it so that the sound seem to come from far away. For VSTs, I get varying results... sometimes in the youtube demos, settings need to be changed here and there to make it sound better. The more consistent result I get is from Pianoteq and from Ravenscroft 275... even for Vienna Symphonic Libraray (VSL) that sells for $250 to $450, I found out the hard way you need to make it 1 Close mic and 1 Mid and nothing else, to make it sound like you are in front of the piano. Otherwise, the sound can feel like coming from 50 feet away and it is weird. Alternatively, you can use 1 Close at 80% volume, another Close at 45% volume, and then Mid 1, Mid 2 at 45% volume and that's good too. But to get all Close and Mid mics, you need to get the full version, which is $450 and it is too much. Their standard version only has 1 Close and 1 Mid and is sold for $225 or $250.

Great review as always from Chuck. without a doubt, you always bring to your followers, useful information with great knowledge of the product/s you're reviewing. I very much love the Casio PX-S7000 in Harmonius Mustard more so because my home style is Mid-Century Modern and really complements the esthetics :) As you stated Chuck, this has no control directly to say change the ambience which you like to simulate such as Club, Concern Hall, Cathedral and others alike! if that is the case, can one hook something like Ampero Mini to achieve such results? Please advise as greatly appreciated Chuck. Thank you Chuck once again
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 10 месяцев назад
Not really familiar with Ampero Mini as its a guitar fx unit. As such, it takes a mono input (keyboards are typically stereo). Besides, keyboard outputs are line level, guitar outputs are hi z level. You'd need to find a stereo fx unit that takes line level inputs - try asking on the various keyboard forums out there.

Hello, PianoManChuck, I need your advice as I am a beginner piano player, and I currently have the Donner DEP-20 and I am not particularly happy with it, and want to upgrade to either the Roland FP-60X or the Casio Privia PXs5000. My first choice would have been the Privia PX-S6000 like you have here in this video, but it is not within my budget. I have been able to demo the Roland FP-30X in person at my local music store today and like the action and tonal quality of it a lot. It feels very responsive. Unfortunately they didn't have any of the Casio Privia new models available to demo, but they did have the previous generation of Privia's for me to test out. I know that the newer Privia's have been completely revamped, and have a brand new action, but I really enjoyed the feel and sound of the old Privia's that I felt they were on par with the feel of the Roland, so I am hoping the newer Privia's will feel even better to me. For a new piano student who will be focused on learning the instrument and might be interested in performing for friends or family in the next year or so, with the possibility of doing small gigs about 3 years down the line, do you think I would have more enjoyment and room to grow with the Roland FP-60X or the Casio Privia PXS5000? Thank you in advance for your expert opinion.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck Год назад
The FP30X is a nice board, so is the PX-S5000 - but what I don't like about either of them is that neither has a display screen. This means until you learn/memorize the different button+key combinations to do different things with, its going to be a steep (even annoying) learning curve! The FP60X and PX-S6000 would be more suitable for serious playing with an actual display screen that won't distract you from what you're focusing on. That being said, as far as the actual piano samples and key feel, that is completely up to you. I highly recommend you find a retailer that has each for you to try. Its been a very, very strict long-term policy here to NOT give personal opinions for obvious reasons ( see ru-vid.comabout ). I am an authorized Casio dealer, but not a Roland dealer. Even though that's the case, I love Roland boards AND Casio boards. I have both here at the studio, and both are being used in a professional recording capacity here.

The 7000 looks great. Not sure I would fork the extra money for that mustard colour. I would stick with the black one. Now you can get the same stand for the 6000 but cost 350 quid and it comes with the cover... Problem is you can get the 6000 without the extras but the 7000 comes all together in one lot. As I said I feel the mustard colour option is overpriced. If we stick with the black colour and add the extras to the 6000 the difference is very little. You can not put the fancy pedals from the 7000 to the 6000 or better said the fancy metallic part where the pedals stand. The 7000 is not for gigs. I believe is for home only. From this perspective the price difference is narrower. Is the stand worth 350 quid. I am not sure even if it comes with the piano keys cover.

JAMES PAVEL SHAWCRASS ASIDE, it has to be asked: Yes or no (if you know...), is the action in these pianos the same (but with wood inserts) as the PX 3000? I bought and returned the PX 3000. It HURT after about 45 minutes of playing. I have really large hands / long fingers (C to Ab and sometimes A on a good day...), and the short pivot on the 3000 was murder on my hands. I own the PX5S but it's in NY and I'm back in LA. I have a small studio apartment and the quieter action of the 6000 would be helpful; I don't want any complaints (even when using headphones, this can be an issue). Casio says the action is "all new" (as does Mike Martin on Pianoworld forum...), but ... IS IT??? You state that the 5000 uses the same box as the 3000, so that would suggest that it's the SAME ACTION (with wood inserts). If it's the same action, it has to have the same fulcrum. Now, I'm going to go play the thing at Sam Ash Hollywood for about an hour today. I'll report my hand fatigue! (I note you like a heavier action. I'm a saxophonist and like a lighter piano action). Thank you for all of your excellent reviews, they really give the inside scoop!
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck Год назад
As stated many times, this is a completely redesigned action - nothing like its predecessors. Since you'll be trying this out on your own as you said, we'll be looking forward to you reporting your own findings back here soon!
@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton
@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton Год назад
@@PianoManChuck The 7000 does, in fact, have less "back of black key resistance" than the 3000. Both were at Sam Ash Hollywood, almost next to each other. The exposed length of the keys was identical, however (I measured with a tape ruler). I don't think they reinvented the wheel here, but it's a better action. That said, I gravitated towards the Roland PF90X and it has a much better action - for me at least. But it weighs 52 pounds! I'm going to play-test the 25 pound Kawai ES-120 today. I own the ES100, and it gives me a little fatigue after a long playing session and is "bouncy." Supposedly they fixed the bounce issue with the ES120. I own the Casio PX5S (also not here...) and I like its action better than the new 7000.
