Faith Kipyegon curled up on the track and covered herself with the Kenyan flag just to take a moment to absorb what she'd just done - that is, defend her Olympic title in the 1500m. In doing so the mother-of-one had recorded a new Olympic record of 3:53.11.
Great Britain's Laura Muir wins her first major international outdoor medal, passing the Dutch athlete, Sifan Hassan on the final lap, crossing the finish line in a British record time of 3:54.50.

Some people act like having a baby requries some kind a great effort. The effort comes after the baby is born. The generations before mine in my family most of the women who had children started out when they were teenagers and had most of the kids before their mid twenties.

Sometimes she bombs but other times she delivers and on this day, she delivered. She is also chepng’etich’s friend. Wow, two apostrophes in her name. Congratulations to Faith Chepng’etich. I can’t wait to see her take on the 5k.

Well he’s a British commentator for British viewers on British TV and British people have been waiting years for Muir to hit the global podiums and she finally did in this race. Her winning second on a global stage is a massive thing for us. Plus he actually gave lovely commentary on the winner too and no doubt, commentary from other national commentators would be focused differently. Look at the comments on this video as well, all the Kenyans are giving praise to Muir.

@Jack Ward, I am Kenyan and I totally agree with you. I love Laura. She mixes it with the Africans without fear. She always “brings it” every time. She is a doctor too. She works hard in everything, not just athletics. Great Britain is the better because of her.

Not even close! Where is her world record ?& why did she eat 50 meters of Hassan's dust to lose by 3 seconds in the WC??? Goat- you need to look it up----it 100% doesn't not mean Kipyeygon any more than MO Farh is any kind of goat by winning races yet being half a lap or more behind Cheptigai,Kiplimo ect........(?)

Doped Kipyegon has a 3-18 lifetime record vs Genzebe. Genzebe has 7 world records. Kipyegon has none. Try again.

@Dinia ADIL’ That was the only tactic that could have worked . She was up against a force of nature_Faith Chepn’etich. Sifuna always runs at the back due to er speed but kipyegon is explosive and can win any race, even a 4:10 1500m race. Siffan was in great shape and decided to Take the war to Faith. Faith answered the call. It is not easy to beat Faith and these gals know it.
