I remember playing approach of the second sun in standard, and in that format it was a very potent win condition in difficult board states. It has always been a card that plays better than it reads. Once you have a significant amount of mana and the ability to go 7 cards deep, it becomes one of the best win cons.
I had success with Grapeshot answering creatures back in the Rite of Flames days. Rite of Flames makes that plan much stronger so cutting Rite makes cutting Grapeshot make sense in favor of a different alternate win con
Another very interesting video, thanks Bryant ! I remember several month ago when I watched Tony streaming with this, I meaned "man, what the hell" until I understand that was not a crazy idea at all )
Say the list and the 5:0 a few days ago on goldfish and i knew its gonna be a sweet video. Right now i think the second sun is a good move to have something nice and reliable vs. those veils. Seeing forces in the SB is still a pretty crazy sight to behold. With the 2 boseju i would consider playing a chain lightning instead of a chain of vapor or perhaps a deathmark. Really depends on the sideboard-plan. On a sidenote EtW is looking increasingly like doing nothing in that SB slot.
Your videos are awesome, keep watching and rewatching the TES videos and others! Ty for the content. Two LEDs short of having TES, much to learn but am loving it
I don't believe that Flare of Fortitude is anywhere close to Mindbreak Trap, since it can't be played on T0 and not even reliably on T1, but I'm always excited for some Approach of the Second Sun action!
Who knows, but this is something I've been considering and wanted to try it. Flare of Fortitude is also good in almost every matchup unlike Mindbreak Tap.
8:50 match 1 game 2; couldn't you play around stifle by going for the beseech into song line instead of thoughtseize? or what were your thoughts here? btw I am currently learning TES and i have a lot of fun with the deck. thanks so much for all the content you put up
IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING AGAIN. I was on it until BSS turned into a much better and different version. I can't wait until OBM gets banned so we can go back to it in BSS! LOVE IT!
This seems like a good experiment, though I'm not sure that the white card shown in the intro is going to really see play. The logic behind removing grapeshot is reasonable and the deck seems solid though
23:44 - It's an interesting phenomenon, Bryant. Some might say that you don't need the mana. But to those people, I just gotta ask you one question: ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?
Nice. Song of creation is very good and belongs in your 75. Don't think its worth moving it to the side to fit in Zirda, the Dawnwaker as a free 3/3 companion. Kaheera is easier to fit in but can't block thalia. BtM is too good over Jegantha. Though I'm not sure how relevant they are as buffer against counter balance
This is a different approach to winning, but I love it. At first I thought it was going to be some sort of omnitell wincon since it is easy to cast twice there.
On the subject of what you're killing with Grapeshot, if Gaddock Teeg ends up seeing more play, would that change your plan? Or do you prioritize it less because it's generally a sideboard card anyway?
Too many people try to create back-doors to everything, sometimes its best to just accept the loss and get the next one. By trying to beat fringe cards, you'll end up lowering your overall MWP.
I didn’t like this vid, I loved it. Second Sun stinks no doubt, totally win-more, but because you’re highly skilled you can play a 74 card deck. It was neat though to see you pull it off.
