Arguably one of the most difficult events in the pool, the 400m Individual Medley is a true test of strength, endurance, grit and also strategy! An event never short on surprises, such as when Micheal Phelps missed the podium for the first time since in twelve years at London 2012, Tokyo 2020 was no exception.
Japan's Daiya Seto, a bronze medalist at Rio 2016 and a medal favourite on home soil, was knocked out in the heats whilst current World Record holder Léon Marchand of France made his debut in the Olympic pool but ultimately had to settle for sixth in the final won by USA's Chase Kalisz.
