We moved to Columbus from Philly back in 96 when i was a kid,Originally it was supposed to be Atlanta but houses were cheaper in Columbus.We lived on the East side on winall dr and own 2 houses on that street.

Older areas people usually know everyone and been there a long time so people look out for each others homes. Problem is when u live there a long time people learn your schedule so they know when u not there. Thats why people put bars on their windows. Back in the day somebody was always home, mom, dad, grandparents, somebody always there so u dont have to worry bout getting robbed. Columbus safe well was safe when it was mostly people born and raised there. Then all these people started moving there, and military fort Benning brought alot of outta state people so crime got bad. In my day i was all over columbus and it was very safe, nothing to worry about. You can go to any neighborhood and you safe to hangout play basketball, see friends, whatever.

A Glenda Mitchell billboard, LOL. I live where the home office is located. I lived in Columbus as a child '54 thru '64 on Morris Road and went to Edgewood Elm. My father worked for Armour Meat Packing downtown next to the river a block from the 14th street bridge. From our house to town I recall going past Wells Dairy, a museum, Nehi plant, Tom's Peanut plant, Columbus Boiler Works, downtown proper and appropriately a block west the cotton mills.

Thanx for this video. I grew up in Columbus in the late 50's and early 60's. Things sure have changed. I was excited because you were driving through my old neighborhood at the beginning. We lived on 7th street between Brown Ave and Lawyers Lane. I was disappointed because that was one of the streets you didn't drive down. 🙂

There are so many nicer areas, like the Lakebottom, Hilton, Cooper Creek, Midtown, Northeast, Northwest, Blackmon Rd, Flat Rock, Chatham Woods, Sears Woods, Twin Chapel, Mobley Rd, Bradley Park, Whitesville, River Rd. areas etc. I think you would like Columbus very much. South Columbus does not represent Columbus as a whole. And most of the houses in Columbus don't have bars on their windows...lol. Your video was evidence of that 😊 Take care❤

You didn't drive through East Columbus (Macon Rd, Wynton Rd) area. Where there is people and shopping. Lake Bottom where people are walking , Milgen Rd, Cooper Creek park, Peachtree Mall. Peachtree 8 theater, the airport. You didn't show nothing. Looks like you were on the south side most of your video. You misrepresented Columbus, GA. It is a very good place to live. It has its crime like every other place. It is growing very well. All types of people live here. It is a military town also. Very family oriented here. I mean you did not show Bradley Park, North Columbus. All of the developing going on. Its pretty cool. I am very disappointed in your video. It's just if you are going to review a place, review the whole place. Thank you.

My name is Timothy. If I get a chance to do a video of Columbus Georgia would you watch? I’ll do all of Columbus. It would be broken up into a few videos. I also live in Columbus ga. I would show everything from Macon rd, Milgen rd, victory drive,, Manchester Expressway, Hamilton road, veterans parkway, morris road, wyntonn road, downtown Columbus, cooper creek, inside peach tree mall, all the neighborhoods in between, any of the restaurants like Del taco, Burger King, Krystal’s, hibachis Chinese restaurant, pawn shops, Gas stations, the rose hill park, the neighborhoods in between rose hill playground, Jordan high school, the bike trail, the neighborhoods behind the bike trail, warm springs road, those neighborhoods off of warm springs road, and anything else that I did not name. I mean id cover it all. Id even introduce some of my family and my friend and the people I used to hang out with as an added free bonus. I’m dead serious. All of Columbus would be covered as much as I can do. Would you or anyone else watch my videos?

Like with every city your have your up's and down. Looking at your video and looking at the street names I was able to get a googles view of the area. SO with research I think I can say this. Outside of fort more (Fort Benning) is a not so safe area (Victory drive all the way to Macon Road.) After Macon Road you get to the some what "safe" areas. Downtown areas everywhere are known for not so safe areas, homeless and more. Looking at the Map it looks like areas around Midland and up are the safest based on crime records. SO Midland, Cataula, and hamilton. Note not all those are Columbus GA. Would I want to live there based off your video? No, but that is only because your are showing the low income areas. But columbus as a whole sure I would stay there if I had to.

I don't like how someone who doesn't live. In a city comes there and make statements about it like it's True, not one home in your video. Head bars on the windows. Then you call mostly every neighborhood. You went through the hood when it was Saturday the satitown. You say you can go from being in a nice house into the hood. As you say, it's using this at a time. Is very quiet and people do not bother other people. Until you move to a location and can make a correct assessment about it. Do not put stuff out. Like it's true because you do not like city life. And you like living in the country. Do. Not prejudge people like you know better. They always say you should never judge a book by as cover. And you judge a city that you never lived in. Just cause you to draw through it. And assuming every part of that usual through is bad. Talk to people who actually live here and instead of just making up things to make a video

I’m in Columbus, and i am not a native and it baffles me that everyone is upset because Columbus is being “misrepresented”. Speaking from experience; minding your business here only gets you so far. People are not nice here, I’m in awe when they are. There are more bad areas than good or “nice” and the good areas seem to be hidden. and because crime is literally everywhere, it’s the poor housing and quality for me. Columbus is a forgotten about city. The upkeep is sad and trifling. And just because you’re in a “nicer” area doesn’t mean that’s all there is. Of course there’s shopping but even in lake bottom area, there is a lot of crime. In fact some people even claim that the nicer areas are the worst when it comes to crime. I understand that people love their city but a lot of you are so native based that you ignore the city’s flaws and I am tired of it.
@deenajones9019
@deenajones9019 10 месяцев назад
As a native who moved away and returned, I agree with some of your statements. The city has definitely been neglected in the low income areas, partly due to a shift in demographics; people moved away, neighborhoods declined. People with earning power do not wish to reside in areas where smaller homes are prevelent; they want at least four bedrooms with nice landscaping. As a result, when people moved away, many properties were left vacant. Entire neighborhoods declined as a result or the land lord investor class bought up properties and rented them out to criminals. The second issue is the tax base. The city could collect more revenue to deliver more services on an equitable basis but the politicians cater to the voters, as a result, less money to hire more cops. Lastly, transportation sucks here. If you do not own a car you are doomed. No way to get around or to even travel out of here. The airport lacks out-bound flights to desirable locations; Greyhound bus service has been diminished to almost nothing; Groome Transportation is the only way to reach the Atlanta airport if you do not have a car. Biking is problematic here. Walking trails are not safe. The city needs help with long-term planning and revitalizing neighborhoods that were once safe, thriving places to live. Sorry for the long reply!

@deenajones9019

High-paying jobs are hard to obtain unless you are highly skilled. AFLAC, TSYS, hospital and Ft Moore, are the main employers. Low-paying, by-the-hour slave wage jobs are plentiful. Do your homework, network and do not settle for a low-paying job. Columbus is no longer affordable.

To answer your question: if you want to move into a house, go to church, go shopping, go to a restaurant, go to activities at the civic center , stadium and the trade center, visit relatives, do whitewater rafting, and you can tolerate hearing about shootings every week, then yes, move to Columbus. If you want a high-paying job, if you like biking, running, walking, rollerblading, riding a scooter, going to see plays, the movies, and stimulating activities all in a low-crime city where you rarely hear about shootings and killings, then NO. Don't move to Columbus.

I grew up born '64. Until 17 when I left, in Columbus. Still have family there and visit. Time before last our truck was broken into, cuz had Texas plates so they were looking for guns, left everything in there. We got window replaced cut our vacation 4 days short cuz the thugs came in thug mobile n stared us down hotel parking lot. So we come home to find we got ripped off by the hotel for 2,300$ So last time I went to see family stayed in little place Alabama. No problems at all cheap and beautiful lakes. Columbus is full of bad memories for me. My Dad n friends are buried out at Benning, never going to call it moore. And I think Columbus is still same most part. A rat hole. Some good parts too. I miss being East, in Houston now. Concrete jungle. Weather terrible and when you really hate it, it gets even hotter or floods or hurricanes or fires.
