Have just signed up with Trustedhousesitters using your code for the discount. Thank you so much for the information. I will be in Spain and Portugal after the 20th September. Going to try one in the UK first. 😀
Hi Louise... I'm one of those who joined THS after seeing your videos... Best thing I've ever done! Currently doing a sit in Cotswolds for terrier and spaniel and they are sooo cute. Beautiful home/area. I choose the sits that suit me, prefer small dogs /max 2. I also only choose a sit whereby l can have approx 3 hours per day to myself (animals can be left) My first sit was in Yorkshire, cat, tortoise and 4 chickens... very easy sit for my first experience... home/pet owners have always been lovely and made me feel at ease. Once I've chosen a sit, l set up a WhatsApp chat to get to know them a little... now I'm waffling 🤣 Hope this helps others... DO IT, IT'S BRILLIANT!
@@Solo50plus good to know! That's my one big concern when I have to be away. I worry about my kitties. Have had some bad experiences - one so bad as the pet sitter not coming for a whole week to feed them. So I'm afraid I do have trust issues. That's why your videos make me feel better about my move there. (Oh and ps. My baby Bengals get fed homemade raw food - no kibble for them! ;) ).
I Love your waffling!!! It makes me feel kin & that I could also travel more & enjoy the adventure!! When house-sitting with pets & plants, do you have any free time to explore the area?
Luise, looks like you are in a beautiful spot. I've known Trusted Housesitters for years. I've done pet & house-sitting for years now... occasionally. You are so correct, we all have a lot of experiences we don't think of. Take care x
That's great they are working out for you. I've used them but prefer THS. We are so lucky to have such a good choice of platforms to choose from. I'll have to do a list of all the other main sites when I talk about housesitting again. Thanks for the prompt :)
Hi Luise, your amazing I'm enjoying your videos. Also your traveling adventures. We have friends who house sat. They enjoyed it lots.pets/ animals are part of the job. Take care, stay safe.
Thank you for a great video, with so many interesting points. I have to say that the dried food aspect was new to us as every housesit for dogs we've ever had has had kibble for at least part of one of the daily meals. We've cooked up plenty of meals for pets, but even they've had kibble on the side, so it was very interesting to hear your perspective on it. ~ Mandy
This is a great video - apart from the fact that you are a pleasure to listen to it is well put together, very informative, answered all my questions and more. Excellent
Sometimes it can be an advantage already being in the same country as homeowners my worry that you won't arrive. Often house sitters will send proof of their flight booking to reassure the homeowners.
That was great; very informative... so, if say looking after horses do you ride, groom, muck-out etc. Would you look after small-holder: cows, sheep, goats, pigs or lamas... Just thinking geese might be scary 🙀 Really enjoying your channel which I only found tonight...... 🤟
I’ve looked after geese they where fine. 😇Every house sit has different tasks you might muck out, you might not, you might groom you may not it depends. Glad your enjoying the channel. 😊
Thanks for this, I signed up for Trusted House sitters and another called Nomador. I have not used either as it seems you and the house owner pay these websites! Seems you pay for the flights, use your time for pet and home minding. So while there are some benefits for the house sitter it would want to be a Bel Air Palace if they want my services!
@@Solo50plus tell me more..... 😁 Thanks for the honest views, when you consider that kennels cost €25 +per night here, house minding and own free time, it can be not cost effective. Like you I walk a lot so I need an energetic dog that can do at least 15km a day.
Thanks Louise, very informative. Just thinking about practical issues from my own personal angle - I'm guessing that you got into Portugal before the Brexit drawbridge went up...? I'm hoping that for us post Class of 2020 types, housesitting doesn't count as employment from a visa point of view. ie housesitting won't break the terms of a visa that doesn't allow someone to work. Also, I'm guessing that for your residence, you didn't need to prove you had a year's rental accomodation, as is needed for a D7 application/ renewal...? So anyone wanting to get a D7 visa will still need to have rented/own accomodation for their whole visa period, ie. housesitting might financially cover the accomodation, but it won't obviate the need to have more long term housing as well...? Not sure if you can answer these questions, as I guess this is not your own situation (jealous!), but if you do happen to know, that would be great.
you covered everything there, I got my first one because the couple were in a fix and needed someone fast, that can help you so you don't always need reviews. One more question, is there a facebook group that might help me get housesits in portugal?
If someone you were referred to really wants you to house sit for them and it's far, is it possible to ask them to reimburse your train or diesel to get there round trip, or would it be completely inappropriate?
Homeowners do sometimes pay for travel and flights if they really want you to house sit. Nothing wrong with asking...you shouldn't be out of pocket for doing someone a favour.
Hi great information. I think I must be completely out of touch. I really thought this was a job as in you get paid to look after someone’s house and animals for a fee 🤷🏼♀️ I have had a pet sitting business for the last 6 years and thought this would be great for us. But I hadn’t realised you need another job as well 😞
