In this video, we do the sea trial for a new Harry Bryan designed "Ladybug" Wheelbarrow Boat.
"We" includes my two piratey daughters, Kirsten and Lise - and myself, Mikkel, who's the builder of the boat and the boatbuilding instructor at Small Boat School.
This boat looks a lot like an Optimist dinghy, but it has lapstrake sides and is built of natural wood (larch and oak) instead of plywood or fiberglass.
The special thing about this boat is how it can be rolled over land: There's a wheelbarrow wheel built into a trunk in the bow of the boat, and the oars can be installed through the aft transom and used as wheelbarrow handles.
A really fun little boat that's simple to build and which works great if you need to cross a bit of land before you reach the water.
