Storm Alex carried thousands of tonnes of sediment along the Minière, which was blocked by the EDF dam. The dam's gates were rendered unusable, as was the access road.
The conditions under which the work was carried out were particularly difficult: helicopter transport of equipment, protected natural site with restricted area for mechanical intervention, no power supply, unstabilised, permeable ground).

🌪️ On 2 October 2020, storm Alex dumped around 66cm of water in a single day on a steep terrain (3/4 of the annual rainfall). The Roya and Vésubie valleys filled up like a tsunami on a toboggan. It is difficult to estimate the exact return period of such events, as they are so localised.
