David and David give you a first look at FaceTime on Android. This was one of the many new iOS 15 features announced at Apple's 2021 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
For the first time, Android users can FaceTime iPhone users. All you need is the FaceTime link generated by an iPhone running iOS 15. That link can be opened in a web browser on Androids as well as PCs and Windows computers.

Considering where we are now in technology. I almost feels dumb that you can't VC someone across platforms by just calling them. Like there soo many other apps profiting from this because they aren't working together

This is potentially great news...However, 10 seconds into the presentation I completely lost which phone is which. I'm sure there are "tells" from each device design, but my brain is made from shortcake and on top of that it is still at the lab getting a tune-up. If a follow up video is made after the official release, please consider maybe using color coded cases or something. Thanks!

The iOS 15 Developer Beta is already available. A public iOS 15 Beta will come out in July. The official release for iOS 15 is scheduled some time in the fall, so hopefully everyone will be able to use FaceTime Links by then!

The problem is, when you do facetime via link, you don't get the same video quality.. actually it becomes really bad. And from that point you can use any other cross-platform video app and get a better video quality. Whats the point?

The point is... Apple is trying to get into the remote/work-from-home space and trying to compete with Zoom, the most popular video conferencing app. Because of Apple's userbase, they can get a good foot in. As for the link/weaker quality calls, this is just Apple wanting iPhone buyers to feel they are still using something exclusive... something unobtainable by the poor and middle-class. Because that is all iPhones is about... "fitting in" or showing others you are rich.

Dont be such an apple fanbojs. First android userst dont care about some face time, actualy they dont know that app even exist.. Second i used android for years and it served me wery well, and third if android were not there to push things up, you would still have iphones with crappy batteries and cameras.. Didn’t work for me! My husband has an iPad and an android phone and it always wants to ring his iPad instead of his phone. When I look at FaceTime I cannot find where to create a link! It just shows my recent contacts. And like I said if I want to add him through his phone number it won’t let me.
