We have been shown inside what is believed to be the last-remaining Royal Air Force Blackburn Beverley, before the transporter aircraft before was recently sold for £21,000 at auction.
When it entered service in 1955, the Blackburn Beverley was the largest aircraft in the RAF and operated from rough runways or dirt strips.
We took a look on board before she was sold.👀

This has to be saved. Surely it should be at Duxford or Cosford?

Flew in one of these in Aden 1967 while serving with the RAF Regiment ,I think they had problems later on with part of the tail section falling off due to metal fatigue ,glad I didn’t know that then .

I did read about the metal fatigue somewhere and I’m sure it mentioned something about the tail section falling off ,but you’ve got me doubting it now ,I flew in it as an armed guard while they delivered supplies to some Paras dug in somewhere .

llewellyn evans I think that happened just before we arrived .the place was being run down by than ,family’s were leaving going home deemed not safe anymore for them , plus we were pulling out of Aden for good that year ,there were loads of abandoned cars and scooters on camp I rode round on a old lambretta .

So is the English language, but it's evident that we've let that perish. [Even if it had been a normal plural, the apostrophe would have been wrong.]

I have had the pleasure of looking around this magnificent aircraft a couple of times. Once when it was at the museum of army transport at Beverly. The other at its current location at Fort Paull. It will be a shame if this suffers the fate of scrapping or turning into a venue or some such. To be honest the best place for it would be the Yorkshire Air museum at Elvington.

8 RAR replacing 4 RAR at Terendak. In September 1967. I flew from Brisbane, Australia to Singapore on QANTAS. As our flight touched down, I saw a Beverley on the tarmac & laughingly said, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we had to fly to Malacca in that.” That, being said, when we came to a standstill Buses pulled up & we were transferred straight to the Beverley. I flew on the last Beverley in the British Airforce. From Singapore to Terendak Garrison, Malacca, Malaysia. September, 1967. It was a family flight & a number of children suffered hearing damage on that flight. We flew a Thunderstorm all the way, gaining & losing height & being buffeted all the way. One flight I will never forget. I sat next to the Skin on the upper Deck with my wife, Singles were relegated to the lower deck, there was no interior lining. I watched a gap in a join in the skin open & close all the way from Singapore to Terendak arriving at the Terendak Strip at around 10pm. When it left Terendak Garrison, it flew back to England, empty, to be decommissioned. I have no idea what it's number was.

There used to be one in Southend aircraft museum. It was a great place where you could get right up close to the exhibits and originally the Beverley was open and you could even get into the cockpit. As a kid this was awesome, pretending to be flying it. It was a sad day when they broke up the collection and shut the museum to replace it with a roller skating rink.

The lightweight Landrover was designed to fit inside the Beverley in greater quantities and improve air portability. By the time they had finished the design modifications to the "lightweight" it ended up weighing more than a short wheelbase Landrover and the far more powerful Hercules had made the requirement for the "lightweight" obsolete.

I remember in the mid 1970s when they had one at Southend Aircraft Museum , and it was used during of the National Service RAF comedy “ Get Some In”. The Director asked the Museum if they could start up one of engines for realism. The engine started first time, even though it had not been run for several years. Has anybody got any idea if the Southend Aircraft Museum still exists, and what happen to the Beverly aircraft at that location ?

Dazza No it was not at the Airport , but at the Aircraft Museum, not for from the Zero six Night Club. That was vintage 1976, and have no idea the situation today. I did hear a rumour that Vauxhall’s cars used Museum for storage, but that was over twenty years ago. Does the Air Training Corps still have Squadron in Leigh ?.

Maintaining a static display only costs a few pounds, moving the lawn and cleaning the windows once a week. This Beverly static display would cost no more than the accommodation costs for ONE of the thirty thousand rubber boat illegal migrants who have been welcomed on British beaches this year with benefit application forms and accommodation vouchers.
