yea. i always thought it was in this order: Ruas Frank Shamrock Pat Miletich the pioneers and first true MIXED Martial artists that were good at striking AND grappling and well-rounded..... in the UFC at least.

A very good fighter and soldier, very nice man too ! I was an alternate that night in Buffalo and was in the the locker room when Paul was walked in. Iv'e never seen welts on someones legs like that other than a car accident.

​ @user-hn2if1uc8x What people outside of Brazil do not know is that Marco Ruas was very used to fight with Jiu Jitsu guys including gracies in MMA (at they time they used to call it "Vale Tudo") events inside Brazil. He could have won or lost, but he would definitely not be surprised by Jiu-Jitsu's techniques.

@georgiaguidestones2999 Yes. Especially for strikers who kick. Around 30% of the time your kicking attacks will end with your strong leg forward because your opponent counterattacks. At that time you need to shift laterally off the line of attack or fight back with your strong side forward. In the case of this video, Ruas was chopping the leg out from under the bigger man who did not have leg kick defense. He could have switched sides and protected his injured left leg but didn't know how to do it.

@vernshein5430 most of the elite fighters are able to that these days. Back then MMA was completely new and it was one martial art against another. Know ufc fighters are complete in most areas unlike 30 years ago when most fighters had no clue how to check a leg kick.

Most people are just not naturally switch hitters or have no interest in developing it. It’s more common in kickboxing, they don’t even switch that much in Muay Thai

To the finish or nothing, more like the real thing. How many modern UFC fights do we she with no takedowns and no attempted subs, just basically kickboxing with smaller gloves.

@jou1900 Nah its my view on an unimportant issue, so it belongs to me, not to you. Love first 15 or so UFCs more than any modern card. It's just much closer to real fighting, why allow hand tape and gloves, but not shoes? Guys train to win rounds, but before you just had to win the fight, the only option. If you're allowed to make your hands into bricks changes everything.

Essa luta nunca aconteceu. Ruas lutou com o Pinduca, aluno do Carlson Gracie, em 1984, 9 anos antes de existir UFC. Naquela epoca qdo uma luta nao acabava por desmaio ou desistencia, era embate. Essa e outras lutas tem no youtube brasileiro.
