Pop singer plus rock band plus metal song. Okay, works for me. I think Alessia added a haunting effect and combined with Pau's creepy prayer the whole song took on an other-worldly vibe. Being a fan of The Warning I would have preferred them to do it themselves but I have no problem with what Alessia added.
😂 That chick (Alessia) has a Grammy for best new artist. I don't remember the exact year, but I think 2016. Yeah, she's pop. Gotta beautiful voice and is an even more beautiful person. Biggest, loving heart just like The Warning. I know some rockers aren't going to be good with the mainstream pop influences, but a little tip. The Warning don't just do heavy metal hard rock. So much so that it's really unfair to label them as a metal band. The Warning is just a great band that leans towards hard rock. I put it that way because people are going to get excited about them for their hard hitting rock songs, but then be claiming they sold out when they release softer music. They will. What I can say is that regardless of the style it will be incredible. I don't think lack of confidence is an accurate way of Dany. That lady can belt 'em out and has been for a while. Yet she has steadily improved as a singer, so with each new song people are going to say she was something before, but now... Ale, since hitting that special age of 16 years has picked up a kind of swag that says she knows when she's looking good and she doesn't shy away from hitting you with a look that is drop dead gorgeous. Pau... just greater and greater. Loved her drumming on this song and sweet background vocals along with Ale. Beautiful melodies made out of a classic rocker.
"When they release softer music" as if they hadn't already done a bunch of ballads, basically the songs Paulina sings aren't hard rock forget metal, survive is a pop rock song with a very experimental outro, I'm a hard-core heavy Rock, metal fan, I shouldn't like survive, and I don't most of it, but I love that outro so much that I go back to it specially in their live performances all the time, so they clearly weren't a labeled genre based band almost from the very beginning, my hope as a fan is they do a bunch of styles based on Rock music like they've done all along, more pop rock songs like survive, more rock ballads, heavier ones too, that's me as a fan, we all can have different expectations, at the end of the day it's for them to decide, they used to say they weren't gonna do many songs in Spanish because they don't feel comfortable writing in Spanish, now due to the great response Martirio is getting they're changing their views on that, so who knows......just hopefully they make the right decisions along with their team based on what they love doing and what works out for them.....Saludos 🤘

I think that The Warning did a masterful job of arranging this and that Alessia blended with them well. Not calling you out or anything, just saying I really like this start to finish. After I listened to it a couple of times, I realized that the song and the video tell a story within a story. Alessia is the innocent voice and Dani is the sinister voice. The innocent succumbs to the more sinister voice. They both tell the same story with the same lyrics, but with different vocal styles. In the visuals, the innocent is trapped in the shadows and eventually succumbs to the sinister one played by Pau. The combination of the visuals and vocals work together to make a masterful story in 4 minutes.
Heyy ... don't just dismiss Alessia's contribution here. First she's a grammy winning singer, second it's thanks to her this all came to be. Metallica originally reached out to just to her and her management decided to include The Warning. And imo her voice suits this new version of the song very well.

This version of that song doesn’t even exist if not for that chick who by the way won the 2018 Grammy for best new artist and has over a billion views on RU-vid and billions of streams on Spotify and other platforms. Just to set the record straight I’m a patron of the Warning on their Patreon and like to give credit where credit is due. Metallica approached 50+ artists from diverse genres to cover songs for the 30th anniversary of the black album with the proceeds going to charity. Alessia Cara was initially contacted and since her and the Warning have the same international management group (21st Entertainment group) they thought it would be good idea to get them involved. Metallica wanted the artists to put their own spin on those songs and re-envision them. Renowned producer and mixing engineer Matt Squire flew down to Monterrey Mexico and worked with the girls and Alessia remotely from Canada with the Warning doing most of the heavy lifting. I for one like Alessia vocals and more importantly the Warning who had a lot to do with this production would agree. And major Kudos to Alessia Cara for sharing the spotlight with them.

Thank you. Not many have the guts to express their minds about Alessia Cara; I didn't like her either at first, and it took about 100 listenings to begin to appreciate her contribution. So many defend Alessia's contributions as crucial, while I think she did mostly backup vocals (except in the beginning and her refrain throughout the song). To me, the test is: Can Alessia Cara tour this song without The Warning? Because I think it's obvious that The Warning can tour this song without Alessia.
I love this re-imagined and re-arranged version that they did. They took Metallica's wishes to heart and ran with it and did a fantastic job all around. “We said, ‘Pick a song. Alessia is a pop chick, but you need to give Alessia some credit. Metallica choose Alessia to do a cover and Alessia asked the Warning to do it with her. Theoretically this is Alessia’s cover, but clearly there is no massive ego there.

I think they all worked well together, Alessia added that change that bridged into the warning very nice. I think without her it would have been very different and not as good. Between the two groups they bring in both sets of fans. More importantly The Warning showed they could work with others and share. Great reaction though, its always good to hear an honest reaction not just pandering to the crowd.

My thoughts on Alessia’s contribution: it was fantastic and brought a really cool new dimension to The Warning, the song and this re-imagination of it. Her voice was a perfect acoustic complement and textual counterpoint to Dany’s. Her breathy tones really suited her role as the shadowy figure lurking in the dark and calling to the child. And her harmonies with the three Warning girls were spectacular. There is no such thing as a bad genre of music and I love love love these crossover collaborations. Alessia is a reputed vocalist and established recording artist in the singer-songwriter/pop domain for good reason. She invited The Warning to join her for this project and then took a back seat and let the three sisters shine. Otherwise I loved your reaction and you and your mom and your cat (you have one, right?) and your mom’s dog. Look forward to the next one! 😊
I agree with with everything you said. I have watched several interviews with Alessia. She seems as humble and kind-hearted as the ladies from The Warning, and she had nothing but wonderful things to say about the band and her experience working with them. She's also quite humorous. As you said, Alessia is the big name artist and was asked to participate by Metallica, but she stepped back and let The Warning have the limelight, demonstrating her humility. She seems to have a lot of the same traits that fans love about the ladies of The Warning.

Alessia Cara's record management are associated with The Warning record company management and suggested a collaboration. They all thought it was a good idea. Metallica also requested that they didn't want a cover song. They didn't care what you did. Alessia Cara and The Warning did just that.
You are right with Dany´s voice, the last year she are taking singing lessons and her voice improves and it shows. Funny thing, Alessia was the original guest from Metallica Blacklist Album, she is a pop singer and songwriter from Canada and have the same agent The Warning have in USA, he sugest invite the girls and then asked to Metallica and they agree it´s a good idea. They only have one week to make the song back in March and the video they do it in a day about a month ago in Monterrey, México.
Love the gothic horror lullaby of this reimagining. Two recent live in studio recordings of Choke and Evolve pull back some of the production and let Dany's voice shine. You can so clearly hear the richness of her tone, but especially her power. 🔥

The thing is that who was invited to participate in the Black Album was Alessia, not The Warning. Then, she recommended the Warning band to add rock flavor, Metallica agreed with that and here we are. The Warning girls as kind and educated as they are, mixes pop parts with rock parts, to represent both types of music, so, thanks to Alessia to involve The Warning in this project.

The Warning are great creative musicians who do not pay attention to the arbitrary boundaries of genre. Those whose musical tastes are limited to a subgenre are not always going to like their stuff. But as for me, I love the diversity, imagination, and constant surprises in their music, and I felt the collaboration with Alessia Cara was genius. But thank goodness not everyone likes the same music. Would make for a boring world.
For me if it had been just The Warning or just Alissia it would have been really, really good...but together...It's freaking amazing. It would not have been the awesome cover it is without either of them. It was actually Alissia that got asked by Metallica to be part of the album but both Alissia and The Warning have some of the same production people and so the combination was suggested and thank goodness they did. Alissia and The Warning have done my favorite cover of this song...PERIOD! The shadow on the wall of Alissia and doing the video in Black and White is genius for the video production. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I believe for most of us...this combination...it doesn't get much better and crossing genres here just made music cover history and I believe they accomplished the instructions given by Metallica on picking a song from the Black Album and then making it in the style of the Artist and not in the style of Metallica. The thing I find interesting about this cover is that it's basically a deconstructed version of the song; they effectively stripped out the iconic riff from the entire song and went with the sub-melodies throughout until the very end where they gave you what you were missing in the first 90% of the song. Also the build in repeating the chorus from 'poppy' to 'metal' was pretty excellent imho
It's a Miracle this song was even recorded because Metallica only gave them one week to record the song, Alessia Cara Lives in Canada and The Warning in Mexico and they Couldn't get together because of Covid. They would talk with each other through Zoom.

You are correct, Dany is one of the best front women in rock right now and the Warning kick ass…….this is the best cover on Blacklist and there were some other great covers but they completely reinvented this song and made it new again while paying homage to the original! It was Alessia Cara who brought in the Warning on this track they did it in a week and it does grow on you its a great video. You are right about Dannys' voice she has taken vocal coaching lessons she always had a good voice now she knows how to harness it. The really good thing about this like it or not is that it has got the Warning noticed by a far bigger audience, the song is on the billboard rock chart, it debuted at, I think, #13, and it is played on all Fox sports live games. I don't think you have reacted to the Warning Evolve if not you should do it with Charlotte.
the performance I love when they were younger was the 3 songs they performed in 2017 at Ted Talks especially the song Survive. from the new EP I'd suggest the 1st 4 songs I heard from the EP Choke, Evolve, The Disciple, and Animosity
I like metallica's original, the warning's copy cover and alessia cara and the warning's rework adaptation. Today, i prefer the fresh exercise in artistic liberty, soft pop crossing over into hard rock/metal genre rendition. Alessia has a fine voice, and The Warning continue to wow pass limits.
Yup. I felt the same way at the beginning too. I thought, "The Metallica purists are really not going to like this." And the fact that they took out the long intro and guitar solo bothered me. But now I love everything about it.

You stated in your reaction to The Warning's cover of Enter Sandman from seven years ago that you are very protective of rock, so I knew you would not approve of Alessia Cara's involvement. That's fine. Just to clarify, Alessia was not a guest singer. Notice Alessia's name is first on the title of the official music video, while you didn't bother to acknowledge her participation in the title of your reaction video. She was the one invited by Metallica to participate in the Blacklist Album. She invited The Warning to collaborate with her, so her participation was essential. Although Alessia is a very big name in the pop music world, she appears to be letting the ladies of The Warning have the glory for the collaboration. She has not posted the video on her RU-vid channel and has not, to my knowledge, promoted her participation in the Blacklist Album. So you can like Alessia's singing or not, but it seems The Warning have benefitted greatly from their collaboration with "that pop chick".
well enter sandman was originally was meant to be an lullaby so they decided that they were go that the song singing and the music was kind of dreaming and when paulina sang the prayer part it was kindof spooky because the sandman is spooky metallica like that versions so much they put it number 1 out of 70 on the album ahead of people like chris stapleton and miley cyrus singing nothing else matters please let me know what you think
Without Alesia and her voice the song wouldn't work like this. From pop to metal, from soft to hard . I think this is the most intelligent version of the song that was played, incl the original And all Alessia is a 25 year old young woman and no chick(en)
Interesting. I actually agree 100%. The pop singy-sound at the beginning just seemed gimmicky and unnecessary. That could have had Alejandra sing that part, just IMO. And they are/have definitely worked hard, come into their own and seem to fully deserve it. Thanks, BTW, for actually listening to the song and paying attention to how it flows without stopping every 10 seconds or talking over it. Probably the only reaction I didn't have to tell the screen to stfu 20 times.
This is the best Sandman cover I've ever heard. The Warning honestly just may be the best up and coming rock band anywhere, and this is so appropriate for them as an Enter the Sandman cover is what got them noticed when they were kids. There's a lot of this vs that about who the main artist is on this cover and whose cover it really is and the truth is that it is a damned fine collaboration that would have been less without any of them. Somehow the story has been floating around that Alessia was invited by Metallica, which isn't the case. In an interview Alessia states she was invited by The Warning ( at the 8 minute mark on ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-egyaAygOZF4.html ) I keep playing it over and over. I may just like it better then Metallica's original (sacrilege, I know).
Respect for standing your ground. "Fan" is short for fanatic, and some of them will reem you a new one for expressing your opinion. SMH! I agree that Alessia adds nothing (vocally/musically) to The Warning's self-contained bad assery! Given that this was Metallica's project, and both were asked to do this collab and were paired up together, well, what can we do about that? It's awesome for what it is. The girls had fun working with Alessia, so it's their journey and we're just lucky enough to come along for the ride.

I watched you react to Lara Fabian singing Adagio in her 2000 concert and you mentioned you'd like to hear her with just a piano. Lara has been singing professionally since a teen ~ 1988, she's 51 now and still doing sold out concerts. Here's 3 suggestions: 1). Metallica told the Artist to cover their songs any way they wanted to and make it their own. And the Warning did that VERY well! P.S.- This cover got a UNANIMOUS 2 Thumbs from Metallica. Canadian singer and songwriter Alessia Cara has won 17 awards out of 73 nominations including a Grammy, a Juno, Fan Favorite at the MTV Awards, Best New Artist & Best Album in 2018. She's also signed with the same Promotion & Management Group as the Warning and since Alessia is in the POP arena ... they thought it would be an "interesting" mix
