Hey Glyn, great video, haven't thought of hair like this before. Very useful. Just a point I noticed when you are using the Eye Droppers in levels, they aren't like the "Color Selection Tool" where each click adds more data to the selection. With the Levels and Curves Eye Dropper they are used to set the Max or Min points for Black or White. This is why after you selected around image with the eye dropper at 10:36 the white looked grey again on the right hand side even though you had selected it earlier. Also holding ALT while using those droppers will allow you to see a preview of the Max White or Min Black. Hope that helps. Cheers.

Good techniques 👍 I find fringing of trees in sky Replacement has a similar problem any tips for that?
@glyndewis
@glyndewis 2 года назад
Absolutely. For trees you could either... 1) Apply an inner glow around the tree that is the same colour as the vast majority. Then right click on the Inner Glow effect in the layers panel and click on Create Layer. This then creates a layer out of the Inner Glow Effect. You can then add a Black Layer Mask to this to hide it and then use a white brush to brush the effect (reveal it) in the areas where the fringing is visible. 2) You could do the second technique where you add a layer above and a clipping mask. Then use the Clone Stamp Tool to sample and clone over areas of fringing. Whichever method it will be a little time consuming but worth it. You could 'maybe' use Filter > Other > Minimum but the problem here is that even a small amount could remove thin branches. Hope this helps

@@glyndewis That's genuinely good to hear Glyn. I hoped for rougher seas when I was down there at Hartland, but it wasn't to be. Have you checked out the videos from Nick Page and Gavin Hardcastle from a couple of years back when they were at the Out of Oregon conference, taking time out at the coast? Some truly stunning wave images. If you ever fancy some photographic company for a trip to the Oregon coast photographing sea stacks and crashing waves let me know (LOL). Keep safe and well. S
@johnsmith1474
@johnsmith1474 2 года назад
This is good practice for the kids, but it's not how to accomplish this, it can be done without any cloning from an outside image. Something completely overlooked here is that you first evaluate the intended use of an image before you take time editing. If the use is phone sized, this is fine. For a high end magazine cover, no way. What I am impressed with is that the quality of the studio setup exceeds the quality of the technique of the edit.
@glyndewis
@glyndewis 2 года назад
I agree on the evaluation side of things John but not on the 'it can be done without cloning'. Sure there are images that you wouldn't have to use cloning for as there are images you wouldn't have to do a channel pull on. I've done a lot of commercial work using all manner of techniques and it all depends on the image and what tools and techniques work for it. I have used Cloning before now for a Radio Times front cover and it looked great and the client was very happy. Intended use of image yes and also what technique works on that specific image to get the result you're after. In 'some' cases...cloning works great just like other techniques 'in some cases' work great. Having a number of different techniques you can call upon is what makes editing life easier 👍

John...My accent and language is what it is I'm afraid. What would you like / suggest? Bearing in mind, I wouldn''t be able to provide captions for every language that tunes into RU-vid.
