Going through all your hand assignments, I noticed most of them have one main issue. They lack structure. Constructing the hand from basic forms and following the primary - secondary - tertiary hierarchy resolves many other issues. It helps to draw the hand accurately from imagination, attach the fingers correctly to the palm, keep things in perspective, and even helps to shade. I’ll also show you how a focus on structure doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice gesture.
If these problems are still affecting you, I recommend checking out my previous lessons on drawing the hand below.

I've been drawing more than 25 years and I started watching your vids thinking I wouldn't learn anything new. After 2 videos I've learned more than I have in 5 years (maybe longer). I always knew I skimmed over basics once I found a trick to hide my weak areas but no one ever put it so simply and compelling as you have. For the first time maybe ever I'm going to be excited to draw basic shapes and not use my "tricks" of shading to fool the viewer, because deep down I've always known I was cheating them and myself. You're a gifted instructor! This weekend I'm going to start drawing again for the first time in maybe 18 - 20 months, and I'm going to buy from you're curriculum! Thank you!

When it comes to hands, references are such lifesavers honestly. Even if I don't want to bother finding one I at least do the pose with one of my own hands a couple of times to get the general idea of how it should look. A mirror is a good tool for that too

Dude! You are so amazing! I love that through the video you keep teaching basically universal principles of good art construction. Almost using hands as just an example of how to apply them. Very helpful in many ways. Also I love your pinky gesture at 10:11, totaly reminds me of the Greek ideal and a pinky they would make. At 14:09 what you say about finding the corner is so great, it made me realize how important it is to communicate where the corners and ends are. I love you Proko, congratulations on your super cute son, take care!

Learning basic anatomy is invaluable with this kind of stuff. Also, I think what some people overlook (which you kind of eluded to) is that hands emote, so knowing the action driving the hand shape really gives it meaning and life. I’ve seen a lot of technically good and accurate art that only transmits inanimate information like “person wearing stuff and standing in a place while holding a thing” but fails to transmit purpose, mood, or action, and that just results in stiff and lifeless humanoids.

@@ErosBhog I'm happy to hear that. I wanted to advie you that any sort of improvement, of any skill, comes from the capacity to be critical about procedures, were they results positive or negative, or anything in-between. E.g: If you want to get better at art, you have to improve your capacity to recognize mistakes and working on them. Kinda feel that you know this by know hahah. Best of all.

You have to keep in mind that there are 2 kinds of critique: constructive and destructive. Constructive helps make it better, destructive destroys the motivation, the guy is just trying to help make it better than it already is, but you can take it to your drawings and make it improve.

Proko, I’m not sure if you went to school for this knowledge you have or if it’s purely experienced, but either way, I agree 100%.
