The 2012 Olympics was the best ever. The opening ceremony actually made me cry. Makes me sad to have gone from such a great moment of national unity to where we are now with the constant attacks on our character and history.
I’ve met the queen whilst in the army and she maybe getting old but she has a keen eye for detail and nothing gets past her at all. She can read you like a book too.
Yeah I was based at RAF Marham where she is the Royal CO and I've been Honorary Guard for her 3 times. She is VERY astute, she can spot a piece of fluff on your dress uniform from 40 paces.
Possibly the best opening ceremony ever. Apparently, when the request came in to do this, Queenie asked William and Harry and their response was that she MUST do it!
It would have been great if when Daniel Craig had entered the Queen's office she'd been stroking a corgi on her lap and greeted Bond with "I've been expecting you Mr Bond".
Funnily enough, the original version (in "Diamonds Are Forever" I think) really is "Good evening Mr Bond" without "I've been expecting you". I guess the corgi on the lap would have been considered disrespectful by the _Daily Telegraph_

I was watching this live in Hyde Park and no one knew the real Queen was involved... HUGE cheer when we all realised 👍🇬🇧 London 2012, best 6 weeks of my life 😃
The Queen volunteered to be a Bond girl. She has a great sense of humour. When Prince William and Harry saw their Grandmother supposedly jumping out of the helicopter. They could be seen shouting “Go granny go”
Great reaction. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST OLYMPIC OPENING SEQUENCES EVER - As you say, quite something for Danny Boyle, who directed the opening and closing ceremonies, to get the Queen to be involved in something like that. I can remember back to the time leading up to it and the press and general opinion was that we wouldn't do a very good job. Boy were they wrong.
The opening ceremony was definitely a 'game of two halves'. The bit about the NHS was a bit bizarre, but the industrial revolution bit was jaw dropping. I was lucky enough to see the final dress rehearsal a couple of days before real thing. Everybody had cameras but few were taking pictures because everyone was so dumbfounded they couldn't believe what they were seeing.
I have met the Queen at my society in London. Hand shakes with her and the Duke, along with a lengthy chat. Both very nice people, and not at all posh. The Queen is the best of Britain, and to be treasured.
The Queen is known for her sense of humour, so when this was done, she deliberately made him wait, that cough he did to get her attention was not rehearsed.
Sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any help you can offer me!
They had an actor lined up to play the Queen and everyone thought it would be an actor, then she turned around - it was really her! She insisted on doing it herself.
real thing that happend a american tourists were walking in the wood close to a royal residence and they spotted a lady walking with a gentleman behind her..they asked the lady if she had ever met the queen ..the lady said NO but he has... pointing to the royal bodyguard..lol
The Queen used to, and maybe still does, host informal dinners were people from different spheres are invited, so you could be there with a sports person, scientist, entertainer, somebody from business, charity worker and religious leader. Real honour fun and interesting,
She does, though not at the moment for obvious reasons. Apparently, one of her favourite informal dinners is the one she had with Yuri Gagarin when he came to the UK after his historic mission. It was just her, Gagarin and Philip along with a few aides and so on...
Most Brits were gobsmacked when she turned round as we were expecting an actress. When the idea was posed to the Queen she insisted on doing it; she even had the original helicopter replaced as she thought it wasnt the type she would use.
The music is Handel and that particular piece is called Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. You should try and watch the first part of the opening ceremony too.
'One-take Liz' was the Queen's nickname whenever she recorded her Christmas message, as it only took one take to record each message, and the same thing with this bit, as director Danny Boyle said that she did the sequence in one take as well!
The whole of the Olympic Ceremony was really good (including David Beckham arriving by boat with the Olympic torch). The whole games was a wonderful success and really boosted the spirits of everyone in Britain. It was almost the anti-Corona virus effect. Super Saturday was the best day for Brits with three Gold medals including one for the Olympic's poster-girl Jessica Ennis; never to be forgotten.
Except David Beckham was not helming the speedboat. He was just standing there giving the appearance that he was in command, but there was a man crouching by his knees and he was controlling the boat. The reason being that David Beckham was not qualified to drive the boat.
Very good publicity for our Great Country great shots of inside Buckingham Place and see things inside that I and many other people will never see unless your James Bond.
The commentary in the background was the ex-BBC commentator Barry Davies, this is the OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services) version of the coverage, from the IOC, rather than the BBC commentary.
As someone who was there on the night, the whole ceremony was electric. Nine years down the line, I can't comprehend what has happened to this country and its values.
Its called Boris Johnston and right wing populism. He and his kind were furious at the opening ceremony and its depiction of the wonderful NHS. They would close that down in a heartbeat if they weren't scared of losing all the working class vote that they mugged into voting for them. Level up! What happened to that? lol.
This was the best kept secret ever. Danny Boyle and a couple of others came up with this idea and were certain the queen would dismiss the idea. She has a wicked sence of humour and thought it would be a hoot. 2 copies of her dress had to be made. The 2nd in a much bigger size to fit the stuntman (yes man) who actually did the jump. The only person in the royal family who knew about this was the Duke. Everyone else was kepyt in the dark and were as gobsmacked as the rest of us. The opening ceremony was long 4 hours but it was amazing. And you are right was a packed show of everything british with a big shout out the the NHS along with Great Ormond St hospital and childrens literature.
Apparently William and Harry didn’t know about this and when they saw the footage being played on the screen in the stadium, the two boys were shouting “Go Granny!!!!”
Ok I'll do it then. It's a line from the British National anthem: Send her victorious/happy and glorious/long to reign over us/God save the Queen. I'll get my coat...
@@ricchardo I do, and am not American. Nor am I French, but I know The Marseillaise as well. Most national anthems are war cries really, but ours venerate the monarch. God Save The Queen 👑🇬🇧!
Here’s the link. It’s long but please find the time to watch the first 16 minutes (not as a reaction😂) if you really want to understand Britain. This was Danny Boyle’s Olympic Games 2012 opening, and nobody knew what to expect. But not this! It was amazing.... pure theatre, capturing our history from pastoral though the industrial revolution. You still wonder how they did it. At minute 16 007 calls for the Queen, which is what you’ve already seen. And I can guarantee, you win’t have seen anything like this before. The percussionist who starts the beat is Evelyn Glennie, who is deaf, but plays through the vibrations in her feet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H2VPSjHnc2E.html
That's a highlights video that went wrong (terrible, terrible sound). The full version, with mostly better sound, is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4As0e4de-rI.html (and even the athletes' parade had a great soundtrack)
Viewing sorted later on today... the 2012 Olympics DVD - watch and shed tears of joyous pride at what “we” achieved that glorious Summer! No country will ever better that majestic and wonderful Opening Ceremony - well, they won’t have a Queen leaping out of a helicopter with James Bond 007 for a kick off! 😄😄👍🏻😎
The Postmodern Family have made 2020 so much better, Thank you Lilian and Felipe for doing these amazing videos and making us laugh and smile during Lockdown
So this was being shown on a big screen at the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony and the person doing the voiceover is at the venue. This footage is supposed to be in real time (of course it was really a prerecording), and then it segues into the Queen's actual appearance at the stadium.
That was the first piece. While they were walking to the helicopter the music was a different Handel piece: _La Réjouissance_ from "Music for the Royal Fireworks".
We got our first television on Coronation day morning and the street party the next day. It's hard to believe that this is the same person crowned that day. People must have felt the same at the end of Victoria's reign.
Oh, it was more than ‘music and dancing’. They showed the whole change from a pastoral country through the industrial revolution in the most amazing way... Watch the opening ceremony video...
It was the real Queen and this was played at the 2012 Olympics in London at the opening ceremony, that's why you hear the crowds reaction! None of the Royal family knew about it until it was broadcast that evening!
I can still remember being forced to work the night shift at my job at the local cinema and missing this. Got in at 3am, stayed up until nearly 7 watching the highlights. Then went back in for another shift at 12.30pm. I have no regrets about staying up watching it... but wished I'd had the guts to call in sick to watch it as it actually happened. Doubt I'll get to see GB host another olympics in my lifetime sadly!
Ditto for Jordan Peterson. I came across him a few Months ago and he's a wonderful man, never heard anyone make so much sense before. Hope he fully recovers soon, the world needs people like him.
It is why a constitutional monarchy works. The Queen is faultless and dependable, and represents the best of the British Commonwealth. Long may She reign.
Her Majesty was asked if she would like to do it, she consulted Prince Philip who said yes, but they told no-one else in the family etc! Her dresser and seamstresses knew because they made the 2 dresses, one for Her Majesty and one for her stuntman who did the jump - his included matching bloomers in case the skirt blew up! Her Majesty has a wicked sense of humour!
It's two years later so you probably know this already, but the noise in the background was because it was being shown live on screens in the stadium and in Hyde Park. Very sad is the fact that the stuntman who dressed as the queen for the jump was jailed a month or so ago for assaulting his girlfriend.
It was one the most amazing and British show its amazing u should whatch the hole thing it is a bit long but was very good. And it was such a different time compared to know, I realy want thows days back fingers crossed for 2021
Fun fact guys. The Queen actually ordered all of her staff not to mention anything about the James Bond thing to any of her family. It was a complete surprise to them too - especially Prince Charles who you see saying something to his mother as she walks by.
Check out the last few seconds of the video - the suited guy in the top/right corner is watching the tv output and noticed his head had moved out of shot - hence why he clearly bends his knees to get back in the frame. He got a lot of stick for that afterwards.
The Queen and members of the members of the immediate Royal Family have great senses of humour and love to make jobs and have fun. Like when the king of Saudi Arabia went to visit the Queen and she invited him for a tour of the estate. The King got into the queen’s Land Rover expecting a chauffeur She took the driver’s seat and raced around the road on her land refusing to slow down, while he asked his interpreter to ask her to slow down and he careful. She didn’t. The whole time she told him that she didn’t have a license or passport. She doesn’t need either. She was making a point since at the time, women were not allowed to drive in his country.
The London Olympics opening ceremony showed the world how to put on a show the Queen showed the World the true meaning of being Majestic and Daniel, to my mind is James Bond
They asked for permission to film in Buckingham Palace and the Corgis with an actress playing The Queen. The Queen asked if it would be better if they used the real Queen instead. Of course they said "yes please ma'am".
The first piece of music is not Happy & Glorious, that's a line from the British National Anthem, it's The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel. Great vid - thanks for uploading.
Danny Boyle (the film maker who was creative director for the opening ceremony and would go on to not direct a Bond film) said the biggest problem was working up the nerve to ask the Queen if she would do this. I don't believe that's actually her doing the parachute jump though- there's no way she could have got to the box so quickly.
London 2012, the best Olympics ever, and the best Opening Ceremony ever. I was back in England on holiday, and as soon as the Opening ceremony finished my brother and I drove down to Surrey (Box Hill) to watch the cycling road race the next day. Brilliant.
Barry, we also watched the opening ceremony on the TV, then a couple of days later, walked over the common towards Mickleham to watch the road race along with millions. Brilliant. A
