Annyeonghaseyo Hailey! I have recently started to learn korean and already know hangul, and i just watched your videos on Korean names, and that got me thinking - hm, what should be my name? Previously i used google translate for my name (evelyn) and it says that its 에블린 (eubellin)! I just wanted to ask, if it has any meaning to it/in it? I would really appreciate your answer! Have a good day :)! (also your channel is a big help on my journey with learning Korean!) oh and my korean name - im questioning between (from girls name video) SuMin (수민) and SeoJin (서진)!
이찬욱 (Lee chanwook) this name expose my true personality. Like I'm a palm fruit sour&sweet. The fruit fell in a big clear sea and it is the one unique in the whole sea.❤
@koreanfriendhailey Hello Hailey!! Through a little research and dedication in getting this right. I have chosen the name Eun. It fits with my kindness, and attention to detail. Thank you for helping me find my Korean name. 💕
Hi Hailey, I was reviewing this video and AGAIN , I keep on asking me why you talk of and write Chinese characters , why is it needed here ? (should we learn those tricky ones as well ????). Congrats again for your nice work and dedication to korean language learners :)
Of course, you don't need to learn the Chinese characters. Many of the characters she mentioned in the video are only for names even in Chinese. For example, the character 煜. I can never make a sentence out of the character 煜. It is a dead word that was used thousand years ago. Now such characters are just for names.
Sentences having the character 煜 are all old Chinese. For example 日以煜乎晝,月以煜乎夜(The sun lights up the day, the moon lights up the night). 煜 means bright light here.
Another example is the English name, Peter. Its original meaning was rock or stone but we rarely use the word "Peter" in a sentence to refer to rock. Just the same idea.
Hanja are Chinese characters used in Korean for Chinese loan words. They were regularly used until 50 years ago and are still part of education. They are the Korean equivalent of Kanji in Japanese but not used much anymore. But they are used extensively in name creation.
Unnie, please tell me how you learned English?" Maybe if i follow your way so i can learn Korean easily! Beacuse i have watched every BTS video, plenty of K-dramas,and tons of award shows but i still know Annyeonghaseo,Gamsahabnida and jinjja😭😭😭
hahaha You watched many BTS videos, and K-dramas and shows! :) That is so nice for learning new language :) And it is so cute that you knew 안녕하세요, 감사합니다, 진짜 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ The first thing you have to know is Korean alphabet which is Hangul! I uploaded hanguel videos one by one! I recommend you to watch those video first! :)😊 And I will let you know the way one by one later too!
You have opened a can of worms with the name lessons, I am Scottish but live in London, in Scotland I am called Billy but in London I am called Bill my full name is William (other names from my name Liam, Wills Willie,) the name William means 'Great Protector' or 'Grand Defender' my family name is McKee, Mc is short for Mac and means 'son of' (son of a family or clan) and Kee is an old word that means fire so my name can be described as Great Defender Son of fire
I took some time off and decided that this is more like me. This is my korean name 겅태욱 btw sorry if i misspelt some words im still learning how to type in korean but my name is suposed to be Jung-tae-wook
i wanted to make one and i am called “william”, but according to this video, my korean name would be “젠센” (last name) “찬태” (korean name). so “젠센찬태” (meaning: clean, pure, sunny, bright, fine, fair, strong, kind)
Can someone please help me with this ! I have 2 last names but I don't have a Korean last name so can someone tell me if I need to put my real last names are use a Korean one?
