For example, growing as a filipino girl in Italy, I always tought I had more aunties and uncles than I actually have bc i called the ones that were around my mum's age uncle and aunt (tito and tita) so I tought we were really related cus I called them like this and they were filipinos like me

I'm trying to figure out what to call a friend of mine in Korean and I'm sooo confused. I'm 37 and she is 51. I know typically in Korea that big of an age gap is a HUGE no go when it comes to friends. But here in the U.S. we are more laid back. Is it weird to call her Unnie with such a huge age gap? Is a more formal way of calling her Sabboniem (I think that's how you spell it romanized) I hear them say it to older women in the business world on Kdramas

I am a 65 year old grandfather and when I was stationed in Korea in 1977, 아줌마 was not considered rude, every woman carrying a baby around was referred to as 아줌마. In fact if we called her 아가씨, she would probably be offended. Why would she not?
