Hi there, yes it can be a bit tricky for some as it's not always weight related! Can be associated with tonsils, adenoids or just the general anatomical makeup of your upper airway. Because of this you might actually have a few more options when it comes to therapy and it might be worth speaking with an ENT specialist or even your dentist. Check out a company called SOMNOMED. Cheers Nick

I am a paraegic though and d one contraverdy but my respiratory as oecialist said oeoe with spinal cord injury have a higher rt isk. I also have central sleep apnoeas though.... Hi Mark, Glad it was helpful for you. I've had a few people email me highly recommending the strips. I'm going to do a video shortly on ways to assist mouth leak etc and i'm going to talk about the strips. Keep going with the pillow mask for now and try a chin strap or the strips if you're mouth keeps opening of a night. If you're still struggling there's certainly no harm in then trying a full mask or a full hybrid. Cheers brother. Nick

Thanks for the info. Can I ask does the temperature in the bedroom have an effect on AHI? I started using a CPAP airsense 10 machine a couple of months ago and my AHI score was below 1. Lately with warmer weather and changed to airsense 11 and the AHI number has gone to 14.18 using a humidity level of 4 and a constant pressure of 7. I think the pressure before was variable between 4 & 7. thanks

Question. What should i set the pressure at for my CPAP? Whats a good midrange if i dont know?
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 года назад
Hi there, great question! So if i was going to use my CPAP to determine what pressure i needed i would probably start at 10, then each day i would check my data and have a look at my AHI level on the machine. If my AHI was less than 5 then i would drop the pressure by 1 level to 9 the next night and repeat the process. As long as the AHI is less than 5 i can continue to drop the pressure level down as an AHI of less than 5 shows me that my Apnea is well controlled and within a healthy range :-). Once the AHI starts to go above 5 you know you have dropped the pressure too low . Hope this helps Nick

Hi Phyllis, glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for your membership also. Keeping your mask on is sometimes very tricky. When i was working in the hospital i use a little 3M nexcare tape over the side straps which made it harder for patients to remove their masks. The machines really should come with an alarm that goes off if you remove the mask prior to turning off the machine. Best of luck

Sorry for the dumb question. Can you use a heated tube without humidity? I’m Queensland and humidity isn’t needed in summer. So do I use a normal hose or turn heating off?
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 года назад
Hi Melissa, there's certainly no need to be sorry. I think it's very valid question :-). The answer is you can however you would probably only need it heated if the air was cold and was bothering you. If air is reasonably warm already and you have enough humidification in the atmosphere then i would probably turn both the heated tube and the humidifier off. If you have a machine in which the humidifier can be removed i would just remove it all together and run the tube directly from the pump section. If you just leave the humidifier chamber connected but with no water in it then it can sometimes make the machines run noisier as the air circulates in the empty water chamber. Have a great day and hope all is well in Queensland you lucky thing!

@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 года назад
Hi Erik, most CPAP machines can only go as high as 20 in the pressure range and not many people are at the max level. It's possible that 21 is your AHI number which is how many times you stop breathing per hour. All the best with your CPAP therapy. Nick

Hi, I'd like to share with you my short (just over a month) experience, hopefully something could be helpful for you. My AHI was, to my greatest surprise 70, so I went immediately on a trial. Even though it was a roller coaster, I am about 7-8 AHI and keep reducing slowly. There are two points: 1. Aggravating your free nasal breathing circumstances. I have a fragile throat and don't breathe through the moth unless my nose is severely congested. With the APAP machine, I realised that lately I have an allergic rhinitis and after it was addressed, the nasal masks work miracles. 2. Trying masks from different brands, modifications and sizes. I wasn't happy with the cradle mask from ResMed n30i which I tried first. Somehow the two holes designed to facilitate the breathing weren't at the right place for my nose anatomy - I suffered from lack of air and unpleasant leaks which brought eye irritation and even eye flickering. I asked to try the Philips version - Dreamwear and was amazed how both the cradle (with just one larger hole) and the nasal gel pillow fit - no leaks, well fitted and comfortable frame and head gear. The AirFit N20 which I also tried, is a great match. Strangely enough, I use size Small from the Dreamwear Nasal and Nasal pillow and Medium for AIrFit N20! It is my experience that so far I feel better switching masks every other night, if I use the same one over a few nights they become less comfortable. Good luck! We have no choice, we must use the machines.

@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 года назад
Hi there, the pillow mask should just be sealing at the base of the nostrils but some part of the pillow will sit just inside the nostril. The idea is to get it to seal the pressure inside the nose so as there's not much air leaking out of the nose. Cheers. Nick

Question. If my nitelog app shows yellow bars for mild sleep apnea does that mean that mild apnea happened and the CPAP did not prevent it? Hi Robert, yes you can mate but certainly makes it harder to get a good mask seal so you would be advised to try the nasal pillow variety and trim up the hair a little just under your nose. @CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 года назад
Hi Bev, I would personally start with the nasal pillow mask and try and get use to using it. The reason is that they are smaller and easier to take on and off and a few other reasons but it's just better in the long run if you can use to the nasal variety. If you try for a couple of weeks but you're really struggling breathing exclusively through your nose then there's certainly no harm in using the full face mask which will enable you to breathe through your nose OR mouth. Regarding the Max pressure, you don't really need to worry about this too much in the beginning but if you are finding the machine is increasing the pressure grately when you fall asleep and it keeps waking you up then you might consider lowering this Max pressure which will put a limit on how high the pressure can increase when you fall asleep. For the first week though just leave it where it is programmed for now. In the first 1-2 weeks it's really just about getting use to breathing with the positive airway pressure which will feel quite unnatural in the beginning. Just take your time and keep practicing :-)
