In today's Acrylic Nail tutorial I'm going to teach you how to do Coffin Shaped Rose Gold Acrylic Nails. First, we will have to remove the old color of acrylic using my electric file. I will show you how I mix the custom color of colored acrylic to get my rose gold color. I'll show you how to shape your nails into the coffin shape before we apply the acrylic to the nails. Will be doing a reverse French technique with the rose gold colored glitter acrylic on the tips of the nail.

Absolutely Beautiful!!! Old school nail tech watching your fabulous videos on new school tech tips and tricks! I've used drills, files, buffers, and oils. I've made those hot spots you speak of with the drill, and with a file in a vein attempt to get my time down on any service! With that being said I currently do elderly nails for free to practice on my gel polish and acrylic application. When they say to cap the nail free edge with gel polish, could they be referring to acrylic instead of natural nails? Do you use those applications together? If so, could you post a video of polish change and fill? Would you used a Acetone removal method or a file with EFiler method? Thanks in advance, Lily

Hello, you should not remove gel polish with acetone if they have acrylic on their nails. I always thought you had to capsulate your work with clear because filing on glitter will make it less shiny. Am I wrong or is what your using different?

+Keith Barrett You do not have to encapsulate. If your working with chunky glitter that isn't mixed properly in the acrylic you might need to add a little clear on top of that. But it is not that it makes it less shiny. Filing is the same. You always add a clear top coat or gel top coat at the end.

Omgosh Idk what's prettier...that set of nails or you! Thank you for showing how to mix a beautiful rose gold you're awesome. I am a avid hand filer...I do use an E-file but ONLY for filing product down never ever on natural plate. However, I see A LOT of techs taking a sanding band on low speed straight to their clients nail plate & even on the very lowest speed you have its still WAY TO MUCH! A gentle buffing is sufficient to ensure proper adhesion. I do have a question though...Is the acrylic powder you used to mix the rose gold a strength powder? I only recently got certified & there was a lot of things that were completely left out so, thank god for your videos girl!

An efile on the lowest speed still rotates at 53 times per second which is too much. You can file a hole in the nail plate with just the slightest bit of pressure. The acrylic powder I used to mix it is just regular powder. You should not over saturate with glitter or it will lose its strength.

Have you tried any of the bits specifically meant for cuticles? They are very fine and do not have anywhere near the grit of the handfiles you are using. I'm not criticizing, just questioning because I've seen many licensed pros using those bits to good effect with no hot spots, and the advantage to them as far as I can tell is that you can clean the pterygium off without worrying about hitting the surrounding live skin (something I struggle with).

Unfortunately, those bits were never "made" for cuticles. They are being marketed for that purpose by companies that sell them. There is no grit specified on a drill bit and all are more dangerous than a hand file due to the rotations per second. They list them as fine, medium and course. Any drill bit can leave a hot spot. There are nail techs across the internet filing off all the cuticle area including the lateral fold and into the eponychium. All of which are not necessary for acrylic adhesion and very damaging and dangerous. I watched a pro this morning who uploaded an acrylic removal video and when she took the acrylic off you could see all the pink areas on the nail bed from different fills, but she said there was no damage to the nail plate, but clearly, there was. Unfortunately, there is no way to gauge how much of the nail plate they are filing off until someone starts to bleed. I just had a client come home from Florida where she goes for the winter. I filmed the service and I will upload that video to show how much damage was done to her nail plate. She had a Pseudomonas and when I pulled the nail file across her nail plate one time she began to bleed. The tech had filed all her nail plate off down to her nail bed :(

In every thing I've ever read, your should use primer sparingly and wait for it to dry before applying acrylic. You do just the opposite. Are you using a different primer or have I been misinformed all this time?

+Jennifer Leonard There are different kinds of primer. Acid primer needs to be dry when you apply the acrylic.
